I'm about as big as that guy, maybe a bit shorter, and never have I been called a bodybuilder. Thank you sirs, my day has been made Edit: after watching the whole thing, I believe some explanation as to the basics of flight and controlling airplanes is needed here. There is no clutch, at least not in the sense they expect, and no gears or transmission in that sense either. I believe Babu Bhai was right on when he said "turn on fans", I believe he was speaking of the jet engines. I believe they would want correct information to go share with their families, such as explaining that the pedals are not for stopping and braking, but are actually called rudder pedals and are necessary for controlling the plane.

As someone who is trying to become an airline pilot, I clicked so fast. Also Airbus planes, like the one in this vid, having the steering on the side so they can steer with one hand.

Why not fly them with Spice Jet etc from Mumbai to Panaji, Goa. It wouldn't cost much. I took a friend of twenty years from Panjim to Delhi. His reaction to his first flight was staggering LOL. He asked if he could stand up and walk around lol

I have watched many of these videos, and these three guys never cease to amaze me. Very open-minded and curious. It's wonderful! And Babu, in particular, has so much common sense and wisdom. Open to things he's never seen or heard of before. I live in Los Angeles, California, USA, and I wish my friends and family were as open-minded and sensible as these three guys.

HOW DOES A PLANE TURN LEFT & RIGHT On the outer rear edge of each wing, the two ailerons move in opposite directions, up and down, decreasing lift on one wing while increasing it on the other. This causes the airplane to roll to the left or right. To turn the airplane, the pilot uses the ailerons to tilt the wings in the desired direction.

Hahaha I love how they relate the plane's controls with a car's controls. Gears for the throttle, brakes and clutch for the yaw. And the copilot's a conductor! It's a flying bus.

It made me sad when everyone said that they haven't even seen an airport let alone an aircraft. 😔 And my eyes were teared up when I heard Babu's wish to get a chance to just sit in an aircraft. 😢 They have such humble expectations in life which can make them happy. That is one thing I need to learn from these gentlemen.

Every inch of earth has co-ordinates, so they program the co-ordinates in the computer to steer the direction of the plane on auto-pilot. Only taking over the steering at certain times, and when landing they may need to circle the airfield.

This video put a tear in my eye. It makes one realize how easily one can take things for granted. I have flown many times. My first flight was when I was 11 and my Mum took me to Disneyland, California. I have flown back and forth across Canada, to the U.S. and to the Caribbean. My kids were in Air Cadets as teens. My eldest daughter, now 22, flew Gliders, and twice they let her control the tow-plane, a Cessna, when she was 16 and 17. My other two kids were only in Cadets for two yrs each, from age 12 to 14, so did not get to fly gliders as you have to be 16 and up to do so. I live in a place where the Snowbirds - the squadron of Canada's air demonstration team- practices every Spring. Babu would love it. We get a free air show. You can sit in a park near the Pacific ocean in Comox on Vancouver Island and watch them do manoeuvres for hours. Truly fabulous. In fact, you can see them from the parking lot of the store where I work. My favourite move was when they made a big heart in the air and had a plane pierce through it. The contrails stay for several seconds afterward. I am by no means wealthy, but I am rich, as these lovely fellows daily remind me. Were it in my power to do so, I'd arrange for all three to fly. I, myself, at age 18, once "drove"(it is really called 'running') a train for several hours while visiting a friend in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, who worked for CN Railway. That was a total thrill....

So great to see them get excited when the pilot takes off and lands. I'd like to add a few notes, as a fan of aviation. If you can, please share this with Raeen, Sarru, and Babu. Steering in some planes is done with a joystick on the side rather than a yoke; this plane uses joysticks (you can see the other pilot's joystick at 5:59 when the pilot is touching the throttle). That said, Raeen wasn't far off when he said that the pilots might be able to turn with buttons; autopilot can make turns for the pilot, and you set instructions for the autopilot with buttons. Sarru was right in mentioning that the pilot has brakes at his feet; however, there are more than just brakes down there. Airplanes also have yaw (left and right turning) controls in the form of foot pedals. The yoke or joystick is really only good for pitch (nose up/down) and roll (left and right tilting). All those buttons have a purpose. Airplanes nowadays are complex machines. There are buttons, switches, and dials for everything from the radio to the landing gear to the fuel pumps. Babu made a good point when he said that it's not easy to fix a problem with a plane while flying. It's true, you can't get out and inspect the engines while in the sky. That's where Babu's second good point comes in: flying is indeed dangerous. There's always a risk of malfunction. The good news is, safety regulations have whittled that risk down by a significant amount. There's tons of checks in place to prevent accidents. However, accidents do still happen. For Babu's example (the one where he mentioned the motorcycle's carburetor), losing engine power isn't immediately disastrous in most planes. Airplane wings have enough surface area to allow the plane to glide for some distance. Commercial jets like the Airbus A320 can glide from cruising altitude (35,000 feet above sea level) for hundreds of miles. Another of the checks in place to prevent accidents is a book that's kept inside the plane. It's called the 'quick reference handbook'. For most problems, a pilot is instructed to look in the handbook; this ensures they always follow the recommended steps. For a few problems, a pilot must memorize the steps; such problems where a pilot must already know what to do are problems that develop quickly- too quickly for the pilot to open the handbook. The last thing I'll note is that the other person seen in the cockpit with the pilot who is filming is also a pilot. Bigger planes often require multiple pilots. Remember all those switches and buttons? It is indeed a lot for one person to handle. But with two people, the work can be split up. Typically, one pilot is 'pilot flying' (meaning that pilot is controlling the plane) while the other pilot is 'pilot monitoring' (meaning that pilot is keeping an eye on various gauges and listening to the radio). Long flights may even have four pilots, switching the pilots out during the flight so two can rest while two fly. That about covers it. Aviation is complex, and there's so much more to know, but it's okay to not know everything. Hopefully, the info I've shared helps satisfy the curiosity of these three.

My Grandfather who is 95 used to be a commercial pilot. He had the Chicago-Honolulu-Tokyo route. One of my uncles is also a pilot. It's a hard job, gone away from home a lot. You have to work holidays and weekends. Oftentimes they have to share accommodations with other pilots, especially when they are training and sometimes they end up in terrible hotels/motels.

In 8:50 he cant just slow down and stop. The landing path is so long because the plane is going so fast it has to gradually slow down once it lands and the plane stops then the plane will suffer a disaster. "Every form of reaction has its equal and opposite reaction"

For anyone else wondering where the "steering wheel" is, this video shows an Airbus plane. Airbus are operated by computer only, which is very different compared to Boeing and most other planes. That's why the main things shown in the video is just buttons -- Airbus can be thought of more like a self-driving car, where the pilot has very few direct inputs where what he is controlling is actually connected to parts of the plane that adjust travel speed or direction. Flying an Airbus is more like a real-life video game than a standard plane... in most cases, the only way an Airbus will do something is if the pilot's input matches what the plane's computer thinks is safe and reasonable given the stage of flight and flight envelope. (Mst other types of planes like Boeing operate with power-assisted direct controls like the steering wheel in a modern vehicle, rather than a digital input pad where motors and electrical controls fly the plane.)

Thanks again for a great video. What amazes me is the very subtle differences in the shapes of various aircraft. I've been watching documentaries on historical experimental military jets. To the layman's eye, two planes can look very similar, but have dramatically different performance characteristics. The details involved in a successful plane are mind boggling.

The one reading on the touchscreen was the "pilot monitoring", the other the "pilot flying". The PM takes care of all the technical and legal stuff so the PF can just fly. They often take turns on which role from flight to flight, or even on the same flight if it's a long one, so they can go to the restroom, get a sandwich, etc.

I have been flying since I was 2 years old so I sadly don't get that mythic wonder when I see aircraft like they do. It always brings a smile to my face seeing people get wide eyed when they see aircraft close up.Even the smaller 50 seaters surprise new fliers with their size. Working around and chatting with flight crews for a while this video didn't show much of their life and might have shared SSI (sensitive security information) about aircraft operation. bigger company pilots fly about 3 flights a day (obviously more if they are flying shorter regional ex. CLT-ATL and less for longer flights ex. JFK-HNL) and will normally spend about 4 days in hotels in various cities before returning to their base of operation for their days off.
