Really nice choices for components - loved the silver finish which is hard to find these days with everything black. Loved the bars and dia compe brakes.

Thanks. Yeah, component choice is really important for the aesthetic and with the limited availability of finishes makes it more difficult.

Another great build. I love 90's to early 2000's GT and Specialized bikes. Where do you find the music for you videos? It's great background music when working.

Thank you. Basically, I am recreating my work environment in the shop. I've always found it easier to focus on the task at hand with music.

That's an elegant bike. How did you arrive at your chain sizing approach? It seems like most builders start from large-large and make sure that chain is "not too short", rather than your "not too long".

Great video, I have the same bike in blue. I’m looking to go to one front ring too, how many teeth and what was the profile? Sorry if you’ve already mentioned it somewhere else.

Thanks. The easiest thing to do is just maintain the middle chainring if you are starting from a triple. The middle chainring on the old school triples usually being anywhere from 34 to 38. The middle chainring wont be all that great at retaining the chain given it was designed specifically to help the chain climb and descend from the other chainrings, however. If you want "no drop" running you should get a narrow wide chainring and space the Bottom bracket for the correct chainline. hope that helps.

Thanks all sorted with XT hollowtech and absolute black narrow wide ring. One other thing, which headset or rather what size did you use? There’s various available on eBay but I’m looking at the XT 1”.

@benloten7182 if size you mean diameter, that is dictated by the frame. The inner diameter of the headtube will differ depending on the standard that was used from factory. 1" fits 1". Oversize is meant for oversize which is 1 1/8. And super oversize is meant for super oversize and there is no swapping between the three. If you are talking about stack, that's another issue.

great job, congratulations, I need to know the gear shift control of which brand they are. Thanks👋🏻

Thank you. On this build, I used a microshift thumbshifter. The build quality of thier thumbshifters is pretty nice and they are switchable between friction and indexed. I used the same set up on the raw specialized upgrade video but indexed. There are specific models that are compatible with either mountain or road derailleurs. Definitely worth taking a look. Hope that gives you some inspiration.

Do you grease inside of the HT when installing headsets?
@TheUndeadMechanic
@TheUndeadMechanic 7 месяцев назад
Depends on the finish inside the headtube, the fit, and the materials. I would be more inclined if it's alu into a steel frame. I would also be more inclined if Madrid was more humid and oxidation was more aggressive.

Compressionless brake cable casing?
@TheUndeadMechanic
@TheUndeadMechanic 7 месяцев назад
They are braided casings that I at first thought were more visual than functional, but there is less deflection and it leads to a noticeably more solid feel.

@@TheUndeadMechanic 8nteresting, motorcycles use braided cables but on hydros as an upgrade for power, I hope Ill try the compressionless setup on cantis soon
