The fact that this elevator runs (or, in this case, ran) so smoothly despite its age is a testament to the level of maintenance at Barnes. It's a shame that the building was -- or is in the process of being -- demolished, but the lift will be preserved through video and the memories of the elevator enthusiasts who've had the pleasure of riding it through the years.

I miss this building! I am glad that Shoenberg is going to stay but this building will be missed by a lot of elevator enthusiasts.

Are the original Otis elevators with touch buttons also being demolished? This is an epic elevator. I would say 1960's.

I think this elevator is from the late 1960's. If this building is being demolished, are you going to try to get some of the parts for your collection?

+technicalboy “techgeek5000” 3000 That would be Lexan. But I'm pretty sure they did use black button Otis elevators up until the mid-'70s.

Nathan Andrew Davis Actually I researched it and it said they stopped using non-halo black buttons around a few years after the Atlanta Marriott Marquis was built.

Nathan Andrew Davis BOO YA! I think Lexan is my most favorite fixture in OTIS, especially the ones with the Halo. It's such an epic shame OTIS discontinued the Lexan! Had so much character! But they now replaced it with their newer version of what they think is Modern Lexan. Nothing short of a set of 10 boring fixtures on a flat panel to push all day and to not get any fun out of the bright illuminated indicator staring at your eyes. PEE EW! Daaaaaaang I wish that OTIS would just keep using Lexan, Series 1, and green Series 2.
