Reason it feels like a Warcraft 3 custom game is because in a roundabout sorta way it essentially is; it's a single player take on auto-chess, which got really popular as a DOTA 2 custom game. So it's a roguelike based off of a custom game made in a standalone version of a Warcraft 3 custom game.
