I heard that Moscow and St Petersburg were "storefront cities." They are always clean and pretty to show the world. And other cities are less so. Fryazino looks nice. Although I wish the leak could be fixed if it's not and the results of the week could be fixed. I mean it's not your fault if the apartment's not fixed. If it was your house it would be fixed. Your dacha looks nice. I am sure that anything that Alex makes looks nice and works well. I haven't watched the part about the flea market yet Although I think I've already been there with someone else... been a little busy with the ducklings and then last night I fell asleep so early and I woke up at midnight and I was awake for hours and then I fell asleep again and overslept... And then I had some strange dreams The subway was really clean though. I mean the subway cars were really clean. Like I wouldn't be afraid to sit on them. I can't save that is the same in Boston. I don't remember.

I think it's great for children to go to summer camps. If the school is credible with good reviews... And children have the opportunity, they can learn so much and have a wonderful time doing so. I'm sure in most cities world wide not every public area is clear of trash/litter....but watching utube and other travel channels I am ashamed to say the U.S. has a serious problem. We need to take note of other places. Thank you for sharing your trip😊..God bless

Sadly this won't change until we change our willingness to accept things as they are with every city quickly becoming a trash heap and breeding grounds to disease, drugs and violence. When our society is accepting of a 'blame the other group' and 'the right to live anywhere and anyhow one wants' there is little hope of change. We allow people to live in squaller on the streets and call it a 'right to live that way' and think they will bring themselves out of it but that is a very slipperly slope into an early grave. We need hope in our society to improve things. Sorry for the rant but I noticed the same on the video.

When I was a little kid we lived in the suburbs of Boston and I never went to summer camp but, we had parks and recreation in the summer. We had a program that was at our school but it was outdoors. In the morning they would do sports and in the afternoon they would do crafts. So mostly my mother didn't make me go in the morning cuz I'm no good at sports, but sometimes she made me go in the afternoon. And like you said they have day trips. One time we went to Fenway Park and that was boring because I didn't know it was going on. I don't know how old I was then but I don't remember there being an announcer to tell us what was going on so I just sat there in my seat and I watched the Citgo Sign. Later on when I was older in the '70s they turned the citgo sign off because of the energy crisis. And then when I was working at John Hancock in the '80s They turned it back on. And also the light in the spire at the top of the John Hancock building that I worked in. They had that turned off for a while but they turned it back on while I was working there. So if you ever see it on TV on Red Sox games or maybe they showed it, I saw it for a second the other night on the Boston pops fireworks show. It blinks in different colors And there is a poem to tell what the colors mean because they only have two colors. The other time we went to duxbury Beach. And I got a sunburn because we were at the beach all day. I don't like the beach either but I'm sure my mother wanted me to get out of the house :-). And when I came home she said that there had been a flood in our kitchen. I guess it was the sink. I should write these things down in some one place. No one will remember them when I die but maybe my brother doesn't care. My mother used to tell me all the time, stories from when she was a kid and she said that she wrote them down, but she didn't write a whole lot. And now I am sorry that she didn't write more. Most of the stories that she told me She didn't write them down. Sorry for the random capitalization. Every time I pause this thing starts capitalizing again. One day my mother sent me to Parks and recreation. It was at our school like I said so I could walk there. Kids in my country they don't walk to school anymore mostly. The reasons are complicated. But I always used to walk to school. Except when the lady who was the crossing guard for the school across from my house would give me a ride. Because my mother didn't drive and she didn't have a car and my father worked in the city. So I either walked or got a ride from the crossing guard lady. So one day my mother sent me off to go to Parks and recreation and instead I stopped at a friend's house and stayed over at her house and we were coloring. And then I went home. And I got in trouble because I didn't go to Parks and rec. And that's all I remember about that. We used to make things out of plaster of Paris and paint them and sometimes we would make pot holders with a little loom made out of plastic. And I guess we must have done tie-dying and batik because where else would I have learned these things? And now that's really all I remember. I learned how to do those crafts and I would bring them home and then my mother and I would do them together. And sometimes she would sew clothing for me or for my dolls and sometimes I would sew although I wasn't really good at it, and two times when I was putting in a zipper I ran the needle through my finger. And then I had to unwind it to get it out. And the second time I put it through my fingernail. So mostly I don't use the sewing machine. I've never had a good one. My father got me one from my aunt but the tension didn't work and I didn't know how to fix it. And then my mother got me one from somewhere and it had the same problem. But one time I borrowed my aunt's. And I made some curtains and I sewed some sheets together to make a duvet cover for my bed and I sewed some sheets to make pillowcases because we couldn't afford the real ones. And it was really pretty although probably not in a straight line because I'm not good at that. But it lasted about 23 years until I ripped the bottom sheet. And then I gave the sewing machine back to my aunt. I shouldn't have bothered. She didn't ask for it. She didn't use it. And 10 years later she died. So I probably should have kept it. It was the only good one I ever used. But it was nice that she let me borrow it. And then she gave me her portable dishwasher because she never used it. And we never had a dishwasher in our house. And when I moved to Florida I took it with me. And we still have it. I'm sure it has to die sometime. I think it's from 1996. But we keep hoping it won't die. :-) The company that made it is dead. Anyway it sounds like you're going to go in the subway so that sounds fun. It's the middle of the night here and I fell asleep early and then I woke up and I hate it when that happens. I have to get up early because we have new ducklings and we don't have any way to get them from their sleeping place to their daytime place yet because they are too small and they would run through the fence in our yard. We have to fix the rest of the fences. Well my roommate is fixing them but not until Sunday. He spent 2 days the last 2 days just making their cage again so that they could have a place to sleep in the duck house and the big ducks wouldn't attack them. Although their father is really nice and he doesn't seem to attack the babies, it's better to keep them safe in their little cage. So he was fixing that. And it's been really really hot outside it's not usually this hot this early in Florida and usually there's a breeze and not so much humidity not like in Orlando where it's really really hot. But this year it's been hot for a week or maybe I've just been outside more than usual because of the ducklings? I will probably watch the rest of this during the day. When I can tear myself away from the ducklings. :-) should be easy. I have an air conditioner in my bedroom.

I have followed the Russian space program for years, ever since our astronauts began launching on the Soyuz to the International Space Station, (following the retirement of the Space Shuttle.) The accomplishments by both of our nations, along with those of the other international partners, have been great. I began studying the Russian language with the hope I would one day get to visit Russia, and tour the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. I would have also liked to have visited Rybinsk, and the ski resort at Podolino. Of course our space programs continue to work together, but once again, politicians, like politicians the world over, are forever screwing things up. I hope one day soon, all of these conflicts will be resolved so that everyone can get back to a normal existence. Until then, I will enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for being my eyes and ears in a place I would surely love to visit. (I sent you a little gift through Paypal. Hope you get it okay!)

What time did you started to travel? Were you close to the red square? I watched 'Svetlana from Russia' yesterday. Not sure when it was filmed. They went to St Petersburg to watch fireworks and a boat. We hardly have railway lines for daily users, living outside cities but work in the cities. The steel tracks are being cut and sold as scrap metal. The electricity wires on top are also cut, stripped of the plastic and the copper inside also sold to scrap metal companies at a very high price. Both items are illegal and many scrap metal companies are taken to court almost daily. This started about 8 years ago. We had the most corrupt President then. Then the taxi operators found they're making more money. these taxis is like mini buses. I think they carry about 10 to 12 people. It's extremely difficult to root out the corruption once its settled. (Ashamed to say I'm from South Africa) Corruption is everywhere! Hospitals and other state owned entities. The majority citizens are black. It's extremely difficult for our white children to get a job. They qualify in trades at own cost, work for a company for free to obtain the practical experience, they write the trade exams and then they find jobs in other countries. Same with University students. They study for their honors degree and then they're gone.

Some of the ugliest and "pale" stations of the Moscow metro. They appeared during the reign of N.S. Khrushchev. How and who came up with a typical platform project? In what ways could such a station be decorated? And why do we owe the return of artistic expression in the subway to the 1905 revolution? I will tell you about this and not only today. Stripped-down "Stalinki" N.S. Khrushchev did not criticize the architecture of the existing Moscow Metro stations in his speeches. But everyone understood that the turn would come. Starting in 1955, platforms that were designed before the famous decree "On the elimination of excesses in design and construction" continued to open. However, the decor of these stations has been slightly changed compared to the original projects. Scroll through the photos. One of the projects of the Rizhskaya station. For example, tiles of amber colors appeared on the "Riga" instead of marble. And at VDNKh, the ornament on the pylons was turned into green stripes. However, the question remained open: what should be the new platforms to please the rulers headed by N.S. Khrushchev? VDNKh Station, 1958-1959. Instead of green stripes, an ornament was planned. The problem was that then the main thing was the number of new stations, as well as how many kilometers of tracks were covered. Architecture was of little interest. First of all, we thought about the financial side of the issue. That is, about saving. Underground "twins" Then Metrostroy developed a standard design of the station during the Soviet thaw. It was invented by the architect Mikhail Markovsky under the strict guidance of his teacher Alexey Dushkin. They decided to divide the underground hall with two rows of columns. It was quite convenient for the passengers. The first "swallow" of the new "Khrushchev" metro was "Pervomayskaya". It was opened in 1961. Pervomayskaya station of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line. At first, the supports of standard stations were designed in increments of 4 meters. Over the years, the space has been increased to 6, and somewhere up to 6.5 meters (the station "Botanical Garden", for example). Due to the unusually large number of columns, the platforms were popularly nicknamed "centipedes". Of course, there was no flight of architectural thought to be expected. There was simply nowhere for the builders to turn around. All the stations looked like one another, like twins. It was allowed only to change the shape of the columns (to square or octahedral). And also choose a tile from several colors. Just scroll through the photos and see how much everything is the same. Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad station, 1970-1973. Marble was still used in the decoration of deep-laying stations. But there were only 5 types of it, and the cheapest ones. For comparison, during the construction of stations in the 1930s and 1950s, there were more than 20 options. Marble cladding of pylons at the Frunzenskaya station, 1956-1957. Saving sidewalks The ground lobbies were abandoned altogether. It was believed that the intensity of pedestrian traffic increased. Therefore, it is better not to occupy a "precious" place on the sidewalks. And to build exits into underground passages. One of the exits of the Akademicheskaya station, 1962. It's amazing how in such an environment it was still possible to erect several pavilions. For example, for the Oktyabrskaya station (Kaluga-Riga line). During the time of L.I. Brezhnev, the situation changed a little. The General Secretary didn't really care about the metro, so the architects got a little more freedom. The lobby of the Oktyabrskaya station (Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya) - opened in 1962, photo 1982-1984. In the late 1960s, officials realized that it was still desirable for passengers to somehow distinguish one station from another. Therefore, it was allowed to use visual means in the form of separate inserts. Later, the executive committee of the "Mossovet" gave the go-ahead to increase the artistic expressiveness of the stations. Revolution is the engine of art But all these were trifles. Serious changes were achieved only after the opening of the station "Barricadnaya". Thanks to the revolutionary theme, the platform at that time turned out to be simply pompous. Firstly, pink marble. Secondly, it has its own ground lobby. Yes, it was not as chic as the stations of the Ring Line. But artistic means were still present there. For example, a relief that depicted revolutionaries dying but not surrendering on the barricades in 1905. Platform and ground vestibule of the station "Barricadnaya", 1972. The city authorities liked the project. The process of approving new original stations of the Moscow Metro has become easier. However, this is another story that I will tell some other time. That's all for today! Thank you for reading to the end:)

That mini bus is a nice idea. We don't have those in my part of the USA. Well, we do have them for the handicapped and elderly. But our city buses are full size. That subway runs above ground too? I've never been on one but isn't that a little unusual? They must have an elevator for the handicapped people to get down into the metro/subway?? I like this little longer video! Thank you. When is the next live?

Yes. The lack of disabled access (not just for people in wheelchairs, but for those who cannot negotiate the stairs) in the Moscow Metro system is a shame. I wonder what has been done in terms of ground transportation to help such people?

Who told you that there are no ramps and elevators in the Moscow Metro? All repaired and new stations are fully provided with everything necessary for access for the disabled. The Moscow metro is huge and it takes time to modernize all stations.

Brilliant! Thank you for showing the trip in the Marshrutka. I always wondered how it would be like travelling inside one! Who collects the money? Is payment cash only? Does it stop anywhere you want? Or only at designated stops and so on... Good thing the troika card, tidy and a money saver. Looking forward to the rest of the vlog.

the minibus driver accepts payment in cash, by card, or you can transfer money from your bank to his account via a smartphone app. You can only stop in strictly designated areas, but sometimes drivers violate these rules.

Are the children having their summer holidays. This is when we have holiday programmes for children to attend if their parents work. Thanks for a great video, I travelled on the underground back in 1999. The stations were clean and very elaborate. Moscow has expanded and developed so much since them, so many Skyrisers now. There were babuskas asking if we wanted accommodation. .
