It's important to note that Thorfinn's love for his father is more of a respecting your favorite celebrity and less of a familial love because he doesnt remember anything other than one or two moments about him anymore... That is also why in his "dreams" his sister and mother always say and do the same things, one line he remembers them by.

Askeladd never swore a oath on the name of his father Olaf. He did on the name of Odin or on the name of his ancestor Artorius. In the first case he lied, in the second he kept the oath. The next few episodes will explain why. The fact tat he presents himself as Askeladd son of Olaf is because at the time Norse people did not use real surnames, but patronymics. For example, Leif was known as Leif Erikson ("Leif son of Erik"), as he was the son of a guy named Erik the red. Thus, Thorfinn's name should be Thorfinn Thorsson, and Canute's name was Cnut Sweynson. If Canute was a princess, the name would have been Cnut Sweyndottir ("Canute daughter of Sweyn"), but he was a guy, both historically and in the show.

Didn't what Willibald (the priest) meant by "whichever one made booze" is how Jesus turn water into wine, so basically he said Jesus is better than Norse's gods. Or am I just overthinking it?

Something that I love about this show is that it's told just like how viking saga's historically are told. Saga storytelling were historically used by Vikings as stories that cover the life of great warriors, their deaths, their childern's life and so on. Viking sagas are kinda like records of a great person's life and lineage that were usually only passed along from mouth to mouth and not written. A lot of the viking sagas that have been preserved from that long ago show a trend of being widely exaggerated. Someone who might have only been taller then most would rather be described as "being as tall as a mountian" and would seemingly have almost supernatural strength and would always die saying the most epic one-liners. In reality this was because the people passing on the stories would exaggerate the stories. Thorkell chopping his axe and killing like 5 people at once is totally unrealistic, but is exactly how warriors are potrayed in historical viking sagas. This show isn't necessarily ment to be a historically accurate interpertation of the viking era, but rather how the viking era was described through the saga stories from this era.

The story is fictional but it's inspired by real history, and during the era the story takes place "Vikings" were slowly converting to Christianity, particularly the aristocracy and merchants which would be influenced the most by the rest of Europe, which is why there is a bit of conflict between people believing in the old Norse mythology and the newly converted to Christianity.

i think you miss or forget, in the first episode thorkell fight alongside with thor in the war at the ship but then thor go dive in sea to run away from war.

I’m pretty sure askellad verbatim said he if thorffin dies he doesn’t lose or gain anything. He’s disposable. Thorffin is highly motivated to get things done but is disposable at the end of the day to askellad

4:55, basically not all of Scandinavia became Christian at once. Typically the farther north(Norway, Sweden etc.) took the longest to convert. There were even some battles between Scandinavians because one was trying to convert one side to Christianity.

About the christianism among norsmen is that during the viking period due to the cultural shock som of them start turning, and eventualy due to a peace concil the Nors kingdoms oficcialy became christians, that's why all the flax have crosses, noruega, Finland, Island, etc... (English is not My first languaje)

Some Vikings would take a priest as a hostage to learn other languages, so they keep them in their camps and occasionally one or two Viking folk would be too curious like Canute & Ranga (who are the closest to the priest).

I don't believe the person who told you Askeladd is lying if he swores to Olaf was correct. It is more that him swearing to Olaf means something different than him swearing to Artorius. Also, you should have patience with the prince. This is not a story where everything gets resolved in a couple episodes. It takes time, which is realistic.

Christianity basically converted all Norse shortly after this, by like 1200. Starting with the royalty. Instead of crusading they simply paid them or (actually) converted the rulers of the countries. Then all the rulers men followed. And the Vikings were no more!
