"Misremember" is giving them too much credit. I've watched a lot of streamers play the Elden Ring DLC, and there were always tons of people giving NPC quest instructions that were literally wrong, because they were reading a guide written on release day by someone who was making shit up I don't get it. If you haven't played the game yourself, and aren't interested enough in it to actually know what happens in it, why even backseat? Is it just a parasocial desire to be "helpful"?

@@KONSACZ It's difficult to watch Vinny play a game I really love. His sort of eh-who-cares attitude towards advice/spoilers means he never seems to get 'sucked in' and is barely paying attention to the narrative or organically picking up on things

@@KONSACZIt was pretty bad in the Silent Hill 2 playthrough. Chat was really bad. I wasn’t in chat but I know it was bad based off of what Vinny was responding to. There were sections in Brookhaven Hospital that made it almost unbearable especially when they were nagging him to “play off stream and that it’s the best way to play” crap. Like I get what they were saying, you’re more focused on the game that has a lot of subtly and details easy to miss or that chat can sometimes ruin the atmosphere and mindset. But being naggy lil coonts like that just leaves a negative impression to everyone involved especially first-timers.

I didn't believe this day would come.

“I don’t feel like cooking anything now.” Although this is probably just translation error. Henry doesn’t have anything in his fridge/freezer (besides a bottle of chocolate milk & wine). Being trapped in your own apartment building with no communication from the outside world (no TV, working phone, etc) while being tormented with the fact that even though people _SHOULD_ be able to hear you, they can’t on top of having repeated nightmares of your own death would probably wear down a lot of people.

Yeah 4 is a very cool game issues aside, definitely my second favorite Silent Hill

2 stands at the top for me. 1 and 3 kinda duke it out for 2nd because the first was pioneering as fuck, and 3 is one of the best looking games to exist on the Ps2. 4 is a close 3rd because it's so interesting and odd. The funny bits in it don't really detract from the actually spooky parts. It's like if a Suda 51 game was actually trying to be dark and spooky. Still gonna have some goofy bits, and some quirky bits, but the tonal whiplash works in favour of it.

I agree. 3 and 4 are my favorites. Both I feel aged better than the other games in terms of both gameplay, themes, and art direction. In a sea of AAA games that make “safer” experiences to aim for higher profits, I’m noticing a lot of people turning to older games and idie games because of the wilder ideas. So I will always respect when game devs aren’t afraid to get weird with it, even when I feel it isn’t executed the best.

I honestly think Silent Hill 4 is an excellent silent hill game, love the theming and story but it just got very tedious for me, I do agree with the criticisms about it in that regard, I didn't even end up finishing it because I just didn't feel like going through the game play loop anymore. Maybe that's my loss, but I hope Vinny can make up for it at least.

Horror games are just one of those genre where you really can't take other peoples' words for it. What's boring and tedious for some people is tense and frightening for another. Like, I personally find SH1 an utter bore, but I'd never tell someone to not play it because I personally didn't find it scary.

I love the jittery creatures so much in 4. I know some people might think it's goofy, but in the context of the game, it's less that it looks "haha model jank" and more like a bizarro nightmare of seizures, which I would venture to guess a deliberate choice.

Biggest issue the game has more than anything is just how mixed the sound design is. The ambience is phenomenal, and a lot of the tracks have a fantastic Japanese horror quality to them, and then half the enemies just use the goofiest stock sound effects imaginable

It was basically the beginning of the end for the series. But at least this one had some relevant people on board, as opposed to everything else that came afterwards that was basically a bunch of british, american, and czech people who were just given an order from Konami to "just make something". And despite everything, I still liked 4, even back then. But even as a dumb teenager i could see the writing on the wall, the peak of the series was gone with 3. Everything from here on out was gonna be a decline.

@@seto007 iirc they literally ran out of time to make unique enemy sounds or something like that, and they just had to grab stuff out of a stock FX library? as i recall the game was just a barely-functional prototype unrelated to SH that Team Silent were brought in to try and salvage shortly before shipping, much like when Hideaki Itsuno was brought onto DEE EM CEE 2 with just a couple months to go and he discovered the only game-ready asset was a single attack animation. which is why some enemies just make monkey noises or burp when you hit them lol, those were just the most horror-appropriate sounds in whatever library they had on hand

It's tied with 1 for my fave as well. As Vin says, the atmosphere is nearly perfect. In all honesty I think the only big issues with it are the map design (especially near the second half, like the Hospital) and that the sound effects have aged terribly lmao

@@KOTEBANAROT Tommy's stilted dialogue and absolute certainty that he's right is very much like a silent hill character. maybe not a protagonist, but definitely like one of the side characters. watch the flower shop clip and tell me if it had a dark and grimy look it wouldn't be a scene straight from silent hill

95% of the negative criticism about silent hill 4 is by people who have never played it

After playing 1, 2, and 3, I saw some gameplay of 4 and it just turned me away entirely. I don't think I'll ever give it a chance since it just doesn't look that interesting, but that's okay since I'll live vicariously through this playthrough.

@@TrueLadyEvilChan as someone who has played it & gave it a fair chance: game sucks lol walter is an awful villain whose motivation is utterly stupid, henry is a blank slate protag designed to be able to hav the player project themselves onto him which is a poor choice for a series as narrative-driven as silent hill, the voyeurism commentary is incredibly shallow & contradicts itself (moments such as the eileen head which seem to pass judgment on the player for engagin in the peephole stuff whether or not u actually did,,, vs the "intended"/good ending where Henry gets with eileen n moves on uncritically), the level design is incredibly boring made even more so by the fact u have to travel thru all the areas twice & as an annoying escort mission the second time around, combat feels even worse than the original 3, etc etc I will say, i do understand that a lot of people enjoy the gray n washed out palettes n specifically appreciate Room 302 for speakin to their experiences wit depression/isolation (which unsurprisingly is a sentiment ive seen a lot w ppl whove played the game after covid) & i dont want to disparage ppl for connecting with that. at the same time, i think it's wrong to say what a lot of ppl do after making that connection which is that it was intended to evoke depression, or that the game is necessarily a metaphor for social anxiety bc the points for that which ppl make to support that claim are almost always contradictory & almost always ignore the main focus n intent of the game which is walter's stupid crud.

It was pretty frightening for its time. And I'll say there is something kind of disturbing about the footage being so disharmonious and haphazardly spliced together. The imagery and sound are pretty effective, but this is probably the worst stream to try and NOT think about RU-vid poop.

Considering it's a cashgrab because Konami were basically forced to make games again because of the changes to Japanese gambling laws (affecting their pachinko stuff), I'd be surprised if 'anyone' thinks it'll be even remotely faithful. (and that's before even seeing any of the trailers etc) I am curious how it'll turn out, however, and am also looking forward to Vinny playing it.

It looks like it'll be just fine. I think anyone going in expecting it to be just as good as the OG is setting themselves up for disappointment, while there are many going in assuming it'll be utter garbage and will not move from that even if it isn't ngl
