These combat warriors ("Nomads of Vietnam") were triumphant in this battle (Operation Benton) and then proceeded on to other military victories in the pursuit of democracy and freedom in the name of the U.S.A. until they were wounded, killed, or returned home/stateside to face a divided America.

Captain Odem, supper nice guy, cool and calm made us all feel safe when I was with the Recondo Platoon. He was a LT then glad to see he made it out and back stateside. Have great respect for this man. I participated in operation Benton with the HHQ Recondos. VN 1966-1968

Both places NOT very Friendly. S.W. of Danang (Que Son valley) during the Summer of 1967 1,000 Marines went home in body bags!! Operations "Union 1 and 2", and Operation "Swift" (June-Sept.). Most people NEVER heard of them. 3 Medal of Honors in those battles! That's why DaNang was basically "quite" during "TET" unlike Hue of Jan-Feb of 1968. NVA 2 Div. was "wiped-out" there before TET!

I had an older friend that was with some Marine helicopter (CH-46) unit (DaNang, Marble Mountain) in 1970,71? Maybe those guys supported you? He said the Que Son valley was "nasty" as hell!

@@jonness8927 I know because my husband was in this battle, is in this video (Lyle a.k.a Padre toward the end), and he is the one who obtained a copy of this video. He told me exactly who this Vietnamese person in the background is; he had personal contact with him. Now, drop your asinine racist attitude...it is YOU who knows nothing, mister! Go spew your bigotry somewhere else!!

Noticed the BN. C.O. had himself a Nice, New Car-15 (shorty) M-16 assault weapon over his shoulder. Too BAD he probably NEVER fired the weapon in "Anger" during his entire tour!!
