Kagetsu is/was simply the best. One of my favourite matches was were she felt so invincible that she claimed she would defeat her opponent in under 5 minutes, and proposed a timelimit and in case of a draw she would loose her title. At the beginning of the match she brought a kettle and cup noodles to the ring, and claimed she would be done in time for a nice hot cup of isntant ramen. She wrestled the match very lackadaisical, constantly belittleling her opponent at first, but grew more desperate with time. While she was clearly the superior figther in the match, her oponent would kick out constantly and not giving up. Kagetsu won of course, but it too her 6 minutes 30. She got up took her Cup Noodles, ate them and stated "A bit too cold I guess... Well, you did prove me wrong, I took longer, how long was it? 6 minutes 30?... Well I guess I proposed to lose the title if I took to long... But Rossi [the owner] never gave me a contract for the stipulation, so it was never official, So I guess I keep it, don't I?" and walked away. Kagetsu is great.

Well that depends on the booing honestly. Roman Reigns was booed for a while for the wrong reasons but yes I agree that any reaction is better than no reaction. Although in Japanese wrestling the crowds react differently, they are silent for a while to respect the wrestlers and the people watching then cheer at certain times. Any wrestler who knows how to work with a crowd knows what they're doing.

@@juliand.breakdown463 UK and continental Europe seem to play by those rules, too, as does indy circuit in general - the Kaiju Big Battel circuit for sure, and here in Ottawa 4C wrestling the most noise is always the biggest boos for the "meanest" villains. It all depends on how rowdy a given scene tends to be.

"What" and "boring" chants are some of the most toxic chants and do not benefit anybody. Booing a heel is fine and even encouraged to an extent, because they're supposed to be hated.

Alucard from Hellsing. He absolutely despised monsters like vampires and ghouls and werewolves, when he himself was the pinnacle of vampirism. He thus hated himself. He saw himself as a weak tusk of a man that couldn't achieve greatness in life without making a pact with the devil. That's also the reason he respects humans like Alexandr Anderson. The man was the only equal of Alucard the king of vampires in a duel, without actually being a vampire and still retaining his humanity, and they both deeply respected each other as men and as opponents. Hellsing was awesome.

Yeah I can think of at least three times where she hung Mayu from something and dropped her, though kicking her down the stairs only happened when she did the hanging at one venue (Korakuen Hall). Though there was also the time she dropped the entrance stage onto Mayu's neck, when she wanted to mix up the attempted murder

luke(broaden lee) goes to aew cause they got buried RIP eric few only know where he is. braun only got shoved and cameback with a push then flopped (typical vince) bray got a very messy run after his family saga, even as the fiend he has to butt head with many staffs and vince for creative issues rendering his art useless, he has good rep and work but being held back is just ugly even if the part of it is his very loose promo over-the-top villain persona and quite borderline too edge to cut someone.

Basically, yeah. Pro wrestling is, at its core, performance art, and it's evolved in a way since the days of the Attitude Era (with its shock jock humor and juvenile writing) into great theater with complex, three-dimensional characters that don't have to be all shouty and angry all the time, now able to convey a variety of emotions. Basically, modern pro wrestling has openly embraced the performance art aspect of it and, in the case of wrestling around the world, can be viewed as a great window of getting a vibe for different cultures around the world: look at how different the wrestling is in Mexico or Australia compared to a place like Japan or the Congo; the internet has kinda allowed pro wrestling to become this really beautiful thing that can, if given a chance, bring people together in a shared sense of understanding.

Yeah that's another thing. I never got interested into wrestling but I was always told it sucks bc it's fake. But like... movies and tv shows are fake?? And like, does it matter if it's fake? Do people actually expect wrestlers to fight like gladiators and illegal underground fight clubs?? Idk that's just weird. Super eyepatch make me realize it's a whole world of entertainement, story lines and character arcs and it seems so interesting.

Antonio Inoki is one of the most interesting figures in the history of professional wrestling and Japanese sports and entertainment more generally. The concept of a Japanese Shi‘a Muslim retired pro wrestling superstar-turned-veteran diplomat and hostage negotiator sounds like the setup to a very convoluted joke, but it isn't.

@@ogreevans You're right, and man Suzuki's early Pancrase career is super underrated. As terrifying as he might be as a grizzled pro-wrestler today, he was equally (if not more) terrifying as a young, ripped, hyper-talented catch-wrestler looking to legitimately torture you before ripping your leg off. And even during that time, he mastered being a heel without saying a word; from that douchebag pompadour, to the way he'd smirk obnoxiously when his opponents try to counter his wrestling, to the signature black towel entrance... the man was a menace you wanted to hate and/or fear.

Honestly EyepatchWolf's production and timing is so good it gives the scene a lot of extra gravitas and impact. He's clearly passionate about wrestling and his passion carries on to the way he edits this videos. ... wait, Kagetsu? Someone is finally talking about Kagetsu? You've made me so unbelievably happy. Her run towards the end of her career encapsulated everything I love about wrestling. I think about them, her feuds, her relationships often- and no one else ever knows who I'm talking about. While those brief frames of Kagetsu, Kris, and Hana bring up... a lot of complex feelings, it also summarizes one of the strongest periods in wrestling for me and I'm glad it's being remembered.

Some random facts regarding some of the wrestlers that were mentioned by Eyepatch Wolf, for whoever is curious: - New Jack had a match at Smokey Mountain against the actual Undertaker but unfortunately the footage seems to be lost. The video for the promo building up to the match is up on RU-vid - Minoru Suzuki is not a scary motherfucker just because he wears a black towel on his head during his entrance or his funky hairstyle, he is a legit fighter who has pioneered modern MMA as one of the founders of Pancrase in the early 90s, where also people like Ken Shamrock and Bas Rutten have fought. So this helps bring forward the fact that he is a dangerous competitor - Minoru Suzuki is also huge fan of One Piece, and has also appeared in one of the Chopperman specials. He also often wears a fedora outside of the ring. The man couldn't give any less fucks. - EVIL's finishing maneuver is called... EVIL

Minoru Suzuki legitimately beat Ken Shamrock twice, arguably during Ken's most roided-out prime (Ken naturally dwarfed the comparatively svelte 5'10" Suzuki). One of those wins was particularly brutal: Suzuki got a hold of Ken's leg in a heel-hook and yanked it HARD into a kneebar. Ken managed to grab the ropes to save himself with a rope-break, but Suzuki had ripped his leg so hard that Ken couldn't continue. Years later, they would meet again, and the more experienced Ken Shamrock... would get kneebar'd again. Suzuki also beat Jushin Thunder Liger in a legit MMA fight in 2003. It was... hard to watch.

@@Tenchigumi as far as I remember, Shamrock has always contested one of the wins and cited behind the scenes shenanigans, because like PRIDE some years later they allegedly fixed some matches to build hype around Minoru and Funaki, but nothing concrete has ever come out AFAIK. But Minoru always remains an insanely respected grappler by many people, like Bas, Barnett and also his master Karl Gotch, and like you said, often fought people way over his weight class in Pancrase and did always pretty well.

It's always been a bit more like a video game or a LARP to me, as the characters distinctly have stats and abilities that straight up make some just stronger than the others. For example, Santino Marella shouldn't have beaten Sheamus that one time, but hit an absurdly lucky critical success on something, or how Kofi Kingston seemed to always beat Randi Orton (or Edge always beat Kurt Angle) because one of them just happened to be tuned to a bunch of very specific weaknesses in the other, despite being consistently lower on the card at the time.

That's kinda the thing with pro wrestling; he's got plausible deniability on his side. All he'd have to do is turn around say "It's all part of the show, baby." Of course, he has been kinda punished in other ways, like the fact he seemingly can't get work in pro wrestling anymore because he's burned too many bridges and has done too much psycho shit which, in this day and age, is not acceptable, even in the deathmatch wrestling circuit.

Sure he's a 'wrestler' but I genuinely wouldn't wanna mess with him and that real part of 'yeah its a wrestling match but he could genuinely snap his opponents arm like a twig' helps his persona a lot.

That Naito/EVIL moment gave me chills just having the story described to me. When EVIL raised the Too Sweet i had to pause the video. I thought maybe he would just attack his old friend. But to jump to the Bullet Club? I barely knew anything about Naito and even less about EVIL, but that betrayal actually made me gasp. That is some well done storytelling

Kagetsu is actually really fun to watch based off of what environment she’s in. If it had a guardrail, her rival would be thrown off it and jumped on from the stairs. If there were wide bleachers, they’d be thrown between them. Fans reaching out to her would be cast aside and walked over just so she could get in a stab at whoever was next on her hit list. Best kinda chaos. 😌

For EVIL, I’d also add another detail. Los Ingobernables were small and close, but they weren’t like the Bullet Club where they would help each other win matches by any means necessary, EVIL got no help and so lost, and was seen as a weak since he needed it the most. It’s every man for themselves in LIJ, and this is also displayed as when members of LIJ clash they don’t hold back and go for it, as opposed to the fun BC and Suzuki-gun members have when they face. By joining Bullet Club he now had an army too who would help him stay as the god and not let Naito anywhere near him, as well as being able to help that army - what Naito never did for him.
