For some reason, ALOT of reactors don’t watch this with subtitles, which lessens the reaction in my opinion. The music itself is freaking awesome but when ya know what they’re singing it takes the song to a completely different level

It’s almost as if they don’t know they need to ;). And when you figure it out… it’s too late. Also… I like to see if I can figure out the meaning by how well the artist conveys the emotion and the video tells the story.

@@VikingReacts very true. I was fortunate that I’d already been watching foreign language videos by the time The Hu showed up on my feed and knew to turn on CC. You don’t know what you don’t know. Sometimes all you need is a nudge. Many of Dimash videos have subtitles by the way.

The energy doesn’t go into crescendo the whole song through and feels kinda flat in my opinion. It “only” has some discrete build up. The tekst is a real buildup though, and the music needs to be just intimidating to complement the “smokes and mirrors”. Understanding the text make the song go level up in my opinion

I feel like the first listen should be without subtitles, then to go back with the subtitles. The song itself just has this primal, somehow ancient mysticism to it that just pulls you in even without the subtitles, and then knowing the lyrics after pulls you in deeper. In saying that, I don’t begrudge anyone on their choice of how to listen or react to music be it in their native tongue or music from a different voice. 😊

I actually prefer it without subtitles. For some reason a lot of the meanings probably gets lost in translation when they start talking about elephants and tigers. Probably sounds cooler in Mongolian. I’ve had plenty of instances when knowing the words of the lyrics actually made me like it less for foreign songs. Like in my mind they were singing about something completely different.

Just stuff I read. Mongolia was never conquered. It’s the most sparsely populated country. 30% of the people are nomadic. One of the bikers is/was the president of Mongolia. Genghis Kahn took over more territory than anyone ever. If you joined them you were protected by their reputation. If not, you died.

Nice reaction, now I’ll give you information. “The Wolf Totem” is actually from a 12th century Mongolian poem that the HU shortened and put to music. The “XXL Violin” (as you called it) is the Morin Khuur (Horse Head Fiddle), it has 2 “strings” that (traditionally) are made from the tail hairs from a horse (traditionally the hairs must come from the player’s own horse to bind player to instrument and vice versa), the “Male” string has 150 hairs and the “Female” string has 130 hairs. The “guitar” is actually a Tovshuur (Mongolian Lute) and only has 3 strings.

It's very sad that a symbol with an entirely different meaning has been tarnished like that but it's totally fair for the West to hate the symbol. It's just a sad fact now that in western nations the only meaning it carries is suffering and death. I can't speak for others but I can say that the times I have seen it in the USA it's generally easy to tell for me if it's a "good" swastika. It's usually on a keychain or something else of a clearly Asian design and is generally carried by someone who looks like they come from a more eastern nation.

The Hu are fantastic live. I saw them in my home town in the southern US. Nobody understood the language, but that didn't keep The Hu from packing the house and thrilling all who came. Especially impactful for me was their song "Black Thunder", which at one time had 6 guys on stage throat singing together. The original 2 part music video is worth watching, very much a blockbuster movie type production. Others to check out are "The Song of Women" with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, "Shireg, Shireg" live in studio, and their latest "Mother Nature" ft. LP. The last 3 are of their more gentle side, beautiful stuff. The gentlemen in the band are wonderful souls, and The Hu were named by Unesco as an "Artist for Peace", the first metal band with that distinction.

Hu are amazing. The version of this song with Papa Roach is good, Sad But True, Song of Woman I think is my favourite though. Seeing the Hu as children with their mothers is just so touching and sweet. It helps that half the song is performed in English so I can understand it without subtitles yet still enjoy their amazing sound. Do not forget the song is about "You come at me and we will kick your ass no matter how strong you are, how fast or what you think you are a master of. We are stronger , faster and are true masters." They use animals "come as *, we will #." The natural preditor, higher on the food chain.

This is the official Video, so I presume the subtitles would give you the lyrics as they want them presented. Listen again with them turned on. There are several slightly different versions of Lyric translation if you search the interweb. I think the following is poassibly the closest : If lions come, we'll fight until the end If tigers come, we'll fight and battle If elephants come, we'll fight in rage If humans come, we'll fight and obliterate We, If lions come, we'll fight until the end If tigers come, we'll fight and battle If elephants come, we'll fight in rage If humans come, we'll fight and obliterate If you come as snakes, we'll become Garuda birds and fly over you If you come as tigers, we'll face you as Lions with blue mane HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU If you come with evil intentions, we'll give you a fight! Ten of us will strike you as thunder Hundred of us will shatter your hearts Thousand of us will destroy and obliterate Ten thousand of us will hand you the wrath of heaven! If you come as flood, we'll fight until the death If you come swarming, we'll scatter you around If you come flying, we'll shoot you down with our archeries If you come charging, we'll slice you with our swords HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU Let's cut through them as speed of flying falcons Let's burn within as the hearts of wolves! Let's stampede with our horses Let's defeat them with the wisdom of our Great Khaan, Chinggis! HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU

Wolf totem is my favorite song! Though, I can't sing all of it quite yet as I am still learning the language. The morin khuur (horse-headed fiddle) is indeed the traditional stringed instrument from Mongolia, and has a cool creation story. The "evil" talking part is one of my favorite phrases in the song "Provoked, the snow leopard competes with it's rivals" it basically means "if you come for a fight, we will give you one" with the subtext of "we will not lose." *I am writing this from Mongolia and currently learning to throat-sing myself.

The horseman at the beginning holds the Khar Suld, the Black Banner of War of Gengis Khan's armies. Gengis Khan, meaning the Universal Ruler, is viewed a national hero in Mongolia. Basically, the lyrics say that whatever form the enemy takes, human, animal or supernatural, their people will stand, fight and blow them into smithereens. I think traditional throat singing goes very well with Metal! "With the speed of the Falcon advancing The Wolf's courage flaring up The strenght of the horses' hooves, their paces pounding The mark of Gengis Khan, a sight to behold!"

They basically constantly sing with throat singing, but you maybe don’t hear clearly. There’s always more than one “voice”, because throat singing adds a second voice, but an octave higher, which creates that unique sound. Then, at least three of them do it, so they add harmonies on top of the throat singing. It’s quite impressive, especially withe those traditional instruments added in. No, they don’t sing things you can “understand”, because they sing in Mongolian! You gotta use the subtitles, dude.

@@VikingReacts The Hu have two versions of Song of Woman. The original gives you the lyrics right in the video, no need for subtitles. The video for that is special.
