I just had a crazy idea: There are a few other RU-vid channels in which villagers from remote areas react to unfamiliar stuff. How would it be if _our_ Common Man Show villagers reacted to a video of one of those other channels, _especially_ if that video from the other channel shows a reaction to something _our_ villagers likewise reacted to before?

I worked for Vlasic some years ago. One line could put out 140,000 jars of pickles in an eight hour shift. We would have three lines running pickles, one line was dedicated to relish which could make 250,000 jars a shift, and a fifth line that would run either pickles or banana peppers in bulk containers for Subway and McDonald's. Sucked on the days we would run jalapenos as the spice, warmth, and moisture would spread all over the plant, you had to wear masks to breathe and do not touch your eyes before you washed your hands.

@@01DOGG01 Oh yes, it was the same there. It got friggen hot inside. I was across the street in the Tank Yard after my first year and we' watch the ambulances roll in almost daily to pick up heat stroke victims. It was hell to work on the floor in summer. @@panzerwolf494 worked in a place like that also. Mission Foods. It was always hotter inside, and on top of that you had to wear a full body suit over your existing clothing. No fans either. The worst experience though was in a Mercedes warehouse. It was during the bushfires in Australia and the entire city was blanketed with thick smoke. It was 45C (113F) and I'd been asking them for a fan for a couple of weeks already and hadn't got one. On top of that, my section started with 3 people and ended up with just me so I always had a large workload, non stop moving back and forth all day. I really wish the English translators would differentiate between “too big” and “too fast”, vs. “so big” and “so fast”. I see this mistake with a lot of their videos. It gives the wrong impression as if the guys are complaining that the factory is “too big” and working “too fast”, when they are actually in awe that it’s so big and working so fast.

@@RosesAndIvy Lots of languages have similar words for different things, and different words for similar things. It's the context that sets the exact meaning. A lot of youtube videos use automated translations, which are never 100% accurate. Every language also contains words with more than one meaning - and sometimes very subtle differences in meaning - which are often not translated correctly by either automatic or human translators. And, if the makers of this channel are actually doing their own translations, keep in mind that English is not their first language.

I agree with Babu Bhai, there is a fine balance to the benefit of machines. The machines make people free to do other things with their time, but the convenience is also sometimes at the cost of quality of the product (or loss of jobs). Many times, the end product tastes better when made by hand "the old fashioned way". My grandmother said it is "cooking with Love", no machine can make it just as good as a person, faster maybe, but not better! I Love to watch these guys; they remind me to enjoy life however it comes and this channel for showing me new things and these guys enjoying new things! *Blessed Be and Stay Well!* Greetings from the Upper Left, USA. What Babu said is correct -yes there is indeed still a person in those factories, actually many people, that work and help sort what the machines fail to sort correctly, help box things, add what is more fragile than what machinery can handle. And sometimes it's cheaper with a workforce than fully automate every single action since that'd require it's own machine as well that can break down ,need parts, etc.

Go to the village where they live. Sit down with them and eat the food they prepare and cook for you. I guarantee it will be some of the nicest things you've ever tasted. It's well and good having a machine that makes 1 million hotdog sausages an hour, but they are made from all the waste left overs from what the farmers did not use for themselves. I used to be a courier and once every 1 or 2 months i would deliver items to a Bangladeshi family. The father had recently died and there was just a mother and 5 children. The oldest was about 16 and he was incharge of the family business. The mother couldn't speak English very well but she'd always invite me in to eat food with the family. I tried explaining that I was on a schedule but she would say "you come come eat eat". Everytime I went there she would have a big plastic container full of curry and rice. It was so much nicer than anything you could ever buy from a shop or restaurant. Even when Christmas came, despite them all being Moslim, the family would give me presents. They were spiced sweet treats the oldest son told me. There was about 20 of them All different, all hand made, all individually, carefully wrapped up in coloured foil paper. I swear, hand on my heart, I've never tasted anything like that before.

Hah! I think Babu does awesomely for a man of both his age and his culture, he is so open minded and eager to see and learn. There are an awful lot of folks his age or younger who have grown up in the west (or any other fully modernized/developed country) and they can't handle all the advances/changes from when they were younger. I can't even imagine what all this content must mean to someone like Babu (or any of the other guys for that matter), it must be mind blowing. And yet much of what Babu says, much of his commentary on what he sees, as old-fashioned or outdated as it may seem, still rings true in the big picture of life, he is man of enough years and experiences that he has a solid understanding of how life works regardless of any lack of what we might consider modernity or sophistication.

Machines can certainly increase employment. It takes engineers, mechanics and operators to run machines. They all have to be trained to some degree. Perhaps some kind of administration is involved. This in turn increases productivity and allows for an increase in consumption and ultimately a larger profit. But, as anyone knows, you need to have money to make money.

@@cariaus3758 No most people in India would be surprised people eat pork. Although people are aware beef is eaten throughout the world, even though Hindus don't eat it. Pork is something neither Hindus nor Muslims consume. So I could imagine a villager being very surprised at the fact that it could be eaten.

Why would they be talking about what other places in the world eat? They are describing what they think they are seeing from the realm of their own understanding and the world in which they live (which is every bit as noteworthy as any other place in the world), and that's what makes this channel so interesting i.e. WE get to learn what things are like in THEIR world, WE get to see things through THEIR eyes (everything does not always have to be about US, there are so many other much more interesting things and people in the world). Where they live a huge segment of society would never eat beef, and an even huger segment of society would never eat pork, so depending on what their particular belief is they would never even think of pork or beef as food, they would only think of chicken, mutton, or fish. AS for showing them videos about all the dishes made with pork, they would probably be horrified - would you like to see all the dishes that are made from dogs?

Wonderful shows. A few suggestions: (1) Please translate any non-english terms. Especially food terms, it's meaningless to write "sanjipani" or "samosa", it might as well be gibberish. (2) I suspect they are saying "very large" or "very big", not "too big". "Too big" makes it sound like it is unappropriately large, they probably mean "very" or "larger than any I have ever seen".. (3) It would help if you would give them at least a small hint of what they are going to see, and the context, that would help them immensely, sometimes their guesses are so far off! (4) Some of the videos with short like 3 second glimpses, they snap over to the next video far too quickly for anyone to figure out what is going on and not enough time to comment on them. I know it's a bit of work but could you put in some 10-second pauses between the short video segments? It would help the guys and us too to interpret and understand. That's about all that is confusing, keep up the good work.
@wolfc8755
@wolfc8755 2 года назад
1)Those are the names of their foods, there is no translation. That would be like asking for a translation word for sushi, or spaghetti, or chow mein, or borscht, or tacos, or any other dish. There is no single word translation for these things, it would require a description of the dish that would be far too lengthy to put into the captions. You could look up all the words for their foods, though, if you really want to educate yourself about what they are. 2) We all know youtube interpretations are never going to be perfect, because automatic translators are never perfect, and English is not the native language of the folks running this channel either. So feel free to understand whatever is being said in any way you want to and/or makes you comfortable, and remember that everyone is doing the best they can with whatever tools they have. 3)As for "hints" about what they are going to see, the narrator always gives them a broad understanding of what they are about to see, and then WE get to see their take on it and that's part of the charm of this channel (hint, they are not here to conform to, or fit into, OUR way of seeing the world, we are here to see a little of the world and way of thinking where THEY come from - for example, we think we saw bacon because that is what we are familiar with, but they think it's mutton because that is what THEY are familiar with). 4) Yes, the videos move fast, the owners of the channel are just showing videos that they've found elsewhere (they don't put together the content themselves), but putting in 10 second pauses between every 3 second segment would drive viewers mad with ennui and then there would be TONS of complaints about THAT ( if something is too fast for you, you can always re-watch it OR change the settings to play the video at a slower speed).

@wolfc8755
@wolfc8755 2 года назад
@@georgegonzalez2476 My guess would be that many entirely different dishes could be called "rice noodles and spicy chicken bits", or "mixed veg" :-) These guys also always have a lot to say, and there's often a lot going on with more than one trying to talk at once, it's likely the captions have already been pared down as much as possible to try to cover as much as possible AND keep it readable in the very short amount of time before each caption disappears and is replaced by the next one. May I suggest you keep a paper and a pen handy when watching these videos so you can write down any words/foods you don't know as they come up on the screen, and then google them afterwards for full descriptions (AND pictures, maybe even recipes, etc), yum! :-)

You don't need this channel to stop what they are doing so they can teach you language skills, you can look up that stuff yourself, any time you want to. Google an online translator for any words you want to know, and google how to pronounce them. There's probably even some kind of free, online language course that covers such basics.
