I'm from the u.s.a. and I sobbed like I did on 9/11 when this happened. It was that same feeling of helplessness that I felt watching the towers burn. My heart breaks for the families and friends of the victims.
I saw this on the news in California in the U.S.A. please remember people that the chief will bring his men and women out because the firefighters safety is number 1. Becoming a first responder is partly knowing you may not make it home. During 9/11 first responders were doing what they trained for and unless it was saving people they were not following any orders but to do what they signed up to do. In this fire that killed 72- 80 people it was on a smaller scale but it was much sadder. Alot sadder because you could hear the people clearly dying. I honestly would have rather shot myself and anyone else if we (my children, my dog, myself, possible grandparent) were going to die being burned alive. And I would NEVER dream to ever do harm as such but what is a better way. Quick shot or two holding my family and saying our last words or screaming in agony while being burned alive... and i mean like I can see and hear my neighbors dying and burning. This is awful and it did remind me of emotions of 9/11. And why do we have apartments so far up? Why is there no way down on the outside and on both sides? Why did it spread so fast...my guess is because it was built with the cheapest and likely very cheap and illegal materials. There should have been sprinklers. Yet it was too spread out already. But id haventried my best go get out. Id rather jump holding my children. 9/11 could not have been prevented. This building burning and burning so fast could have been prevented. There just was no time. I hated living in an apartment but at least only 3 floors. You can survive jumping from 2 or 3 stories easily esp if you have time to throw mattresses down or the f iredighters have that tarp thing. This is awful and it shows how much the government there really cares about their citizens that may be poorer. Sounds like the USA.
Being from NY, I can't not think of 9/11, and the same desperate situation of just being trapped in a blazing inferno with no escape. And this isn't even a deliberate attack. It's just the result of years of systemic rot and apathy.
@@DaL33T5 That, and people willingly ignoring the advice of making fire safety plans for each disabled tenant. It's also the result of people willingly choosing dangerous materials in order to save money. Horrible. So fucking horrible. This event just haunts me. Those poor people.
I never heard of this. This is so sad. This really hurted my whole heart and soul. And made me cry. R.i.p to every single soul that lost their life in this tragic fire.
It’s been 2 years now since that happened and I am speechless! I don’t know what to say. All those people died, makes my life fill with sadness! God bless all those people who died 😭
It's crazy to think all these poor people lost their lives in such a scary devastating way and still certain people try and use this tragedy to cause more grief and hurt by saying hurtful stuff like " bet it was a white man who started the fire"? Come on people surely we should be offering comfort and not pathetic racial crap to these poor families.
Rosco Pico I never meant poor as in penniless I meant poor people as in it's so sad and devastating. I'm quite confused as to why you'd think I meant anything else,I'll apologise if you misunderstood but my heart breaks for these poor people involved in such devastating circumstances.
Ignore him. He's just being a troll and/or irrational bigot in general on these comments (I'm a white Brit, and he strikes me as an attention-seeker). He might have been hinting at his irrational belief (not supported by actual fact) that immigrants are given piles of money each, or that they somehow deserved their fate. He also seems to think all immigrants living there were Muslims, which is not the case. The reality is, the residents were some of the poorest in society - hence why their years of concern about fire-safety in public housing were ignored. The racist plonkers might go on about how a 'white man' wouldn't start a fire like this, but they ignore all the fires white Brits start every day. The difference, is this building had unlawful cladding on it, which made the fire get out of control so quickly. Perhaps the racists could examine their logic - if immigrants were so 'rich', they would not be living in such a poor area, in such dangerous conditions.
Crazy Hai thankyou for your comment, I'm also British (Scottish) and felt maybe this person wanted an argument or something, I did feel uncomfortable with his comments and plan to ignore any comments that make me feel as his did. I wish you well crazy hai🙂
The scariest thing is if my mum had stayed in London when she was pregnant with me we would’ve been put in that tower that’s why she moved back to our home town because she said that she could feel that there was something bad when she was pregnant with me she went to go and have a look around but she could feel that there was something bad so she didn’t and then 10 years later what happened
Mothers intuition is always right. Especially when you have a baby in you, you will be extra sensitive. Your mom is amazing and I’m glad you guys didn’t have to go through that ❤️
I've been learning about this.... apparently a 6 month old baby died in his parents arms...another was a still born the mother surivived...an old 84 year old man had been living there for 34 years .....I feel so sorry for all those people who lost their lives..it shouldn't of happened and hopefully won't happen again....the cladding on the outside was flammable....I in my opinion blame the government...they should have made it safe....there was no fire extinguishers and the lift was broke because they hadn't done anything to it since 2017....this is the government's fault....they should have made it safe....yes the may have not wanted this to happen.....but it was there to keep people safe...and *failed* at it....poor souls....the policy that was put up did more bad that good....more people would have he then out if it wasn't for that policy....but people though they were safe....we failed them
It was a tragedy. May all who died rest in peace. In relation to the lift, you're not supposed to use one in a fire anyway, just a little tip incase you every need to know! Stay safe!
2:53 omg.....I feel sorry for those souls....if they weren't given the stay put policy more people would have survived....all those screams struck me right in the heart......poor souls....the screams sent chills down my spine....I hope they are all at peace..
It's just that, if this tower landlords had respected all fire regulations and put all the money needed into making sure this tower was safe....the stay put policy wouldn't have been a problem. Hell, A building (especially a tower like that!) isn't supposed to catch on fire in 8 minutes.
Watching this after my tower block had a fire 2 weeks ago (arson) ours is 14 floors high, we're on floor 13, the fire happened at 4am on the 14th floor. Escaping down the stairs with my 8 year old was terrifying, all I could think of was Grenfell. I will forever be grateful to the woman from the 14th floor that practically kicked my door in and screamed to get out. The aftermath of dealing with something like this is incredibly strange, there's a numbness but also a fear that lingers. I remember sitting in our hotel room on the first night as we were displaced and not being able to sleep despite being exhausted, I wandered out into the lobby and found all of my neighbours from floors 13 and 14 sat there. Nothing but love to the people of Grenfell.
I lost my freinds (biruk, jessica, Rania, mehdi and his family😭😭😭😭😢😢😢) and i live on Latimer road so i am so close and my sis goes to the school underneath it KAA
My sister in law lives im tower block on the 10th floor. Her lift wasnt working and there was one stair case as I was walking up /down the all I could think of was the grengell tower 💔 no windows no sprinklers... these tower blocks are not safe !!
Every time I look at a high tower I think what would happen if something like this happened and why I would never live or work in one. Whatever happened to fire escapes on the outside of buildings? No building 4 stories or higher should legally be made without one. They used to make them in the 60s and 70s.. I think.. but never see them any buildings made anymore. You see them on old buildings in new york and inner cities but dont see them on anything made in last 20-40 years
I've been in a fire and escaped. I've never been the same again. I didnt realize how much it affected me ttill the next place I moved was in another fire. I can only live in place with two exits and ground floor. I have post-traumatic stress this is horrific. When you hear an alarm, GET OUT FAST
I'm not in the UK but just the social media after the fire made it very clear it was much more than 80 dead. I read accounts from firefights of multiple flats filled with 30+ people. If they found 4 flats with those numbers it already puts them over 80, and they found many more than 4 flats filled with remains.
I hope the man at the end, experiences something that will give him peace ❤️ same with the others. My goodness. That man is right. Such a waste of life! :( Edit: however I will say these people did not die without dignity. They died for something, they didn’t have to, but because of the victims /survivors buildings are being made safer. I thank them for that .
2:00 A fireighter...the first unit was there 6 minutes after the alarm. .... You don't get fires that spread that quickly. THIS went from the 4th floor to the 18th floor in about 8 minutes.
What's ur point? They were there in 6 mins, and within another 2 mins, it had reached the 18th floor. U expected one unit to deal with 14 floors of fire in 2 mins?
Hi Crazy Hai, looked at the vid after 1 year. from the 4th to the 18th in 8 minutes ! .... I meant - that the fire brigades - and many of the residents had no chance. And I was still am shocked about HOW QUICKLY the fire spread even in the beginning. Such insulation fires had happened before (never with such catastrophic outcome). So the architectcs or planners SHOULD have known ! The command of the firebrigades likely realized it at a time when it was too late to savely evacuate. And given that the building had only ONE staircase (not wide!) it would have been also a nightmare to evacuate. (never mind it was complete negation of the usual policy that keeps people safe). Many people at that time asked themselves why the firefighter had to not evacuated. I think they had a very, very narrow window of time where that would have looked like a halfway safe solution. And they were confronted with a completely new situation so when they realized WHAT was going on they had the choice between 2 terrible scenarios. The fire could creep into the house from the outside - so not only would they have had hundreds of people rushing down the staircase while the firebrigades try to GO UP and with all the equipment. some people instinctively acted against the stay put policy (or did not even know it) and in this case it saved their life. But of course they profited from the fact that not everybody ran down at the same time. The staircase quickly filled with smoke and became a death trap too. this was social manslaughter.
Rosco Pico I'm a white Brit, not politically 'correct', and I do have concerns about immigration when it's uncontrolled. But logically, u r not very bright if u think this situation was created by 'immigrants'. If u check ur facts, u would be aware that a) Predominantly white investment bankers created the recession that involved austerity cuts, which most likely were the major cause of the poor fire safety in this building. b) Overall, immigration brings in more taxes than it costs. If u check the research overall (compared to whatever bigotted news/rumour source u use), u wld know that. So basically, if the immigrants weren't there, there wld be even less public money available. Therefore, with those two facts, u cannot logically blame immigrants for this. I don't give two hoots if the guy whose fridge caught fire, was an immigrant or not. If it hadn't have been him, it would have been someone else eventually in this tower (immigrant or Brit), who dropped a fag, or fell asleep with candles burning. That happens routinely every day around the country. U also can't expect laypeople (immigrants or Brits) to have enough technical knowledge, to know a fridge is potentially dangerous - u think he WANTED his flat to burn?! The problem was most likely AUSTERITY, which led to the council (who do have an understanding of risks in building) putting cheap cladding on the building, making it go up like a torch. As the fire brigade say, normally they wld have got it under control quickly.
I’m pissed off with all the people who were not in the fire but pretended they were ….. and claimed new homes and government grants plus compensation…..the real victims were entitled , not them greedy lying pigs
@@madjomaskon6226 Nope, four years later and no one has been held accountable. As if the flammable cladding wasn't enough, the public inquiry also listed these issues: Multiple fires were allowed to spread because of combustible materials by the windows and within the cladding system. Whilst attempts had been made to construct fire stopping compartments within the cladding, they were "installed incorrectly, and no evidence has been provided that they were ever tested for performance in the type of cladding installed at Grenfell Tower," the report said. -Flat entrance doors were non-compliant with fire test evidence and doors going to the stairs "do not appear to have been upgraded since installation in 1972" -The ventilation system - which was meant to prevent smoke from entering the stairwell - did not appear to work as intended -Issues with fire lifts meant they could not be used to transport equipment or residents up and down the building -The fire service had to pump its own water into Grenfell Tower - the building's "dry fire main" system was "non-compliant" with guidance at the time of construction and is "non-compliant with current standards" A complete man made disaster to save money. Horrible.
One guy lied about his ordeal getting out of Grenfell tower... He wasn't in the towers. The lie was so easy to see because he said suitcases were all over the stairwell. There was no time for people to pack clothes. In 10 minutes all the sides were on fire. Does anyone here believe people were packing their clothes in the heat and smoke???? NO WAY. Why he lied, I don't know.
There were still people alive and trying to escape *_12 hours_* after the fire started, Many people spoke of "things" blocking the stairs and there was zero visability. Those "things" turned out to be *dead bodies.* Without being able to see what you were stepping on you might mistake them for suitcases.
Aadam Hajat it wasn't badly built. It was made reinforced and to remain standing after the partial collapse of Ronan Point towerblock in the 1960s, and to contain flames. The containment parts were drilled and comprised during the renovation of Grenfell.
Aadam Hajat materials not stronger then concrete for all the people who are saying about 9/11. I know this because my bro lives in grenfell tower (Paul Menacer) hes alive, and my mum has been helping since the day to now. Also i live on latimer road and my sis goes to KAA.
The World Trade Center towers probably would not have collapsed if it weren't for the fact that, you know, they both had gaping multi-floor plane sized holes in them. You try punch a 7-10 storey hole in a skyscraper and see how long it remains standing.
Grenfell was horrendous but technically the Piper Alpha Disaster of 1988 was the deadliest fire in modern Britain. It was in British maritime water and claimed 167 lives.
It's so eerie. A day after the fire, me and my mum were discussing what could be the cause. I said "It could've been a fridge. Wait, do fridges catch fire?" My mum replied, "yes, anything electrical." So I guessed a fridge. Weeks later, it was released the cause was a fridge. o.O
David Bowie song "Putting out The Fire With Gasoline" pretty much sums up why this building burned due a refrigerator fire. God knows and will judge accordingly.
If this ever happens to you, just know that you can save your kitty. Plop them out the window (best to have them land on grass/dirty rather than). they can survive a fall like that, they parachute and land flat on there belly with all there legs spread out(natural instinct). The higher they fall from the better chance they have to survice and go into the parachute mode.
I don’t understand why they told the people to stay in their apartments. That was the most stupid thing; they stood a better chance trying to escape that fire! This was such a sad situation and an avoidable one if the building inspectors had done their job according to the building codes and the person who owned the building. To think that I saw a video of racist white people making an effigy of the building with brown people stuck at the windows and burning it while they laughed and mocked, sick my soul. These are the same type of people who think that slavery was a good thing! You will reap the rewards of what you sow Demons.
From the public inquiry: Multiple fires were allowed to spread because of combustible materials by the windows and within the cladding system. Whilst attempts had been made to construct fire stopping compartments within the cladding, they were "installed incorrectly, and no evidence has been provided that they were ever tested for performance in the type of cladding installed at Grenfell Tower," the report said. -Flat entrance doors were non-compliant with fire test evidence and doors going to the stairs "do not appear to have been upgraded since installation in 1972" -The ventilation system - which was meant to prevent smoke from entering the stairwell - did not appear to work as intended -Issues with fire lifts meant they could not be used to transport equipment or residents up and down the building -The fire service had to pump its own water into Grenfell Tower - the building's "dry fire main" system was "non-compliant" with guidance at the time of construction and is "non-compliant with current standards" The stay put policy was applied because it is the appropriate response for a fire in a high rise. It usually works pretty well when....all the fire safety regulations are met and inforced. Which wasn't the case. Did you listen to the video? The fire spread to the top flour in 8 minutes! This is not supposed to happen. Obviously this is fucking horrible, but the 911 responders followed the procedure that isn't a problem usually. Those poor people oh my god.
THE LIKENESS OF TIANJIN......BURNED WITH FIRE ON TIME IN SYNCH.

The Fire men & women told them to stay in the flats. To get back in & shut the doors. It was SHOCKING WATCHING IT. 🤬 WHO TELLS PEAPLE TO GO BACK IN TO A BURNING BUILDING. LONDON FIRE BRIGADE DID.
At the time of the court case, Grenfell seems to be the powerful people telling the rest of us...”We can do what we like”. This enquiry will only as, the same questions as the survivors did AT THE TIME. Getting drips of answers a year later is not what this nation is about. Now the BBC news is saying that Criminal prosecution AGAINST THE FIREMAN are being looked at. ITS NOT THEIR POLICY AT FAULT. IT IS SOLELY DOWN TO THE PROFITEERS SMUDGING GIRE REGULATIONS. VILE INHUMANE ACTIONS OF DICTATORSHIP FLEXING ITS MUSCLES.
Rosco Pico ; how did the fire start? They have time to run out from the building. If it start from one complex. That means someone must have start a fire n quickly went up. Only couple of people made it out.
Short answer massive violation. Long answer cladding on the outside was highly flammable and gave off toxic flumes as it burn. There was no sprinklers or no fire alarm in the building. There was only stair well down which was supposed to be fire proof didn't no have fire doors coursing it to act like a chimney funneling smoke. (Residents had been warning of all of these faults for quite some time) Also Issues with access to the road preventing fire engines getting closer, water pressure issue on the night and faulty gas pipes within the tower didn't help but let's be honest I think we can all see as soon as that cladding went up the people on high floor sadly never had a chance.
Deregulate, deregulate, deregulate! Regulations limit business profits, who cares about the collateral damage....thanks Thatcher, thanks Reagan, thanks Trump!
yes its a conspiracy caused by the white ruling class.all blacks and muslims rise up and take over it could never be an accident must be a white government trying to ethnically cleanse yawn im falling asleep
The fridge started the fire, but the cladding was what caused it to spread up the building with such speed. So both the faulty wiring and the cladding is the fault of the local authority who ignored residents’ concerns for years.
Gareth Leyland WTF WTF ARE YOU SAYING? ARE YOU STUPID? HOW DARE YOU? YOU STUPID SON OF A BITCH! Their God do you serve God apparently not you self righteous piece of filth.
@@AdujTheMultiCrafter basicly, the circuit wen't up the board, and into the fridge, it then egnited the fridge gas, and then lit on fire, the fire then caught on the cladding, witch spread to other flats.
You all bitches should shut the fuck up. This is not something you make fun of. Babys and little kids died in that building and familys are still hurt.
jayjays18152 I can see the privileged life you've lead with the words you write. I guess your ignorance and luxury keeps you warm at night; you should try and keep in My that many people in the world have much less than you.
