This is why I personally think Craig is the 👑 king he got a deep armbar in Gordan Ryan, I think he was just too nice, if he didn't care about his opponents he would of pelvic thrusted and break that arm.
@@Zhcwu Exactly, I've said the same. The only reason Gordon beat Craig, is because Craig slowly turned on the arm bar instead of using full force and speed and snapping Gordon's arm.
@@smallswideawake I completely agree. Craig put on the pressure to give Gordon time to tap instead of just snapping it. I've rewatched that sequence multiple times and Craig was just being a good dude. Gordon definitely should've tapped.
This is my favorite submission of all time and it got no attention what so ever. You guys did hear it snap when Craig got him the first time? The first sound is them posting on the ground and immediately after you can hear the worst snap ever. I wanted to hear the MMA/BJJ world talk more about this. I keep coming back to this for my BJJ fix when there's nothing else to watch. Craig's hand placement and technique was impeccable.

That's a great point Chael made. Heel hooks aren't like most other submissions. You don't really feel pressure being applied before consequences like with toe holds or anklelocks. The consequences just kind of happen if you don't stop the problem fast enough. It goes from "that feels a little funny" to *POP*
@@JensenParkour Nah you feel that pressure immediately, it is just a much different feeling than a straight ankle or calf slicer. But because the ROM is much less on a heelhook than other leg attacks if you don't know what you are doing it may come on quicker because you don't know what to feel.
Inside heel hooks are nasty, but Vinny didn’t tap because he was arrogant and said that leg locks wouldn’t work on him not because he didn’t feel the pressure. I think it’s a bit overstated how dangerous heel hooks are. Look at what happened to Ethan Crelinsten’s kimura, arguably an even worse break

You think he doesnt know the dangers of getting caught in such a dangerous submission and not tapping? Its not the first time Vinny chose not to tap to a fully locked sub, Fabricio Werdum had him in a fully locked armbar once and he fought through it. The whole ''tap early, tap often'' mantra applies only to hobbyists and not to cream of the crop professionals. A pro will absolutely let his shit break to continue fighting. Money and fame are on the line. Jacare, Romulo Barral, Bia Mesquita and many more suffered broken limbs in competition. Did all of these athletes act solely on ego and pride?

Jacare was piss poor and was travelling on one way tickets to tournaments, buying his ticket back home with the prize money he won. It doesnt matter if its an armbar or a heel hook, both are dangerous subs, a good armbar can leave you with bolts on your arm for a lifetime. When it comes to amateur competitors, i absolutely agree, you get caught, you tap, you wont get anything out of fighting out a match with a broken arm, only to win a plastic medal in the end. Jacare got his arm broken against Roger, but in the end he won the absolute and defeated the greatest competitor of all time. You know a lot of people that hold a win over Roger?

I watched this live and saved it onto my computer. Watched it over and over. A few days later I was eating a rotisserie chicken and twisted off the leg. What Chael was saying is that Heel Hooks aren’t necessarily felt in the moment they occur.. especially when you are rolling and your adrenaline is through the roof.. heel hooks are felt after.. its why when you get caught in a Heel Hook, most people tap immediately cause its better to tap than to “Thug it out”

This is what happened. Craig popped vinnys hill preety bad. Adrenaline did not let pain set in until a few moments when vinny realized hes hill was damaged. After that people retire usually from the sport.

i used to take privates with Vinny 4 or 5 times a week back in the day when i was fighting in small MMA shows.. his only requirement to train me was that I wouldnt tap in a fight or comp.. not saying it is smart but just the old school mentality
