Vintage Hordak from He-man and the Masters of the Universe repair and restoration - Toy Polloi

Poor old Hordak has seen some action. This video show the restoration of a couple of Hordaks I have been given over the years. Paint touch ups, weapon repair and new capes all round.
The correct colour red is Humbrol 238 mixed with a little black. I didn't have the exact colour in the video as you will see.

If you were to reverse the cable tie (as in feed the loop the wrong way in) you can remove it by simply sliding it back out. You ciuld even plastic weld the end of the cable tie in the placd of the original tab, and do the same with the gripper end of the cable on the inside of the gauntldt, making sure its the corrdct way around to be able to slide the tab in and out. Use a small amount of plastic/super glue to strengthen the joins if needed.

There are sheets of sticky back vinyl in various colors at Hobby Lobby here in USA, I used two red parts stuck back to back and cut to make a nice Hordak cape with your pattern. Thank you!

Dave, when you have an image with a reasonably high resolution it would be easier to just go to the channels tab, select one of the channels that has the highest contrast and then up the contrast some more if necessary via the Levels adjustment til blacks get pure black and whites pure white. Then you Ctrl+Click it (invert if needed) and create a new solid color layer on the Layers palette. Thus you don't have to redraw everything with the lasso tool, and the contour will be as precise as it could be.

Could do. I prefer to make a new mask that is symmetrical. Often the capes have been cut badly and have errors in them.

You still can make it symmetrical. You just have to align the image, cut half of it, flip and paste it over prior to what I described above. I did exactly that last night with a Hordak cape image i found through google so that I could get all the steps right to post them here.

I remember I threw my cape away as soon as I got my vintage Hordak as a kid, because he didn't have a cape in the She-Ra cartoon. I was a weird kid!

Good call on the Edding paint pens. After seeing your Ram Man resto i tried a black on on my otherwise mint Subaru Forester steering wheel (The "next track/Skip" button had worn through to the translucent white plastic). It worked perfectly and you cannot see the touch up at all!

From experience Rich77UK, Edding with time and, especially, UV Rays, turns dark brown. Be careful, you won´t want that Forester looking like an Austin Allegro in a couple of years!

Other idea to strap on any weapons but especially this red Hordak shield. There are cheap kitty or small dog straps to buy at a petshop. The closures are usually too large for smaller action figures but i think you can fix it with Velcro.

6:27 the magic wand tool would work quite better there and much easier, since the contrast is so high. Should work perfectly at around 50%.

An enjoyable restoration/video as always. Would you ever consider doing a restoration video on the Prince Adam figure? I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but he's not an easy figure to get hold of either complete or in great condition. Keep up the good work

Hey man great job as always. I have just acquired a King Randor in great condition and was looking to see about replacing some of the armour and notice that Jitsu has the same one and already has the right type of gold paint (Though in the wrong places) Do you know if it is easy to remove the factory gold and what type of paint to use to fill in the gaps and to blend it naturally and not be an easy chip off or scratch off? Great video, as always! I have 2 questions. 1. If you ever have an opportunity, could you please restore a vintage King Randor? I have one in rough shape, missing a crown. Would love to see your take on what to do when missing a crown. 2. what size O ring and hooks do you personally use to fix broken vintage MOTU legs?

hey...your videos are great. I have a buzz saw hordak with a broken chest mechanism do you have any suggestion to repair? Should I open it like you did with battle armor skeletor?

Not one I have worked on. The battle armour trick only really works on Skeletor, so go careful.

Hey toypolloi I'm currently trying to print your Hordak cape but when I do it prints the full size of the paper and not to the size of the figure do you think you could inform me of what I'm doing wrong? I'm not that great with printers and I'm on mobile as unfortunately I don't have a computer.

Hi, easy to fix. Print at 100% on A4 paper. No scaling . Sounds like you are currently printing with scale to fit selected.

Print at 100% on a4 size paper. You have it set to scale to the size of the page currently. And that is why it is printing too large. Cheers

You need to shake the pen for a long time to get it mixed fully.

@@toypolloi Yes, I shaked the pen for a long time but it's sticky on my motu figures even ater 1 day of drying. I tried on other plastic surfaces and it works. I think the problem is due to the motu plastic they are made.They are impossible to paint ans I tried enamel ,acrylic but nothing works unfortunately for me !

It's a figure I am often asked to work on, but have yet to find him cheap. If I do I will sort out making the Cape.

Isn't his face supposed to just be White? I thought the Yellow was just a yellowing effect like with old Nintendos and some other Toys.

They all vary. Some is down to aging, some depends on the factory that made them.

The camera might be making it a bit off on my end but Hordak's face looks like a bone color to me. Do they sell Vallejo or Citadel paints in the UK? Those have bone colored paints.
