I remember the first time I heard this song. I was sitting at the kitchen table about 2 am. I had the radio playing. I lost my son to an IED in Afghanistan. I was missing him so bad and had my service pistol in my mouth. The song finished I picked up my sons Bible and started reading. This song saved my life.
I’m glad you put that gun down. I’m glad you’re still here. Gulf War veteran here; I had a rough time when I came home. PTSD and the bottle almost had me picking up a pistol too. My loving father brought me back to myself in his quiet and gentle way. He showed me that the world was still good. I’m so sorry for your loss and will always be grateful for your son. Don’t give up.
Thank God you had your radio on and thank God you did NOT pull that trigger. The sadness of your son's death would be compounded if it lead to your death also. You will be in my prayers.
I wanted to give u a hug. I lost my dad to a drunk driver. Mom to cancer. Best man to ALS. An now my other buddie to a heart attack. All this in 10 years. Jus know yur heavenly father only knows why. Bless you an yur channel
Last Christmas Vince added a third verse... "You’re safely home in the arms of Jesus / Eternal life, my brother’s found / The day will come I know I’ll see him / In that sacred place, on that holy ground,"
@@dos-fslady3140 I've only seen one video of him performing it. It was his first Christmas show at the Ryman last year and he struggled to get through it after saying he was crazy to mess with "his" career song!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6B0QsBkhE3I.html
Thanks.Im going to check that out.I watched the first one I saw earlier.A very sad day losing him as well as many other greats.Heavens having some great jam sessions!
I cry every time I hear this song. I lost my brother in 2022. He didn't smoke, or drink didn't have an ounce of fat on his body, was always active, no family history. Stage 4 colon cancer. Get checked! He was only 63. Left a wife, 4 kids, 9 grandkids. Breaks my heart! He was a great human!
My husband passed 6 months ago. He didn't die, he passed from death unto life. I haven't cried yet. However, this song makes me cry, not for him, not for myself. It touches my heart.
@Frances Shelton My middle name is Frances. ❤ I thought most of my life I was named after my Aunt Frannie (Frances). My mom told me a few years ago I was actually named after her mother which I never knew she died before I was born... Dorothy Frances. We named our daughter Lux Frances. Good name. My best friend overdose on heroin that was laced with fentanyl. They ruled it accidentally overdose. Like your son she was troubled on earth. I believe she did it on purpose. She sent me pictures of her and her children before she died and just hints about it but I didn't know under later. As hard as it is I believe she amd her son are both in a better place and at piece. 🤗
I played this for my son's funeral 😢. He was 13 when he passed. I love and miss you Joseph... Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. This song always brings me peace, for I know my daddy, brother and son is all up in heaven smiling down on me.
I went to school with Vince. He came back to OKC , where he is from , to sing this song for his best friend/guitar techs dad that had passed on..... RIP Benny Sr.
I've never heard or even heard about this song. I lost my brother, who was also my best friend and co-worker, last October 6th in a motorcycle wreck (R.I.P. & R.I.H. my brother) This song had me in tears before the first line was finished. Thank you for sharing this beautiful, wonderful song and God bless you for all your reactions. 👍
Dear Ed, I lost my younger brother last July when he took a bad fall when drunk, and cracked his head open in downtown Durango. He was 59, and mom (91) and I will never get over it. I couldn't face another day without music like this, and the sure knowledge that we will see our loved ones again, if only briefly, after our own passing. Thank you for sharing your grief and your story. I am thinking of you.
Nothing I could add...but we'll be reunited with our loved ones at the immanent Rapture! On the new earth we'll also be eternally reunited with our beloved pets...Father God brought them to us to love...He loved them too...but He loved us most of all!!
My husband listened to this song. He loved it. He was killed a few weeks after he told me about this song. I believe he knew he was going to die. He had been battling drugs and finally was drug free when he died. I’ll see him again in Heaven. Thank you.
Thank you for not hiding your emotions when you listened to it. It is very special. Another version is the one he did with Patty Loveless at George Jones’ funeral. Very emotional.
john kendall, you won't just cry or weep, you just break down. I did, at least, and still do. They say that since this song came out, only "Amazing Grace" is played more at funerals than it.
I've actually never heard this song before. I lost my mom in February of 2019. She was 94 and it was her time, but she had been in a lot of pain, so her death was a blessing. I know she is with our Lord and that is comforting. Wish there was a love button with a heart that I could click and not just the like one.
If this doesn’t make you feel anything you are without a soul. That’s what music is supposed to do. Every time I hear this song I think about those I’ve lost and miss everyday.
There is also a version of Vince and Patty Loveless singing this on stage I think after George Jones passed away, Vince cried threw the whole song, but got through, it was so emotional and beautiful at the same time, watching Patty and the crowd pull Vince through!
Heartbroken for you. My brother and I had been playing ball in a neighbor's yard when he was 13 and I was 9. He was hit and killed by a drunk driver. He wasn't even in the road. He was beside it and this drunk ran out of the road and killed him. When something like that happens, you are instantly changed forever. I'm grown now with 2 grown sons of my own and as a parent, I can not begin to imagine how my parents survived that. I grieve for you my friend and I pray that GOD's amazing grace surrounds and comforts you. GOD bless !
The fact that a song of this strength can humble anyone no matter the color of skin that covers us all proves we all have a connection within our hearts
You thank “us” for requesting.....but we thank you for listening and letting us watch your reaction. This doing touches many - even those that may not “do country”.
I've heard Vince Gill in concert, years ago ... he really does have the voice of an Angel and every time I hear this song it brings chill bumps to my arms and tears to my eyes, it is Heaven sent and very heartfelt. It seems like it always has a message for those that listen.
I saw Vince Gill in concert for 3 hours!!! He took a break at an hour and a half and it look like that was the end of the concert and he came back with a country rocker and proceeded to do another hour and a half!!!
@@norbertgreise7408 yes I saw him in Wichita Kansas and that was in the early 90s, he put on a fantastic concert that was probably three hours, we were in the balcony and at one point he was right below us and we screamed out "We love you Vince" and he looked up LOL and waved
The two most powerful loves in life are a sister and a dog. Heavy stuff. It's daunting the amount of tragedy everyone has experienced, just know you aren't alone. Nothing can take away the pain but time. All we can do is honor their memory the way they would want us to and pray for the days when time has made our wounds less harsh.
This is a one-of-a-kind song. By baring his soul in one of his hardest times, Vince Gill helps us shed tears and openly display our pain and grief in our hardest times. ☮️💜
I did not know this... Thanks for the knowledge. Jamel... Please watch this clip of Keith Whitley singing "I Never Go Around Mirrors", written by Lefty Frizzell. It's one of the saddest country songs ever written or sung. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vezn9t7n3hM.html
I am sorry for your loss. No parent should have to bury their child. When my sister died the pain I seen in my dad's face and heard in his voice was more than I could bear. I told everyone I don't ever want to feel that level of pain
I wanted my brother to sing this song at our Dad's funeral, but he said it would be too hard for him. Instead, he played a recording of an original song that he wrote called "Father to Father". He had to record because he knew he couldn't get thru it otherwise.
I lost my 34 year old son to cancer 3/04/22. I heard this song for the first time a few days after and burst into tears in front of a full room of people. Very personal to me now.
So saddened to read the stories of others heartbreaking losses that they associate with this song😢😢. My brother too was killed suddenly, in a work accident. His love of country music was why we played this song at his funeral. I am so sorry for each and everyone of your losses, truly😥❤️❤️
So many things in this world divide and keep us apart, but for one thing unites us, that we are united in death...shared grief with each other knowing the pain of separation, and seeking relief,.....
My friend, real men cry real tears... you are more of a man, a man with a real heart, than some will ever be! I’m so sorry for the loved ones you’ve lost, including your dog. My dog is old and I see him changing... I’ve lost a sister too. So much loss. But they are not LOST when we know where they are! God Bless you! 🧚🏻♀️🍁🍂
When our daughter passed at the age of 34 in 2015, my great niece played this on the mandolin. Changing it to female version. It is still one of my favourite hymns.
This and "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton gets to me every time I hear them. "Tears In Heaven" is about Eric Clapton's little boy who fell from their hotel room window. How blessed songwriters are, to be able to deal with their grief through their music!
All I had to do was think of this song & I'm crying. Lost my son, my best friend,my only child New Year's to covid19.They couldn't figure out what it was yet. Anyway he had strong strong faith. I've not been able to listen to this angelic rendition since.Vince can pull heart strings. If you can find him at Chicago Blues Fest with Eric Clapton you'll see what a guitarist he is. It's July 4th y'all please be safe as you can.🇺🇸. Y'all also remember this country is worth changing to save it.
my friend we need this more than anything right now. We are losing our brothers and our family. I don't see color but I know we have so many problems in our country. And if we don't come together as brothers and sisters, regardless of our color, we will be mourning as we sing this songs for our loved ones. God Bless my friend. May we all unite as a family and loved ones...
I am so sorry about your sweet sister and your dog. I don't really have siblings, but I lost my eldest son, Patton in July of this year. He was just 26. He died doing what he loved, snorkeling, in the river he loved. I will never get over my baby's death. He left behind a wonderful wife, a 5 yr old little boy & another little boy due in November that will never know what a wonderful man his Daddy was. I understand that heartbreak, & I will pray mightily for you & your sister. 😢💔🙏
Tami, I am so sorry for your loss. To extend your condolences to Jamal on his loss, when you're experiencing your own, is truly amazing. This shows me that those two sweet little boys will know their father, through the love of their grandmother and mother for the love of a son and a husband. And, the enduring love of a father who may not be seen, but most certainly will be felt. Love knows no limits, and is eternal. God bless.
Tami, those two babies will keep Patton alive in your hearts 💕. My heart breaks for your loss. I will keep you all in my prayers during these tough months. One thing that helps me as I just lost my sister on July 30th suddenly is that they are in a way better place. It just hurts to let them go from our lives for now. Blessings.
Tami so so sorry for your loss and the pain you are now in. I feel your son wants you to know that he is OK and will always watch over you and his loving family. You are all in my prayers.
My husband died 11 years ago and I had this song played at his funeral. When I listened to it just now I think I cried almost as much as I did 11 years ago. Home Free does a really good job on this song but Vince's version is THE VERSION. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction to this beautiful song. BTW, it seemed you were struggling to know what to say after you heard this song. I think the very BEST reaction might be NO reaction because it said you were so moved you were speechless...and that's a good thing.
Vince Gill has the voice of an angel, I could listen to him all day. This song makes me think of a youth pastor I had when I was young. He passed away in 1999 I cry when I hear this song.
Just for your own pleasure -- RU-vid video of this song done by Vince Gill and Patty Loveless at the memorial for George Jones. When Patty comes into the chorus with that high mountain voice of hers, Vince is so overwhelmed with emotion that he can barely choke out the words. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.
Patti Lovelace is so underrated. She grew up in the KY mountains and the daughter of a coal miner. She has an authentic Appalachian voice. Her version of You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive, gives me chills every time. The song is speaking of Harlan KY. And tells the story of hardship in that area.
@@BelindaTN You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive is one of my favorite songs ever (shout out to Darrell Scott) and hers is my favorite version. Her two Mountain Soul cds are brilliant. The over-produced music i n the 80s and 90s worked against her great vocal talent, and I think that was why she was underrated with the buying public. I think the industry people appreciate how good she is. You've probably seen it, but just in case you haven't, check out her with Ralph Stanley.
My father passed in November of 2019. I spoke at his service and it was the hardest thing I had ever done. This was one of the songs he requested to be played. I can't make it three notes into this song. I can't talk for 5 minutes after it's done. I love it. It uplifts and hurts so much at the same time.
My first time hearing this was a year ago at a friend of mine daughter's funeral, she died of cancer she was just 23 so I think of her whenever I hear this song! So beautiful!
It's the song not who sings it listen to the words that's how you listen to country not who sings it the best!!! Dont make me regret watching and listening to this!!!
I guarantee watching that video of Vince Gill singing (and crying) at George Jones' memorial will seriously choke anybody up. It's a truly honest, profound testament to how much he loved the man.
The most beautiful memorial song ever written! If you don’t cry, you don’t have a heart. I have lost both parents, my father when I was 33 and my mama at 42. I cry every time I hear this...
You have to hear him sing this at the funeral for George Jones. Vince lost it, and Patty Loveless carried him through. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l11oCvBxnQ0.html
Yes. That is THE most intense and beautiful version to me. Carrie sings her heart out and she is serious about every word she sings. She brought the CMA crowd on their feet, looking up and raising their hands. It was awsome.
I was just going to suggest that as well. It's a BEAUTIFUL performance. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xyLWjawgzlw.html
When Brad Paisley was recording Whiskey Lullaby he specifically requested Allison to sing it with him because he wanted it to literally be the voice of an angel singing the verse.
John Gregg Tears are cleansing.... I loved my Mama so much... I didn't cry either.. I sent the part of me away that couldn't stand the pain... I didn't think she would ever be back... I cry now .... for all the time I couldn't.. Gods blessings on you
One of my favorite songs. This is a major tearjerker song. I don’t know how he managed to keep from breaking down when he was singing the song. After all, it was written towards the memory of his brother!
Loss of a loved one is one of the hardest things you will ever have to deal with, but it's something we all share in common, tears in the eye means love in your heart. Had to check this out because it made Jamel's top 20. Worth it.
As the oldest child when it came time to organize my Pop's funeral it fell to me. I chose this song and it brought so many to their milk and really honored him...
My condolences to you my friend. I lost my younger brother 3 years ago (he would be 42 now) and this gets me in the heart every time I hear it...the tears they do flow like a river.
It's hard not to shed a tear hearing this... Faces of my loved ones who have passed flash thru my mind. ... I'm sorry about your sisters passing. Another good one is by Brad Paisley "when I get where I'm goin" God bless!!
That Brad Paisley song is wonderful -- great suggestion. If you want a more joyous, spiritual-style song about loss from country legends, check out the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Friends doing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" with Johnny Cash, Ricky Scaggs, Roy Acuff, Emmylou Harris, and more (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7bRJLkNqNXI.html).
It's heart wrenching every time. I commented on Home Free's version and Vince Gill actually sent me a message about it. What an awesome song and keep up the reactions on here. You're awesome at what YOU do.
You need to listen to Joey Feek sing “ When I’m gone.” Beautiful lady who passed from cancer shortly after their baby girl was born. She had the voice of an angel.
Jamel, you are a delight and I can’t help but smile with joy every time I watch your videos. You make some of my old favorites new again. But seeing you overcome with so much emotion in this one broke my heart 💔. May God bless you and keep you. Thank you for sharing your love of music and your humble gentle spirit with us all. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏾
This song was played at my buddy’s funeral. I cry every time I hear it. It’s very hard for me to listen to it. Thank you for the reaction. God bless you all.
You touched my heart when your heart was touched by this. I don’t know you. But I love you. Everyone needs to be told that they are loved. I’m glad you enjoyed this. You are loved!
He sings another great song called "Whenever you come around" Love your channel! It's funny, at a time when our world is so divided, music somehow magically brings us together.
Thank you for sharing this song. This was one of the songs played at my son’s funeral six years ago! Another song I chose for his funeral was “I Will Rise” by Chris Tomlin.
This song really hits home for me. I lost a younger brother suddenly just a couple of weeks before Christmas six years ago. He went through a lot in his life but just as he was seeing light at the end of his tunnel his time on Earth was done. A blood clot stopped his heart and he passed away at the age of 45.
One of my favorite verses is “Jesus wept.” This was at the tomb of his friend Lazarus just before he raised him up. It speaks to the compassion and love he has for each of us when we are hurting.
