Bottom brackets might sometimes require special tools. Given this is an 80s bike, the bottom bracket might have been pressed in.

Correct.How can you spray properly with a crank in the way?Masking tape or not....And the forks could have come out....Years of old grease in both and when they will need replacing,you risk scratching your new paint.....Seems a shame not to have gone a bit further strip down...

Incredible restoration given this was your first time. i recommend wet sanding between paint layers. Spray cans tend to make the paint less smooth, and smoother paint lasts longer and is less prone to chipping. Also, you could use nafta or paint thinner to clean the rear sprocket of the bike. Just make sure you're outside if you're using thinner. That stuff is incredibly strong.

Just buy a pair of tire levers. They're extremely inexpensive and effective. They're made of really hard plastic as not to damage the rim or wheel surface. I bought my pair for 5$ at my local shop. That was for some quality Park Tool ones.
@BartAnderson_writer
@BartAnderson_writer 3 года назад
Like the screwdrivers I used when I was younger ! I could hear the groans from the old timers when I saw you attack the tire with the crescent wrench. They're right though. Plastic tire levers are cheap and won't hurt the bike.
@LeeTanczos
@LeeTanczos 2 года назад
Come on, everyone knows you should use the handles from spoons :-) but most importantly of all… 1. start at the valve and 2. squeeze the rest of the tyre into the centre of the rim where it is less diameter and so gives the tyre the small extra free space so it will come off usually without needing any force from a tyre lever even… you’re welcome!

Good job as for Your first bicycle re-vitalization :) IMHO You could of try to find some reproductions of original stickers, to keep it as close to it's original form as it was. It would keep that bike's character, naked frame just looks kinda.. soulless ;P Beside that - great work, keep it up. After I have finished with my first bike it became my hobby, to make something special out of a "rusty trash". My first bicycle was German Centurion with Magura's hydraulic breaks, afterwards I re-vitalised 80's Peugeot road bicycle for my brother, then again German Rabeneick Fahrrad 1951 and now I'm again at 76' Peugeot, this time for myself. Next in line will be Polish classic road bicycle ZZR Jaguar, I'm gathering original Czech and Polish parts right now. Regards from Poland and keep the great work ;)

I’m enjoying the bike so far ru-vid.comUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

"...bike from nineteen eighty something.." while holding a tag that clearly reads 1987. Then "restores" (click bait, it's a make-UNDER) a fully complete bike, but removing "unnecessary items" for the pretentious sake of "minimalism" this is not a restoration, this is a sanitizing of a quality engineered product to pretend the bike was "made" and "restored" . So many incorrect words and terms.

You Should however Overhaul and Grease the Bottom Bracket, Headset and Both Wheels’ Bearings, and Oil the Pedal Bearings and adjust them if there’s ‘Play’. You MAY need to Replace the Brake Pads and Tension/Tru/Dish the Spokes on the Wheels, ESPECIALLY if you Descend Hills at High Speeds on this Bike.
