@@davidbrisendine2916 I’d say one of the defining tracks of the 80’s ... don’t forget Queen Radio Gaga, Kind of Magic ... the stunning Who Wants To Live Forever .... also the other tracks I posted above too ....
Always loved that outro solo... I sold a guitar to Roland, the guitarist/singer/cofounder of Tears For Fears... I had to thank him for playing that amazing solo. He responded with a thank you. He also said that he’d wished he could’ve had another take, but even though he didn’t love it, everyone else in the studio did love it... Just a little bit of background, for you... ‘Head over Heels’ is another great TFF song.
@@estimatedleighton6389 the primary TFF guitar tone is in fact a Strat. I know that seems obvious, because he’s playing one in the video, but he did confirm it during our conversation... When I was helping him shop, they we’re planning on going into the studio, and Roland was considering other tones, to change up their sound a little... He was looking at ES335 models. He actually preferred the ES339, instead. This was around 2014/15 time frame.
Roland is a vastly underrated guitarist. There is so much great guitar work on the Songs From the Big Chair album, and he never gets enough recognition for it. The solo on Shout for instance is one of my all-time favorite guitar solos....
Oh man, this brings me back to my childhood. I can remember the day I bought this cassette and two others (Madonna and Motley Crue). My Mum's old Chevy Blazer only had an 8-track player so I brought my boom box...and drove her nuts playing these songs over and over during our day of running errands. By the end of the day Ma was singing along with the volume cranked and the windows down. Damn...I miss her and all the great memories. Music always brings you back.
This song was in the ending of the movie "Real Genius". One of Val Kilmer's early roles. My favorite line from the song: "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision."
Yes indeed, the song is a masterpiece. A song with a strong message, which is still current, and unfortunately it will be like that forever. In live performances, during intro, Orzabal is always emotional, as if gathering the strength to sing it. In later interviews, he explained that the song describes his parents' bad and difficult relationship. There are so many such female stories. it is interesting that there are almost no reactions to this song. I wonder why. The song is a diamond that shines with emotion and message.
This is my “summer song” and probably my most favorite song. The minute I hear it I am instantly back in 1985.Such a different world then. So much more fun.
My favorite song of all time. The lyric: "I can't stand this indecision married with a lack of vision" always gets me. It exemplifies too much of our society, not being able to make decisions because we don't have enough vision (knowledge/wisdom basically). Tears for Fears was essentially telling us IN THE 80'S to go educate ourselves. Great reaction Jamel! Keep up the great work :)
In 1984-ish this album came out. I was a freshman or maybe a sophomore in high school. Everyone raced home after school and huddled around MTV to see the premiere of this and Shout videos
One of the most underrated bands ever. Just look at their greatest hits album,, some of the greatest hits of the 80s, shout, head over heels, everybody wants etc, paleshelter, mad world, sowing the seeds of love!
Are they actually underrated tho? I'm predominately a hard rock/metal fan and yet I consider tears for fears one of the greatest bands ever. Roland is true genius song writer
This song came on the radio of the bus that was taking me to the airport when I joined the Army. The lyrics “welcome to your life. There’s no turning back” have stuck with me ever since. Wonderful song!
I am a Boomer, but I think that the 80's were the best time for pop music. Lyrics that meant something (in a positive way), great orchestration and they have a hook that once it's in your head, is there to stay. I think the video has guys and gals doing just what they love in their small way. The ARE ruling the world. Stay safe.
Back when even pop songs had amazing guitar solos. This song, Michael Jackson's "Beat It" featuring Eddie Van Halen, Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", Lionel Richie's "Dancing on the Ceiling", and never forget Kenny Loggins' "Highway to the Danger Zone."
Great suggestion. Deborah, other than Terrance I only have seen one other person do it well - this young guy from England named Jolan. Yes, it is his real voice - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-42ASC5kMoYY.html
And apparently so underrated that none of you lot can spell his erstwhile first name. He dispensed with Terence 20-years ago: even on streaming services, the tracks from his first few records are credited to Sananda Maitreya.
Remember 1st time hearing/seeing this video. I was in the 1st grade in my kitchen doing homework learning how to read and this song came on MTV. Such an amazing sound. Fell instantly in love with the vibe. Pure optimism for the present and future. Man, I miss the 80's.
'Ghostdancing' from Live Aid '85, 'Sanctify Yourself' (official video), 'Waterfront' (official video), 'Speed Your Love To Me' (official video), and 'Up On The Catwalk' (official video) would be my choices. Give you a very good indication on why Simple Minds were a huge influence on U2.
Everybody Wants to Rule the World has always been one of my favorite songs. I was stationed in South Korea in 1986 at Osan AB and I remember going to the clubs and that song was playing. So many great memories.
Another marker for the time it was produced in are the 3 wheelers in the background. They were banned back in that era after a lot of injuries and even deaths were attributed to their design.
Funny thing is, during the filming for this music video, one of the riders was thrown off and knocked unconscious. "[Curt] Smith also mentioned that there was an accident while filming the "dirt bikes and four-wheel off-road vehicles" scene, with one children flying out of a vehicle and smashing his head, leaving him unconscious."
Fun fact: the chorus lyrics everybody wants to rule the world was inspired by The Clash song Charlie don't surf. Joe Strummer saw the one of the band members (I believe Roland) in a restaurant and told them Your welcome and you owe me a "Fiver".
@@LiveNinetyNine yeah, that sounds very familiar. I remember hearing the story a couple different times on interviews. Just couldn't remember exactly how it played out.
Saw them live back in '88 they were excellent. Saw a recent concert on YT still excellent. Their new album The Tipping Point is great. It deals with the loss of a spouse and issues involving dealing with ones past as we mature. This band deserves a lot more recognition. They wrote pop songs for the thinking person.
Totally agree with you. I grew up in the 80s and I connect with this track on a personal recollection/memory level. I would say this is my number 1 track from the 80s.
Seeing that you seem to be a big fan of the 80’s how about some Duran Duran - Rio, Hungry like the wolf, Ordinary World is a good start. Love your energy!!
I don't want 2 Rule the world but only seize the day and be grateful in it.. This is the day which the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Great 80s song brings me back for a moment..
@@frankpentangeli8104 If being grateful for every precious moment and with faith believing in life giving eternal God (temp flesh & our everlasting spirit) is a bad thing we can pray your negative attitude does not bring you down 2 much and you choose change ur outlook positive for the better.. God bless Frank, this is the day..
@UCLfKcaY0Y5Xl55u7eI9e-0w I don't have a negative attitude ... I'm a happy, positive guy. I just don't have time for bullshit and medieval superstitions. But you go ahead and waste your life praying to a fictional character all you want and worship to your heart's content. It's infantile to need that crutch, but whatever turns your crank, dude.
My dad used to be a truck driver when I was little and he would listen to Tears for Fears in his truck and I remember telling him that I didn't want to rule the world, being to young to understand what the song was really about.
Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. Absolute LEGENDS! Seen them live twice now and they have the most amazing sound that transcends time. Everybody Wants to Rule The World always gives me goosebumps. If anyone has the chance to see them live, DO IT!!
Please react to these Tears For Fears songs: Sowing The Seeds of Love, Woman In Chains, Mad World, Badman's Song, Pale Shelter, Change, Advice For The Young At Heart, Mother's Talk, The Working Hour, Break It Down Again, and Raoul and the Kings of Spain.
Wow the memories that come flooding back to hear this song. The 80’s a more simpler time . The theme song for The Dennis Miller show. Back when MTV actually played music and videos all day and night. One of my favorite songs ever.
I was visiting California for the 1st time when I heard this song. We were driving on our way to Venice beach when this came on the radio. I think about California when I hear this song.
This is my favorite from this amazing group, my wife's is "head over heels", and my son's is "shout". They are all great songs along with many others. This song came on the radio when I left the hospital from a stroke a couple years ago and I remembered all the lyrics. Now I am back at 100 percent.
summer of 1985, I listened to this cassette "Songs from The Big Chair" in every state. Thanks for playing..need to react to "Sowing The Seeds of Love"🤗 peace out✌
