Actually you got that the wrong way round - Ghost Trap with Red bits on - GB1 Ghost Trap with Silver/White bits on - GB2 since that is technically the one we see in the courtroom scene as exhibit B or C.

Damn, 10 years later and my little (modded) Rubies Ghost Trap actual opens better than the Matty one. I can feel you're frustration here, a decade later and it still feels very fresh. Hasbro we need a Ghost Trap to compliment our new Proton Packs 😭

Once Hasbro makes their own Ghost Trap (presumably for *_Afterlife_* or the original two films) I would love to see the comparison between that inevitable one, and this one, Paul.

I had the same problem earlier on my trap. Later on, I found out that it was just the batteries dying out since I haven't changed them since I bought it. Don't use rechargeable batteries, the trap seems to dislike them even more. Unless it's something wrong with the gearing on the inside, it's more than likely the motors not getting enough juice from the batteries to operate them. Change them out and put some brand new ones in. It'll likely fix the problem :)

Yeah, you definitely got a bad one. Just from the sounds your doors make compared to the other one and from other videos on RU-vid, I can tell yours has an issue with a gear slipping or breaking. They do all of their CS online though, like most places, so contacting them via e-mail is the best bet. They offer refunds for up to 30 days, so I'm sure a replacement isn't out of the question. I'd like to know what happens though. Please keep us updated, and thanks for the video!

It sounds as if the gears are trying to engage, but instead of catching they just rake past each other. That plus the fact that you said the stickers on the doors aren't lining up, it's possible that the door itself is misaligned. Still, inexcusable for an item that expensive to be defective out of the box. And why all the "thumbs down" guys? He's giving an honest opinion of the product = that's what reviews are all about! This isn't a "paint error", it's not working! I'd be pissed too!

The villian in me would have made the switch and sent the faulty item to the friend, you're an honest man Paul.

I hope you get your replacement dude, or at least another cartridge for the trap that works. I agree with you tho, for THE $130 price it's going for BATTERIES SHOULD BE INCLUDED!!!! But to be fair I think, and hope yours was just the one of the few slip ups in QC. I think Ray and Egon would be mad if their equipment got screwed up like that. Now all I want is a Proton Pack. I had a toy one as a Kid and I still have it somewhere. I loved that thing T-T.

at first i was gonna say "sit it up properly". but after seeing your friends trap work properly even while not standing up properly, and working, i figured you might've gotten screwed. and at $130, i'd feel the same way. This isn't something you pick up at toys r us, this is a full fledged "replica prop" sold at a very high price (thank you, stranger). It is still very awesome, and this review was very awesome as well. I also saw your Neutrona wand (Neutrino wand, if you wanna call it that) and that was awesome. I ordered a Positron Collider myself after viewing that wand review. Currently shipping, can't wait! love this review by the way, don't mind the adult stuff, it wasn't that adult to be honest. We all get pissed off sometimes and words slip. I'm sure we've all been there. All in all, great review, completely honest and no holds barred. I'm thinking of picking this bad boy up myself to go with my Positron Collider and have some fun in the night with the Mrs. By that I mean annoying her at 3am running around the house trapping ghosts, hahaha.

What would be funny if the packaging peanuts were inside the two halves! Lol

That trap is the coolest thing I've seen. (when it works). I'm sure Mattycollector will do right by you and send you one that works properly.

those things does the job when the doors are already open! check if the dooropening is to heavy to handel vor those "risers"! maybe fresh batteries! something like that!

Did you think for a moment that it did not work only when you had it on its side? That looks like the problem, when you put it flat it seemed to work. In the movie, they had it flat on the ground, that is why their's worked.

I think the motor that makes opening and closing the door is not properly attached to the gears. You should remove the trap, find the motor and attach it properly. These things happen. Sorry for the incorrect grammar ... I'm Italian and I can not speak fluent English.

they have an exchange policy, they exchanged a few items i had gotten that were dammaged apon arrival with me. maybe it's the way i worded the letter, but they've had a 30-90 day exchange for like ever. even back when you bought their original toys off the shelf, when the store wouldn't exchange, mattel would, hell i remember my parents shipping to them to exchange my mutant heman with missing hands after christmas

Mate, that's such a bummer. I can remember that something similar happened to a r/c car I had. It had working indicators, front and rear lights. Within 10 minutes, the indicators stopped working

The other odd thing about your trap (and your friend's) is that the yellow lights on top that come on after the doors close do a "chasing" light pattern. Mine, as well as others I've seen just chase to one side one time only, stay lit a few seconds, then the round yellow light stays lit. Why are yours different? They didn't chase in the movie like yours. Maybe it's the way the camera films this?

Well, I am glad to see that only one had an issue. I do hope they fix it for you. I use yours, JTMitchell's and peaugh's reviews to help my collection choices. @optobotimus My friend had two of these, both of them didn't work. One of them he managed to fix. The gears in the one side were off centre and he just put a small washer in to the gap gear and it worked fine. If they haven't replaced or repaired it by the time you read this, then maybe that's what you could do. But they have to be INSANE to think that they can distribute this and think that's its OK.

I've read you need fresh, fully charged batteries for it to work properly, that may have been the problem.

If i spent that much on a toy and it didn't work i would have been soooo pist. I would have fixed it one way or another but still id be pist. Thank you for the review. I wonder if it just happened to be the one you got or if they are all like this.

Yeah and I must say great review and I watched many more good job and most the time you had it on its side or crooked not standing up straight

@optibotimus Is it possible that the knobs control the action of the door as to how far it will spring up when activated. Not necessarily the electronics.

Guess you picked the wrong box to keep for yourself. Hopefully mattycollector will give you a replacement. That's a sweet prop. Would love to get one a long with a proton back (if one is ever made) and a PKE meter.

Aside from the PKE meter there wasn't too much I was interested in prop wise.

I would really like to know if it works when you put it on it's weels. I know that this is sometimes a bit funny. but it does sound like the wheels don't grab into each other

you can easily build these yourself. with lots of patience and the right tools...

sounds like that particular one has a simple issue, it's a plastic gear inside the mechanism that's ether broken or stripped out, i use to have similar problems with my remote cars as a kid, or anything with a similar electically triggered action like that, makes a pop then you hear the grinding noise. might wanna take advantage of the return and exchange clause in your ordering dude

Geez man, I heard the local cosplay group's gear is about 1000 bucks total, but it's all custom made and about 90% metal. If that door didn't have aproblem with the track's it'd be a good alternative.

@Optibotimus In Peaugh's vid, the orientation of the so-called "useless knobs" is different, maybe that might be your problem.

@optibotimus ,it's definently not unreasonable to ask for a replacement at that price point. These kinds of things happen, but it would be way out of line for Mattel to turn you down. Especially since the line is aimed at Collectors, and at $130 there is absolutely no reason that they should give you any more hassles than they already have. Keep on them until you get the answer you need, and post a response with how it goes. I'm sure a lot of people would love to see how Mattel handles this.

The trap always was my favorite but I hope they improved it though because no way I’m spending that amount on something that won’t work correctly

That sharp intake of breath and follwoing outburst was very warrented. You buy matty's stuff you were on the club-ecto thing (before that went tits up) and if you're paying a large price tag, the least one an expect is for the item to work. And for mattel to splash out on paint apps instead of stickers. Hope you get your trap fixed. Myself, I'd rather a trap with the LEDs and a mini smoke machine inside, for that "one in the trap" look

Even though you have said that turning it over makes no difference and it still doesn't work, I really am surprised that during this whole video you never thought TO turn it over and see if that made a difference.

Whats with your yellow led lights on the top doing the little dance? I've seen 2 other traps and none of them had that, the lights just lit up one after the other and stayed lit. Nice review though, hope you got yours fixed (or fixed it).

Try fresh batteries if you haven't. Would also explain the lack of vibrating...things like that are going to need a lot of juice to work properly. LED lights will run off nothing.

if i had a busted up ghost trap id buy a new one and strap a bunch of fire worksto the old one and enjoy the show

Optibotimus; If me, you and a few of our youtube buddies went Ghostbusting with that...we'd be SO screwed =_= lol!!! Looking at how it opens Im curious to ask, instead of leaning it on its side did you try having it sit straight up and then try opening it?? Reason why I ask is cause it looks like the way they designed the doors to open, my theory is that the uneven weight doesn't allow the doors to work like their suppose to. Idk, what do you think??

Looks like the doors are not even. You can tell the opening by the handle is bigger.
