Pixel Dan takes an advanced look at the upcoming Ghostbusters Ghost Trap Prop Replica from Mattel! Ghost Trap Replica will be available on www.mattycollector.com starting October 17th, 2011!
I had NO IDEA about the trap pulling out like that. Also, I’d completely forgotten about the two operating modes. So I thought my trap had been broken for years. Switched it to movie mode and BAM! Everything works!!! So glad you made this video.
Watching this and can’t believe it says “10 years ago” already. Those were such exciting times for GB fans, I really enjoyed these props. But now is even more exciting, what a time to be alive
This is so cool! Mattel really went all out on these traps. One of the nicest prop replicas actually made from a company I've ever seen. I especially like how the trap jumps after the ghost is in it. Thank you for the great demo and review!
This is amazing to look back on today. Anyone else here after the Hasbro Phase 2? Mattel really did an maxing job with these all those years ago from the functionality to the incredible uniform packaging. Even more amazing is the price these things fetched over the last 10 years. I think this was $50 when it came out? Up to $1000 on EvilBay. Amazed they were never re-released. They would have sold 10s of thousands more. Willing to estimate back in 2012 Mattel left at least $2 million on the table not putting these out again over the last 12 years.
@@riffreaper6095 That spirit proton pack isnt too bad. A guy on youtube modded it to look like the real Ghostbusters pack. Pretty sick. I recommend checking it out if your a fan.
@benhs1898 You are correct. Early on in production, the rods were yellow. The most noticeable shot is in the montage as Ray comes up the stairs with the smoking trap. However, as production went on they were replaced with the familiar red color.
Pixel Dan I checked matty collector and clicked on the ghost busters part and when on to the ghost trap and there's just a gallery of it. do you know any where else to by it
Something interesting about the trap: Not only were there red and silver bars, but there were other colors as well, looking closely at Ghostbusters 1, when Walter Peck shut off the containment grid you can see other traps in a box and one of them has yellow bars. It would've been neat if they also included the yellow bars, but not a lot of people pay attention to every detail.
Hey Pixel Dan, Loved your Ghostbusters mattel trap video! :) I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a font similar to the "Masters of the Universe" font... the one you use in the bold blue letters to spell "Pixel Dan" at the start of your vids..? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, brandon
It certainly beats my old Real Ghostbusters trap that works on a little puff of air when you push the "pedal".. which I still have and still works, and never fails to make me smile.
Thanks be to Gozer that Hasbro is releasing the 2 in the box Haslab. I have the Proton pack and cant wait for the trap and pke to arrive. I can't believe the prices these Matty props go for on the secondary market. I guess Hasbro has spoiled me because I can't believe this thing is all plastic. I just assumed it had some metal and weight to it like the Haslab products. I never knew that and would have been pretty annoyed if I had ever caved and purchased one. I almost pulled the trigger at my local toy shop. So instead of paying $600 for this I paid $300 & got a trap and pke coming my way.
Interesting how your trap makes the buzzing sound when the doors open. The other videos of this I've seen ( as well as my trap ) do not make the buzzing sound. Was yours an early prototype so you could make this review video? I wonder why they decided to delete that sound effect? Anyhow, great review and vid!
that this and the PKE meter exist kind of surprise me, at least being made by Mattel, I'm surprised a large toy company like them would make such a high-quality low volume prop replica.. I'd expect it to be made by one of the more specialized companies..
I'm excited for mine to arrive. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that there's no way to attach this thing to a utility belt. I want to add this to my Ghostbusters costume and replace my old toy trap, but without a clip, I'm not sure I will be able to. The price makes me a little worried about possibly modding it to add a clip or something in fear of ruining it. Otherwise, it's an awesome product. :D I hope they make a Proton Pack! My homemade one kinda sucks. :(
Mattel have made some beautiful prop replicas for GB and I almost salivate imagining what a MattyCollector proton pack could be like, but the figures leave a lot to be desired. When you look at what NECA did with the GB creatures and ghosts several years ago, the detail doesn't compare. All of this should also have been tied in with the GB video game release... enough of ma yacking, though, as this is just a beautiful thing!
When he said “does not actually catch giant marshmello men” i don’t think they caught stay puft in the movie ALL THOUGHHHH in the real ghostbusters cartoon show it showed ray putting out the trap and it also caught stay puft so that could be a reference
Had I designed it, I would have had the sound effects from one of those "trapped tourist" novelty crates. * knock knock knock* "'Scuse me...'Scuse me...CAN YOU LET ME OUT OF HERE?!"
Watching this back to back with the He-Man costume video is quite a shock. You're like the same looking but different and you sound the same but not exactly
I would prefer the silver tubes for the ghost trap instead of the red tubes. I wish the prop makers had given the trap ONLY the silver tubes of both the first and second movies.
How come the "far right' resistor/knob, on the front of your trap, is bent @ a downward angle like that, Dan? It's NOT supposed to be like that! Certaintly hope all traps aren't like this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is awesome, but I'm a little disappointed that for such an amazing looking replica, they didn't bother to have sound effects from the movies playing while the trap is opening, and then playing the swooshing sound while closing. I mean, for THAT much money, you think they could have put in a small sound bite on a chip to do that.
HasLab has made a life size Proton Pack...but from the movie "AfterLife" with the functional capability to switch it to "GhostBusters 1984" sounds!.....Their a little pricey, but worth it it! You can even "modify" them any way you want... (structurally).
