@@ChrisK312 Exactly, i mean, it could be a very satisfying stomp battle, but it's not nessecary. I love action, fights, battles etc, but i don't need to see what happend here. My mind does it on it's own.
In my top 3 for sure. Ecbert's "I would sup with the devil if he would show me how to achieve my earthly goals" is another favorite of mine. The third that comes to my mind is the power monologue... It corrupts the best and attracts the worst.
I'll never get tired of watching Aelle crap his pants when he sees the size of the great heathen army. And Floki striding into the battlefield looking like a badass. Also fun fact: the rune in Floki's head is the T-rune, a sacred symbol of the god Tyr. To achive victory in combat vikings believed one had to "mention Tyr twice" and carve victory runes. This is generally assumed as writing the "T"-rune twice like we see on Floki's forehead.
The single upward arrow is the rune of Tyr, the nordic god of war, but the nazis used it aswell so sadly that rune is considered a nazi symbol. And that's why i think the production altered the rune a little bit.
@@gabifromhell That's true that the nazis sadly used the T-rune. But multiple tiwaz runes (name of the T-rune) have appeared both in Germanic and Nordic paganism. A good example of a multiple tiwaz rune is found in the Lindholm amulet (dated to the 2nd to 4th centuries). The three consecutive Tiwaz runes are seen as an invocation of the god Tyr. Calling Tyr twice is also mentioned in the Poetic Edda.
I like to imagine that woman king herald wanted to marry gave him a very sarcastic answer ''maybe if you were king of all norway'' and he took it way too seriously lol like Lloyd from dumb and dumber ''So... you're telling me theres a chance''
No need to imagine they explain that in the show. She admits she gave him an impossible task because she didn’t think he would do it and he took it seriously
Eckbert was able to manipulate Athelwulf his entire life, lie to his face again and again, but in the end he couldn't even to manage to lie and tell his son he loved him.
It's interesting how Eckbert is unable to really show love for his own DNA Aethelwulf and Aethelred while caring so much for others like Judith, Alfred, Athelstan and even Ragnar
"How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered." I get chills at the end every time. It feels like Ragnar's spirit is whispering in my ears. The music/soundtracks in Vikings are phenomenal.
@@Bluebelle51 Had the same problem when I first tried it. I tried it again a year later and I powered through, then I got completely addicted. The first season is a little slow, but it gets better every season, except the last season. It was rushed and they wanted to do too much in 6 episodes. It just didn't work and had a shit ton of mistakes and things that didn't make sense, which is really a crying shame because the first 6 seasons were amazing, especially season 6. Season 7 was good too imo, but not compared to season 6. Season 8 was just a huge let down for most people.
@@MetroVerse I may give it a second shot, I'm in the middle of Black Sails now I wish they would react to that show, I was blown away the first time I saw it, (years ago) and it holds up on a second watch too I don't watch a lot of tv, maybe an episode of something a day so when I get through Black Sails, I'll give it another go
Think how much of a badass jarl borg was, he didn't die until the whole process was done and didn't let out a single scream or sign of fear or weakness, he took the punishment as a test of the gods to determine whether he was worthy of Valhalla. He was a great character.
King Aelle's great surprise was he had more than enough troops to handle any of the previous viking raids 4-5 times over. He was quite confident in the size of the army he raised. Once the Sons of Lothbrok took to the field -- it was at this moment King Aelle realized that in all those previous raids, the vikings had been merely toying with him. ... and Lo did the King's brown pants fill that day. Please do not search for it due to spoilers but "The Great Heathen Army" was a serious invasion that began AD 865. Don't mess with the Sons of Lothbrok !
I'm missing the part where Aelle says and bags about his life "how much gold and silver you want to spare my life, anything! Anything!" and ivar responded "our Father was far more worth than gold and silver, that is not the price you are going to pay" that was great! I also miss the part where the Bishop next to Aelle on the battlefield says to him "may god help us" and King Aelle responds to him and says "I don't think he can" also very great!! :O :D
I remember watching this episode and being so disappointed that we didn't get to see the battle, but now I realize it wasn't about the battle. It was the revenge against Aelle that was so important to show. And that scene was done very very well.
I think that in this very moment in time it's the most logical sense that Bjorn be the one who leads the army because of his experience in battle. But I do get where Ivar is coming from. He was the one who stood by Ragnar's side when he was at his lowest and even witness the Saxons brutally beat him. Not to mention that he delivered the message on whom to exact revenge on but also Ragnar basically told him he wanted him to lead.
I have watched you guys through "Game of Thrones" and now "Vikings" and I find your reactions genuine. Keep up the good work much love from Australia! 😁😁😁😁
We move from King Aelle to King Eckbert and Aethelwulf. RAAAAGGNARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! What a glorious battlecry in honor of the greatest viking that ever lived. King Ragnar Lothbrok!
Although no one really wants to agree with someone getting killed by an arrow in the back. It is so out of character for Lagatha not to face her opponents. I believe she shot her in the back because she felt she had been back stabbed. It was very deliberate.
The battle was supposed to be so savage they didn't even have to show it. That ending shot when all of Ragnar's sons look on at the Blood Eagle gives me chills for some reason. I think Alexander Ludwig who plays Bjorn did some of his best acting in this half of season 4. The differences in how they go about the Blood Eagle are apparent. Ragnar was calm and composed but it's because he still respected Jarl Borg. I think Bjorn was holding in a lot and he lost his temper so Aelle ended up dying before it was over but I don't think Bjorn cared, this was purely for revenge and it's not like they believed Aelle would get into Valhalla.
Between Steven talking about stabing and the shot with all the army, the cries, the blood eagle etc this episode is just dope omg one the best moment of Vikings
All the sons have different reactions to the blood eagle scene. By this point they already have shown a bit of how each one inherits a different aspect of their father. Bjorn I think also has a bit of Lagertha's personality.
When Aelle heard there was a great army coming, he dismissed it because thought they could defeat them. Armies in that time generally consisted of a few hundred men, it was very difficult to provide food and provisions for a large force. So the sight of thousands of men, bent on revenge must have been horrifying. I quite like that they didn't show the "battle." It showed just how insignificant Aelle's forces were. Plus it gave us more time to watch the old boar suffer!
For how screwed up it his, it's pretty dang fascinating how much Halfdan and Harald have so much of a bro connection that he's behind him right away giving him the knife...It's like he already knows what's up
Towards the end, you can tell he does. The music drives the scene and we don't hear the actors. The difference is Ragnar was more surgical with it while Bjorn was straight brutal and just hacked up Aelle.
I think i should point out that there were no castles in England at this time period just forts at most, The castles were not built till after the Normans arrived.
That ceremonial sword is actually a falcata, originally used by Iberian tribes (ancient Spain). Because of its shape, it was very effective against armor. Ancient Greeks had a very similar looking sword called a kopis. You can see it a few times in Oliver Stone's Alexander film from 2004.
and that is History. Real History. but yeah now you have 10,000 heathens in northen england guess what happens now. Also Steven and Both getting stabbed LOL
Queen Aelle definitely deserved the blood eagle, only Björn should have taken it slower, suffering himself if Ivar had done it, he would have made him suffer even more before he died.
They don't use that sacrificial sword in battle because it's a ceremonial sword, some sources indicate that it should only be used for sacrificial purposes and christian's weren't worthy of being killed by it
I have been waiting for you guys to see this episode. Also I loved when Steven said, " you don't want to meet them in an open feild". Vikings the new Dothraki. Lol
I read a decent amount of history. Whenever I,come, across something horrific I remind myself of an old quote. I think it was thucydides - "the strong did/do what they can and the weak suffer what they must" 😞.
