Amongst the many culinary traditions that prevail in this state, an interesting one is that of Maratha-Karnataka fare. A cuisine that took birth a few hundred years ago when Marathas migrated to Karnataka and settled into the local culture and practices of the land. Over time, their food evolved to assimilate local produce and ingredients. Many of the ‘military’ eateries in and around Bengaluru trace their roots to this style of cooking, although the offerings of some have morphed beyond recognition. To find examples of this unique fare that is comparatively true to its origin, one has to travel a bit out of the city. Like this 70-year-old eating house that we discovered in Malur, a town located 50 kilometres from Bengaluru. Where rustic meaty preparations are cooked with home made masalas over wood-fired stoves.

That is my uncle on the bill countet ,its my dads hotel and his name ie the owner name is Jahanntha Rao Ghorpade .We speak bangalore Marathi :) so none of them ther understood what u spoke . The photo in the hotel is my granddads Venkoba rao. Sir next time pls give proper credit and right details of the owner ,or may be inform before hand that you would come . We are not from Kanakapura it's my uncle's family he spoke about ,probbaly he was nervous seeing cam .We are from Malur and Bangalore

Would love to eat there, despite the owner's slightly impolite attitude. Hats off to Kripal to not let that affect him even a bit. He was as usual polite, enthusiastic and just happy to be there tasting the delicious food..

First time ,i felt the owner was keen on kripal sir finishing off early and too happy to say thankyou bye bye....😂...But anyway ,many of the old world eateries have this kind of straightforward, no nonsense approach, which the ambience seeking newer generations may feel a bit hard to digest....

I won't like to be disturbed or told to hurry in the middle of my meal. If someone tells beforehand or if there is some notice like 15/20 min seating, then I won't mind. But asking to hurry up in the middle of meal is irritating and not so polite. Very humble of Kripal Sir to take in the spirit that he did. I feel the next customers should have been just allowed to join around Kripal Sir on same table.

Kriapal Sir, as usual the great food vlog. As a Maharashtrian, I am really delighted to see the confluence of Marathi and Kannada food culture. The leaf plate which you were eating on is called patrawal (पत्रावळ) in Maharashtra and it is rarely sold over here now due to encroachment of thermocol or hard paper plate. You must have relished the food on leaf plate. I am. saluting you for your politeness and tenacity in this video. Thanks you Sir !!

This is Naati style mandya/Bengaluru style non veg food, prepared across souhthern karnataka , many maratha families may have started non veg hotel businesses 100 years back as natives were mainly into other professions

Finally Kripal reached. A very Nostalgic feeling for all the Maluru people when we hear this hotel name. Even though the taste and quality has come down for what I use to eat 20years back and now at this place ,still it’s a place to recommend. Great work @Kripal @foodloverstv

You actually need to try the home made Keema unde from a local from there, Malur is actually famous for keema unde. They have a unique style of preparing it.

Good evening dear Kripal - I was wondering where is this eatery when you posed the question on the Social media . The history of this eatery has a rich Maratha heritage for over 7 decades . Loved the way you communicated with the current owner in Marathi . The kitchen tour was short but provided a wonderful idea on things to come . Now time to indulge in the delectable dishes . That’s an elaborate spread on your table . The Ragi Mudde with the Green Chutney was a wonderful bite . The Khaima looks super soft in texture and the taste profile that you reviewed . Phenomenal articulation on the green chilli and red chilli’s presence in the dish . Wow they also provide you a Rasam glass . The meat dishes are so well prepared and that’s the reason that it’s a popular eatery for the the past several decades . A busy person like you always prefers a Bisi Bisi dish as a complement to the rice . Your expression says it all on how much you liked each of the dishes . I am happy if you are super happy . It was a practical gesture by the owner to hurry you up as it was getting crowded. This was a top notch Vlog and I thoroughly enjoyed every frame of the Vlog .
