You are wrong. Vince Carter's broken ankle was done purposely by Bruce Bowen. Bruce Bowen broke like 7 players' ankles, that is why I lost respect for Spurs and their head coach
+AlkaShroom I still respect Spurs and Popovich. If You look at career of them, you can't not respect Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. Greg still deserves respect. Bowen was brutal player and he would do that regardless of instructions.
@@jaseallenson316 not with that power and position when throwin that ball through the hoop. Vince be dunking full extension, with power, and reaching in front when finishing. Not reaching up and barely making it. Zion in his Duke days had that capability. He kinda lost it a little but still got that power.
You will notice that dunkers started to overwhelmingly do things like wearing costumes after this like Dwight Howard and his superman costume. It's because Vince Carter destroyed the dunk contest in 2000. They cannot beat this, so they had to find other ways to entertain the crowd.
He did in fact rotate roughly 360 degrees in the air. He dunked at 180. But for argumentative purpose, say he dunked at 180 but continued to rotate a full 900 degrees. It would be a little misleading in that case to call it merely a 180 dunk. It's just not so technical of a definition when it comes to these things. I still call it a 360 windmill. It just depends how you define it. I'm not sure there's a rule book on this.
To me, Vince will always be gold standard for this simple reason: Pro athletes can do things regular people can only dream of doing, Vince was doing stuff pro athletes could only dream of doing.
I say that to myself every time I see him. Vince doesn’t need to have a championship to make an everlasting claim to being one of the best athletes in basketball. This video will be watched well into the future and those in the future will be equally amazed... 1/2 man 1/2 amazing. He will always be my favourite basketball player.
If Vince would've played for a more popular team and won rings, everybody would call him the better jordan. Not only is his dunking great, he can shoot, dribble, defend, pass, rebound ... all of it.
Marv Albert actually does say "... with his first STUFF". He didn't cut it off, he just said it loudly at the exact same time of the sound of ball exploding through the rim/net, making the entire sequence pretty awesome.
+Jan Clausell nope, that sitting dunk is great, but not great enough to beat reverse 360 windmill. Gordon's dunks can be done by professional dunkers, but how about VC ? ain't nobody touch that shit even today!
FIRST elbow dunk ever performed by ANYBODY!! FIRST 360 windmill!! FiRST dude to catch the ball mid-air and go between his legs to dunk!! The BEST dunker both contest and in game that has ever walked this planet!! Vince Carter!! 👏💐
@Pbajj Hey, you're right. I just saw Kobe's elbow dunk in 97. Vince got up higher with his and was more dramatic! You're right, though. I thought Vince was the first to do it.
when you remember vince was drafted by the warriors had his 2000 dunk contest in oracle and now if he wants a ring he would have to sign there to end his career with them after he got traded like so many greats from that franchise from robert parish to gibert arenas to antwan jamison to chris webber chris mullin owens to hardaway to richmond to ellis..how many great warriors were drafted or signed or traded away?...about 20 of them ..they had a horrible 35 years
I love the stunned silence from the entire arena. No crazy celebrations, because no one could believe what they just saw. I bet almost everyone who saw that the first time literally made no noise for a few seconds, lol.
The reaction to the elbow dunk was kinda like...that was a thinker. No one quite realized what they saw but that ended up being a signature dunk for him. None like him!
Yeah i didn't understand how they tried to scoff at it, I thought it was epic, especially in the slo mo replay. All that was missing was some CGI fire comung out of his fist as it enters the net
I genuinely believe it was just shock. Dudes couldn't comprehend that he actually just pit his whole forearm in the rim. They just couldn't process it. Even Kenny was like "wait a minute." Couldn't believe that our eyes were seeing the right thing.
The audience wasn't prepared for that honeydip dunk. That was my interpretation in their faces especially Jason Kidd's reaction 😂 Man, VC paved the way, resurrecting the dunk contest dying in the mid to late 90's
+Emmanuel Abijo. Vince can do more things in the air, and his dunks are a bit more powerful, but MJ is the most finesse, artistic, hang time dunker of all time. They are both equally good in terms of in-game dunks (even though their dunks are very different) and slam Dunk competition (even though MJ did 3 of them). No doubt they are the two greatest dunkers of all time. Also wanna give a shout out to Dominique and Julius Erving.
The reaction to Carter's elbow dunk is almost as iconic to the dunk itself. The whole audience was silent because they just couldn't understand what happened. They SAW it but it just didn't seem real. I can't recall a similar reaction to another dunk before and after it.
+Swaganzo Shimura yes it was hella hood everything was that was back then big clothes big chains big nuts big everythang lol now with theses new school guys its all smiles and handshakes
The 360 windmill is still the most beautiful dunk I've seen. It's not just the elevation or difficulty, it's his perfect motion. Vince Carter dunked with style. The most impressive dunk would be the one Carter did over a center of the opponent team during an actual game.
Reverse 360 windmill. Greatest dunk of all time. It's not just the dunk itself but the execution, the power, the grace, the style. How he starts screaming as he's in midair. SO SICK!!!
That arm in the rim dunk was shocking. I remember just trying to process it when I saw it live. Same with the crowd. They were just stunned. Nobody has seen anything like it. Still the best dunk contest in the history of the game.
I remember watching it when it happened, and everyone was just stunned into silence. I also remember trying to process what I had just seen. It was truely shocking.
He murders the rim. That’s what the windmill dunk was created for. I can feel my own anxiety leave just watching him unleash every ounce of anger on that rim.
Molun its cause his arms are so long plus he jumps so fucking high for no reason.... head at rim off two feet.... that means his arms are completely over the rim... all u need is to get your wrist over rim to dunk... he gets his armpit near the rim... andhis arms are over 2 feet long plus he is 6'7 perfect tall but not to tall tomake dunks look too easy and still has speed ans flexibility
God I remember this like it was yesterday just how HYPED this Dunk contest was ALL year in anticipation of what VC would do and he did not disappoint, and neither did the runner ups either. What a time to be alive
That 360 reverse windmill.."OMG"..how in the world can you beat that dunk!!..I'm sitting here 21 years later and it still gives me goosebumps..and I replay it several times..my jaw drops everytime💪😛👍
When he dunked his whole arm, and the whole stadium dropped their jaw. Ive never seen a moment like that where it was quiet cause it took people like 20 seconds to realize what just happened.
Kenny robbed him of a perfect round with his “any other time this would be a 10” bs logic. Punish him for throwing down the greatest dunk in dunk contest history...
@@razkable lol u know what piss me off is that after 40 years of playing in Oakland NOW they decide to get jerseys that actually say OAKLAND on em while they playing in frisco 😂😂
Thank for the amazing years Vince. From those amazing dunks and those flashes of greatness shown even at 43. To the last player drafted in 90’s have a great time in retirement half man half amazing, thanks for decades of great memories man.
everybody commenting about how they remember this dunk or that dunk, you have *no* idea what this meant for Toronto at the time. Raps were only in their 5th season and struggling for an identity - this put Toronto on the NBA map.
Vince the greatest ever and I even had a poll about it 😂👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🔥❤️……. you’ve got to be one of those young guys or something lol…. Vince jumped over 7 ft Guy…….#NuffSaid
As a Warriors Fan, I feel proud that Oracle Arena (back when it was The Arena in Oakland) got to host this legendary performance. Easily some of the best dunks in Dunk Contest History!!!
I still remember watching this live when he put his elbow in the rim. Nobody knew how to react because it was getting ridiculous. You didn’t even understand what you were seeing.
I remember watching this live back in 2000. When he threw down the first dunk, it felt like a bolt of electricity went threw my body. I was 19 and watching with a group of friends. I don't think we've ever been more hyped over anything. Half man, half amazing!
JoEnUtZ23 and 1st attempt.....not 14 tries Zach keep Vince spirit alive though....but i suggest you guys youtube....hoopmixtape...best dunk comp....there is a guy there that was nuts....leaped over 4 0r 5 people no push off..clean cleared them all
Then why don't you make it/yours better than..? Quit your job if u have to, dump your spouse if necessary, raise your children the way you wanted to.. Dan Pena said 87 percent of ppl on earth are not happy at there jobs.. beginning to believe that
All his dunks will never get old. This literally was the best dunk contest I’ve ever seen. I literally screamed and jumped off my couch every dunk. This was the height of the slam dunk contest. After this, it all went down hill
bet that female judge was glad to get away from his creepy ass for a second..he was probably trying to get her number until this distracted him the deiviant he is
Vince Carter 360 windmill dunk is still the greatest windmill dunk in history. Everybody tried to copy that or pay homage I guess, but nobody could ever really do the dunk exactly how Vince did it. One of a kind dunk… powerful and with grace and on the first attempt! Amazing.
Its the power he slams it with, and full extension of the arm on the windmill. No one else can do that, all the copy cats bend their arm at the elbow so it never looks as good as this dunk
