Vintage Housewares Glass Pitchers 

We were a family of 13 in the sixties and I recall Mom's big splurge was using her Green Stamps to buy a glass pitcher set with iced tea glasses such as you've shown. Of course, the old saying "this is why we can't have nice things" applied to this lovely set... which we kids proceeded to break. So it was back to saving stamps. Mom is a living saint! Another fun video guys.. 👍🍅

I love that you collect the dime store items and it’s more special that you still use them! Those things were in my house and my grandparents and bring back so many memories. I’d forgotten about tomato juice as an appetizer!

Very Pitcheresque! In the 50s and 60s, many things came as powdered (iced tea, Kool aid, lemonade) or as frozen concentrates (juices) and or in cans that did not look great on the tables, so classy people like our parents, Aunts, Grandparents always had a pitcher handy.

In one of the first episodes of Mad Men there's a scene where Don and Betty are out for a fancy dinner with his boss and wife. Betty orders tomato juice - the height of fashion in the 60's. I remember as a little kid having those tiny glasses and we'd sprinkle salt and pepper in them and maybe there'd be a wedge of lemon too!

I LOVE some of the "RETRO PITCHERS"!!!! TAKES ME BACK!!!! And yes, there is DEFINITELY "SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT DRINKING FROM A GLASS" VERSUS PLASTIC!!!!

LOVED this episode. I started buying pitchers because it was something we didn't have when I was younger. We had 7 kids in the family we hardly had any glass. So now I have about 25 lovely glass pitchers.

I remember the “Communion breakfasts” that we had after the Masses where the different societies would attend in a body and receive Holy Communion together. We kids had to do some of the serving and clean up and I remember walking around with trays of little glasses filled with tomato juice or orange juice for a starter. What great memories!

Hi Guys....the pitcher tour was great fun this morning! Personally I think plastic drinking glasses (and pitchers) are ABOMINATIONS, suitable only for the smallest child learning to drink from a glass. Remember, they are called drinking GLASSES not drinking PLASTICS :P

@~2:00 Okay Ralph, since you asked 😊, I have my Maw Maw's pitcher that appears to be the same blank as the tulip-decorated one that Kevin is holding. Mine has the ridged handle as well. It has 3 painted bands around the pitcher which consist of circles, some open, some painted in. The top ring consists of gold circles, the middle ring of white ones and the bottom ring of red ones. It is in perfect condition. It pulled Iced Sweet Tea duty for decades at my grandparents' table! I simply can't get enough of your channel!

My grandmother has the clear starburst pitcher. She kept ice water in it in the refrigerator (or icebox)!

Our church puts on a luncheon where each round table is assigned to an individual to decorate in a theme. Most bring their families China, silver and Crystal and other table wear to show off with lots of fun stories. We raise money to give to a charity. You pay for your spot and for your guests. It’s so fun to bring back the memories and the fun of decorating the table for the event.

I have a few as well and I do the same thing as you when I have people over for dinner, I always have a water pitcher! My most recent purchase is a green depression glass pitcher and it’s so pretty and I enjoy using it. Gram had a few as well including the one with red, yellow, white, and green stripes on it that would match her fiestaware! You prolly remember that set with glasses to match! I still have it! Hazel Atlas was well known for it's frosted glass line... including their tomato head design!! They were at one time one of the largest glassware manufacturers in the U.S. They had a marking on the bottom of a large H with a small A nestled underneath. They also used a large star imprint on the bottom of their pieces. I read that they were also very big in the manufacturing of "depression" glass. Very interesting!! Take care and be well!!

Thank you Kevin and Ralph for such a great video! I always loved glass kitchenware and I am glad you mentioned at the end of the video about plastic versus glass. I feel the same way. I never liked plastic, firstly because it is unhealthy and secondly, not so attractive. and I believe that the food and drinks in plastic taste plastic if it makes any sense! I use and buy glass all the time. My mother always had tomato juice in the refrigerator and she used to give us a small can of it for our lunch boxes for school. Your videos are so informative and fun to watch so thank you again and have a great day!

Loved the pitcher tour! I like those stout squire ones. I have a glass ball one with the Fiesta stripes that I think is from the 50"s that was my grandma's, it had matching glasses that are long gone.

Hi Kevin, oh my gosh when you mentioned WT Grant, so many memories came flooding back. They made the best hotdogs at the lunch counter. The rolls were toasted with butter and the slit opening was on the top of the bun rather than on the side. As a kid, I loved eating at the counter because the food came out of the kitchen on a conveyor belt and I was always nervous that the waitress wouldn’t get to it in time and the food would fall on the floor! Hahaha It was nice to see the pitcher collection, I have a 50’s iced tea set that was my grandmothers and it has colored stripes on it. I think you’ve inspired me to dig it out of storage and use it this summer.

This is literally a museum I hope to somehow visit someday I'm not even sure if you are open to the public but this is everything....

My grandmother had a clear Iris and Herringbone pitcher, but the one she used the most was white enamelware. It was HUGE. 1.5 gallons. She made sweet iced tea in it and put a plate on top of it to keep out the flies. She had 7 children--they drank a lot of tea. I have that pitcher now and we still use it to make punch at Christmas. My mom used a Corning Ware percolator for iced tea, like the one early in your stove tour on the shelf. And a smaller glass Hazel Atlas colonial pitcher with the H A on the bottom. I enjoyed the pitcher tour.

Just seeing this... but I'm obsessed with the red and clear Easy Pour and that striped beauty at the end. I don't know why exactly, but I have a THING for old pitchers. I have an antique glass one that is lovely for flowers.

The clear pitchers with the star on the bottom were used in hospitals before plastics became popular.

This was a fun one! I spot the tomato head pitcher, you used to use that up at the cottage from time to time. One episode you were in the summer/canning kitchen doing I think pot roast and had it full of water since that kitchen didn't have a sink, but you've used it other places in the main kitchen as well. Loved that main kitchen ans see it as an inspiration for my kitchen. Love seeing your collections from time to time.

I recognized quite a few of those it surprises me you don’t have the elusive kool-aid pitcher...lol I have a plain glass one that’s from the early 80’s it was a gift so I have no idea where it came from. I totally agree everything tastes better out of glass.

I remember getting a set of Ice Tea glasses and a pitcher with the ice lip built into the spout; it dated from the 70's. It had a wild yellow daisy pattern on both the pitcher and the six glasses, and it was purchased using the Top Value trading stamps, which came from the grocery store.

I’m from the Corning, NY surrounding area, so I like to collect some of those items.

Real Lemon 🍋 🍋🍋🍋🍋. It was a big deal to make lemonade in that as a kid.

Every time you show your shop I simply cannot wrap my head around the massive amount of beautiful things you have collected! I wonder if you are the king of collections? We had the green one with the lemons. Back then you could get all kinds of dishes with your groceries. I remember collecting glasses that were filled with cream cheese....I used to call them my Philadelphia crystal, lol!

Enjoyed the pitcher tour. I have one like the one at 4:10 and a Fostoria pitcher in the American pattern.

Neat! My grandma had a small pitcher in her china cabinet, probably held 10-12 oz. I always assumed it to be a large creamer or a small tomato juice pitcher. Turns out it was actually part of a lemonade toy set that included tiny juice glasses that I had always assumed were shot glasses or for some sort of aperitif. I use a miniature cobalt pitcher of hers as a creamer. Holds about a cup and looks identical to the Shirley Temple pitchers from the 30's, just without the logo. She thinks it was a grocery store freebie, as her mother had 2 or 3 at one point. Would love a creamer tour if you have a shelf dedicated to them :)

If the milk glass is what I think it is... and I think it is... there should be an emblem on the bottom with either a WG, or later, they just went to the name. Westmoreland Glass. I have... so much of that on my plate rail. LOVE it.
