I'd say Hot Fuzz is kinda the same theme, it's basically making light of action film tropes to make action comedy. It's British but as an American, I felt the jokes hit well despite the usual stereotype that their humor is dry.

@@Gnossiene369 Since you ask somebody else, I will answer. ;) I think what they did with his role kind of works as a one-off. Mocking black/brownface performances by white people by actually doing one! Being nominated for an award just means that some people thought that what he did was impressive. I think he played his ridiculous comedic role pretty convincingly, so he perhaps deserved the nomination. I think that takes real skill. "I know who I am! I’m a dude playing the dude, disguised as another dude!" 🤣

@@Gnossiene369 Or just see it as an award show instead of a opinion guide... I know... shocking concept! And RDJ played an awesome role, and he should be credited/awarded for it. Basicly a lot of opinions can become a fact in a certain way. Terminator 2 is seen as a factual good movie cause the overwhelming opinion is positive.
@maryamshaaban74
@maryamshaaban74 Год назад
Careful everyone, we have a woke, deep thinker over here. Do you think awards are only a Hollywood concept? Any country with an established film industry has multiple awards, some rank higher than others (just like Hollywood) And the reason they do in fact, matter, is because it's an opinion of people who study films. Dude, even science and inventions have Nobel prize. And guess who decides who gets it? Not the publice, but people who truly understand science. Other wise this would've been a voting contest manipulated by likeability and popularity rather than the performance itself. Not to say these awards aren't rigged every once in a while. But here you go, this is "why"

RDJ was initially extremely wary of playing this role. For obvious reasons. But Ben told him he would take 100% of the heat for this movie, and true to his word he played the mental health needs character and he took all the flack for the film during publicity etc. This movie is genius level satire, and RDJ really loved being able to play with that commentary on hollywood and actors. Satire is hard to make without crossing some lines. Seems Stiller and Mel Brooks both understand that the way to make it work is to go 200% in on it. Don't step a little over the line, go so far over the line that it becomes ridiculous. Rick didn't give up the jet... he took the jet and the money and used the jet to get to Tugg quickly to save him. :D It's great.

I don't think this movie - or anything remotely like it, could be made today. But I'm glad it was made, because it's brilliant. It's certainly not the first time Hollywood has made a movie about itself. Off the top of my head, I can think of The Bad And The Beautiful from the 1950s, Robert Altman's The Player, Living in Oblivion (though that's more about little indie films). Tropic Thunder works o so many levels. It's always great to watch along with first-timers as they try to figure just what the heck they're watching... and to watch them finally get it.

Ben Stiller offered his role to Tom Cruise but Tom was busy making a mission impossible so turned it down. That's when Ben Stiller took the role and began filming. Tom Cruise called back after filming had begun and said he had some time and that's when the Les discussion came into play. I can't imagine how absurd this movie would have been seeing Tom Cruise not only wearing the Panda fur of his slain attacker, but as Simple Jack... 🤯 i think I'd have died.

I love you guys and your sweet energy video to video. This is the first video where that seemed to work against you. More Thor than the other co-star. What I mean is your energy to not laugh at something possibly offensive or potentially politically incorrect is palpable throughout the entire duration of the reaction content. That seems to work at cross purposes with what a reactor and basically film analytics critics when you wrap up at the end to give your overall yes or no on if the movie is worthy. But, you clearly aren't free of mind and seem almost pained internally which effects your genuine responses to the material at hand in a organic, sincere way as all and any film should get the benefit of every time. But, y'all seem like you're too scared to truly let yourselves go and enjoy the genius satire and send up by intelligent talented people who have earned your trust to be given the benefit of the doubt before judging prematurely they didn't know what they were doing or being ignorant and insensitive shock jocks instead of the comedic brilliant artists they are and career best work they are bringing. Comedy, but especially art and in this case, comedic art needs to take chances, push the envelope, be dangerous, risky, not worry if someone will cancel someone in artificial cyberspace reality or not. That's the death of art right there if your editing yourself before anyone else even censors you. You guys are artists with these videos and I'm especially into your Friends reaction videos which enhance the show with your real bursts of laughter and missing two jokes after because you're still laughing. I've seen and heard your immortal laugh and it is dazzling bolt of thunderous awesomeness filled with glorious purpose. But, when you're watching quite possibly, arguably one of the greatest cinematic comedies ever crafted that feels just as edgy and topical like it was shot tomorrow, well, something's wrong and off. You both are intelligent people put in an impossible situation with the loom of potential RU-vid strikes from just one misguided angry dissenter, so i get it. Especially when your income is on the line and this is how you make a living. But, there's a happy middle without having to completely sandbag your performances living in fear of potential backlash. The guy that mashes up all your guys reaction for various movie scenes on RU-vid has one one on the Downey-Stiller scene talking about you never go full bleeeeep. One guy, I believe it might be George, has a hilarious line which they named the clip which is halfway through he says, 'They're still saying it....' and most importantly, their laughter keeps growing with each use. The very building blocks of comedy repetition here 101, pulled off brilliantly. I think you were too self aware to allow yourself to invest in the scene and just your internal monologue was drowning out the movie saying, 'Please be over uncomfortable scene.' But, it's a problem when the entire movie is one uncomfortable scene. If you let it. That's it. Rant over. This comes from a place of love and wanting y'all to succeed. The funniest line was the female co-host in the very beginning when you kind of mock challenged asked her if she would drink a Booty Sweat and without missing a beat, she unapologetically shot back: 'Sure. Why not?' That was subverting expectations comedically done hilariously right. The expectation for someone to play it safe, go the expected group think way, not be judged. Nope. She did what all good comedians do: turn it around, subvert, be salmon and go against the current where you find an endless sea of creative possibilities. That's what they teach at improv classes. You guys have the personality to do this all the time. I believe in you. Your immortals for God(s) sake. Much love. Don't block me, bro. I love this channel. Lol. But seriously, please don't forsake meeeeeeeeeeeeee.... 😊❤️❤️🤙
