Even though she didn't get many medals, I still think she is one of the best gymnasts Russia had. She is clean, beautiful, makes everything look easily done. Her only problem was on Vault, but her Beam and Bars were the best
Aliya was the best because she had mental toughness as well as fantastic skills. She overcame what usually ends up being career ending to win FOUR medals, one of them gold. Komova had the big skills, the elegance- but not the mental fortitude.

Imagine how successful she would have been had she been more consistent with a mentality like kyla ross, simone biles, r laurie hernandez ..she reminds me of rebecca bross ...talented, nice skills, but never consistent and ruined so many oppurtunities to win medals , on bars and beam in london, the AA gold, 2011 AA gold, 2011 beam medal..2015 beam medal etc..
On paper she definitely was. Unfortunately it’s what you execute in the moment it matters most that reveals who is truly best. She was close, but not quite. Still an excellent gymnast though!
I think by event finals it was a couple of things- fatigue from doing gymnastics in such a pressure situation for so many days and disappointment in previous competitions entering into her psyche.
Man she’s my favorite gymnast aside from Simone and Christine Peng Peng Lee. I wish Viktoria would come to the states and do college gymnastics. Now that would be amazing to see!

I agree, the BBC commentators are fabulous. There are actually three people here - Christine Still, Matt Baker, and Mitch Fenner. Mitch unfortunately died of cancer a few months before the Rio olympics and never got to see the big British success at the games
When Komova hits I think her dismount is better than Raisman’s . Patterson always landed in a clear squat so you knew it was an Arabian and her leg muscles held her up enough to not take it to a deep squat. With Aly I feel like she doesn’t hold her form long enough? Idk 🤷♀️ but she lands almost standing always with a big hop. She is consistent...yes, but Komova’s gymnastics is gorgeous! Ultimately I feel her coaches set her up for failure and did her a major disservice! It’s so sad they couldn’t better mentally prepare her😔 Because being a champion... an Olympic gymnast, is so much more than being perfect for 1 day of competition, it’s about showing you are the best time and time again! It’s about stamina and being able to demonstrate why and show that you are the best whenever you are called on to prove yourself. No one expects anyone to be perfect all the time but if you can’t be consistent then you can’t be counted on and you are basically a wild card. With that said... the medals she received are the ones she rightfully earned!
Well, she didnt do her best in the AA, maroney fell, and sui lui basically got unlucky, imdont wanna say she was robbed but i really believe the world champion curse strikes again Because jordyn weiber who won the AA in 2011 didnt qualify in 2012, sui lui won beam in 2011 but didnt win it in 2012, ,mckayla won vault in 2011 but didnt, ksenia afanaseyeva took gold on floor in 2012, same thing didnt medal in 2012, bars it was komova and didnt medal in 2012

@@mariamolinos1050 Oh please!🙄 That has absolutely nothing to do with anything😡 It irks me to my core with the whole “she was robbed!” blah blah blah... “she should have won the AA” uhhhh NO! “She COULD have won” 🤦♀️ Those statements by default discredit Douglas’s deserved gold medal. The fact that Gabby managed to knock the reigning World Champion out of the chance to even compete in the All Around... The fact no one considered her to even fill the 2nd spot in the AA... It says so much about her and how hard she trained specifically for the Olympics. There should be zero doubt in anyone’s mind how hard she worked to be where she was at... it showed just how seriously she took the once in a lifetime opportunity to even be at the Olympics by putting in work and being determined and dedicated to being the best she could be. Don’t get me wrong... IMO when Viktoria Komova hits she’s perfect and could beat any gymnast! She’s beautiful! BUT... that just wasn’t the case. TBH... that was rarely the case.
Doesn't matter if the judging system classed her as having not won. The judging system often awards points to robots rather than artistic balletic art. She won the ❤s of many
I always didn‘t got how Vika got such high beam scores in the Olympics.I always would‘ve given her an 8.5-8.2 E-Score and she always got a way higher ohne but how?
