Guest: Vijay Prashad, director of the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. He is the author of many books including The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World.
Vijay is one of the most intelligent and compassionate journaiists in the Western world. Thank you, Vjay, for your wise words and what they have taught us. 🇪🇭🇪🇭
All fair minded people for truth and justice know where to stand on this issue. It's not complicated. Hat tip to Vijay for standing on the right side of history.
Thank you! Thank You! Vijay Prashad and Mitch for this program. I Love what Vijay Prashad had to say. I totally agree! Israel controls so much the narrative without proof.
Thankyou for this conversation. Mitch, i just purchased, National Geographic Concise Atlas of the World Fifth Edition, Authoritive and complete with more than 200 maps and illustrations and I was dumbfounded tha Palestine is not even sited in this book. Israel is in the index, but not Palestine. This means Palestine doesnt exist?? I was also angry that i had purchased this atlas.
So clear, logical & full of integrity. And so calm in the face of the underlying thrust of the insinuating question: “do you condemn the actions of Hamas on October 7.” Thank you, Mitch, for bringing this entire discussion to us. 🙏🏽
Thanks, Mitch, for inviting Vijay. This is my first view of your show on RU-vid and I heard Vijay for the first time. He is knowledgeable no doubt, but unlike many men/women of knowledge, he is a man of understanding and moral integrity. "Moral Inequivalence" is the main issue in this 70-year long conflict. You are spot on, Vijay. Thank you for being the voice of the voiceless.
Thank you for this enriching talk on the madness we live in and the matter on the South African political system in the 80's actually you were quite kind in your response and I would have had a more critical response. When i heard the SG of the UN asking for help it confused me and immediately wanted to know why this powerful man is asking for help and on my investigation I found out that the US vetoed 76 resolutions against the UN effort to censure Israel and now we have these criminals killing children and if the people of the US must wake up to this madness before it is too late, common sense will dictate what actions you need to take. GOOD LUCK
I'm an American and so heartbroken for the Palestinians . It apears that all the millions protesting have no effect on Biden and the military. They just give $$$ of our tax dollars to Israel? Pure insanity!
Honestly, how long can we continue to have debates and discussions on a genocide that is actively happening? This is not some hypothetical situation that needs a philosophical discussion- it's been over a month and thousands of peoples are continuing to die, and we are losing time watching them die and only able to express outrage and dismay
I sat in a white van outside Ramallah at a check point. A child waving an automatic rifle towards my face. Stopping a van full of women. Ridiculous. I visited Jerico, Bethlehelm, Nablus, Hebron and took a bus over the King Hussein bridge into Jordan. When I came back the check into Israel stopped me for almost an hour. The Israeli children with automatic rifles stopping me from sitting in the Al Aquasa mosque didn't impress me either. The Israelis were insensitive, taunting, crude and inhumane. The Palestinians made me fresh OJ. Oh by the way the Israelis are RICH. The Palestinians not so much. This is not a complicated story. It's called a land grab.
You confused jewish children and arab children with rifles. There is a huge difference between the two. One culture produces Einstein another jihadis and ra.pists
Yes and cold murder, racist smear, imprisonment with no charges, kidnapping, torture of children and innocents, starvation, war crimes, imperialism, bullying, depraved occupation and siege. Goes on and on. Free Palestine
Mitch, great show! Thank you for all your good work! ~~ I would like to add that when Vijay mentions the children from Ukraine that were brought to Russia, these were children from eastern Ukraine which UNICEF warned in 2019 were in mortal danger. Russia did not "kid-nap" these children as the New York Times irresponsibly claimed, but instead acted on appeals from people in the Donbas regions concerned that these children would otherwise perish in the attacks from western Ukraine. The United Nations were silent in cynical disregard as right wing nationalists attacked these regions from 2014 through 2022 when Russia interceded, and with good reason--these brutal militias were infact armed by the United States.
The politics of condemnation are always to silence or slow down speech. Regardless of the reasons for demanding condemnation, this act itself does not produce any material change.
Thanks for having Dr. Vijay Prashad whith his extensive knowledge of US and British Evil Empire destroying many centuries in Latin America Middle East Africa etc
Mr Jeserich, as you seem to be laser focused on pushing ‘charges’ regarding slogans such as ‘from the river to the sea,’ perhaps you can bring an Israeli on your show and ask them about the continuous settlement building on the WestBank, ‘Jews only roads’ and towns, the checkpoints, the home demolitions, the home appropriations, the land appropriations, the shooting of child protesters in the knees, the child prisoners, the occupation of Lebanese and Syrian lands illegally and building settlements on them. You could ask them about stealing Gaza’s water by surrounding Israeli settlements that drill horizontally into Gazan aquifers to make life there untenable, the restrictions on fishing on farming, the brutal blockade, and maybe you can ask them about calling Palestinians ‘human animals’, about the 175, 000Palestinians of the Negev, who legally do not exist for Israeli law, where their homes are regularly bulldozed, with provision for schools or any system of social support, and maybe you can ask them about why not one single train line stops at Palestinian towns and villages within Israel, why there has never been a single hospital built there since the 1930s.. You mentioned 911 (a highly questionable event) that had nothing to do with Hamas or the Palestinians anyway, and compare that to the October 7th attack. Bottom line is that the people ACTUALLY running your country and Europe are from the intelligence services, military services, and the financial services, and All these are at core white, racist institutions whose interests ultimately converge into the set of ‘living very well off the human misery of people of colour around the world’; a macabre 400 years project that had never ceased, except now its advanced under the cover of the fony war on terror…get your shop in order before bandying about off-the shelf hollow phrases, because you until you do that, you’re just a movie critic, deconstructing a bad movie that has zilch to do with reality; a reality that is spreading in the hearts and minds of billions of people around the world with every war crime you provide cover for to maintain your living standards.
Prashad may be convincingly eloquent, logical, make a lot of sense and so on but the twisted minds on the other side is more powerful when it comes to the general public. Night after night, we have to endure main stream media news broadcasts that spends a lot of airtime on a very human aspect of the relatives of poor innocent Israelis who were murdered on Oct 7th, how they're coping with it, memories of the victims, remembering the victims' kindness and compassion, etc. And then the reporting spends a fraction of the time to cover the hundreds of Palestinians who simply died every day since Oct 7th because they happen to be where the bombs happen to fall You can almost hear the "oops" by the newscasters. That they think we are so stupid does not even come into the equation.
There is no moral equvalency in the US either. They don't sees the black Americans as humans too. Police brutality in America is one of the examples. Do you agree.
Most social & individual problems come from persons or groups who see selves as ethically superior over other people &!nature, so they deserve more power, wealth,!status,?education, food,?arts,?etc.?than others. This could be called root “” of all evils by (self) chosen people.
If you really don't know, look at a map! But for all their hatred of Israel, they will surely fail. The promise to Israel extends way beyond the river and the sea. But to understand that, you will have to refer to the bible.
Its a historic catchy tune that perfectly describes the motherland of Palestinians that was content and peaceful before manufactured Israel created. Before 1948, Palestinians, Christians and Jews lived relatively peacefully together.
of course palestinian life is of equal value to israeli life~everyone knows this~how can our congressmen who censored talib be so ignorant>truly apalling!
UK has no right to give the land the Jews Uk managed to win the war against the Ottoman who controlled most lands in Middle East. British promised the Grandmfather of King Jordan to become ruler if whole of the kand that was occupied by the Ottoman Empire. There was no boundaries in this vast area. King of Jordan grandfather betrayed the Arabs. It was a sad day for the Arabs when oil was prospected in That peninsular.Britain was dtermined to have a colony in it and thats how Jews came to settle in Palestine. The Jews and Palestines lived oeacefully. If you. See photoes of the Jews and Arabs they are similar to each other Genocides befan as early as 1929 the zionists started attacking the arabs and stealing the land and home
Just say it Vijay. I know you're a nice guy and don't want to say it but say it - where does the lack of moral equivalence come from,? It must come from the deep-seated racist ideology prevalent in the West. Black and brown lives do not mayyer as much
What the man was trying to tell you, same as the author of the academic paper he was referring to, was that it is terrifying thought that the oppressed dares to envisage and or undertakes atrocities and acts of violence against their oppressors. You were too busy trying to conform to the exegesis and axiology and standards of the epistemology and sociology of education and academic disciplines of the oppressors to comprehend the root source of the narrative. This is the prison that almost all western trained scholars and thinkers whom have to justify their western endowned qualifications or have their livelihood dependent upon western societies have fashioned and boxed themselves into. What’s wrong with you Vijay? Have you totally lost the capacity to apply your organic cultural axioms in thought and scholarship?!
Can you blame the Palestinians to want to have their land back from the river to the sea? After all, Israel came to be through murder and terrorism in 1948.
“From the river to the sea” could mean I want marshmallows for lunch, but it is actions that matter. I think Palestine showed us what they have planned for Israel on October 7. He is a fine talker though.
