This just got me opening my Mum's embroidery basket she gave me before she passed. I found a pack of needles inside that she bought on March 21,1965. That was the last errand she did before she had me :)

no kidding. one time during a sewing project, my cat was allowed in the room and while i was in the bathroom, he ate my sewing needle. one terrifying day at the vet later, and he came out unscathed, but it was very scary
I'm not into home crafting by any means, but your Tim Burton-like aesthetics and tastes are fascinating. There's a lot of cheap looking stuff on youtube, but this is first rate TV quality presentation. You also kinda give off a modern Elvira vibe, something of a spiritual successor. Great stuff!

You are so patient with your pets crawling all over your projects. If it was me my anxiety, stress, and frustration would be through the roof. Also, I am impressed at the lack of pet fur on your projects and home.
If there is ever a children illustration story book of Professor Poof and his Misadventures with Christine McConnell i would buy that. (of course all of the animals would be in it as well as they watch Christine make all sorts of goodies and decor. It would be very cute)

Yes I agree! One of the very few shows that I've watched a full season of and enjoyed every bit of it. It was so fun! Glad we still have Christine on youtube tho!! Cant wait to try to make these pillows, I think they're so cute

Professor Poof is the sweetest kitten. Each time he was in frame, I smiled. Hé is wholesome to a T. And Poof playing with the lovely black cat is so adorable, same with them both playing with the fabric.

I can't tell you how much it warms my heart to see someone embroidering like my mother used to do, when I was a child. I remember using her double hoops and purchasing embroidery kits from stores like Jamesway and Ames ( yes, dating myself, lol) and sitting with her in the living room, quiet for hours except for the radio and the sound of needles pulling through floss. She passed in 2017 from Alzheimer's but this vid brought me back to 1978. Thank you, Christine.

When I first started to learn how to sew a lot of tutorials and books recommended making pillowcases as a simple beginner-friendly project. I completely ignored that, thinking "meh, pillowcases are boooring". Now I want to make pillows. A lot of pillows...
I hope to be this intimidating yet kind one day. She just makes me feel like I can do anything but then I try to sew a patch and realize how incredibly talented she is.
I think you made the right choice to leave the footage in. It’s a good reminder that when we buy second hand items that we should give things a good washing! And we should also do that if we are selling things too

Apparently, I have a pea brain because I cannot wrap my head around the first pillow project with the marking off, and lines and pulling the thread... I find this beautiful, but way too hard for me. You are so amazingly talented. Thanks for teaching us again. PS I'm so glad you are in the new house. It suits you so well.

"Canadian Smocked Pillows". I remember these in my Granny's house in Northern Ontario. We have a cedar chest filled with family photo's, and two (count 'em, two) Flapper Dresses. Which means, I believe, that she and my union activist Grandad got up to some fun, back in the day... Thank you so much for letting me reconnect with this little bit of family history. Oh my word! My nana had one of these pillows. We kids used to play football with it. My nana just enjoyed watching us play. She never said a word. I guess my enjoyment of watching kids play I got from her. Although if I had that pillow now I’d put it away safe from football!
when she said she couldn't stand the feeling of something foreign on her hands and i was like "omg." i've always felt this way (i hate wearing gloves or mittens ever, even when it's cold) but i've never known anyone else with this same aversion. i feel so validated rn haha
Same! I must touch and use my hands. No rings no gloves no super long nails. I use my hands way too much for all that. I see with my hands so I don't like blocking my vision.
@@witchycrafter1037 I'll only go on a #2 in acrylic nails...but they bother a week and a half later but I usually keep them short, no rings, no bracelets, no rubber gloves, no gloves or mittens, and very rarely nail polish, but it's gone as soon as it gets even a tiny bit chipped.
@@witchycrafter1037 omg i can't even stand nail polish on my fingernails! i've wanted acrylics for yearsssss but 1) i use my hands way too much and 2) i know an hour after i had them i'd be at home trying to pry them off my nails hahaha
I’m glad you kept the in the part with the grossish old pillow, people will not believe the water when you properly hand wash vintage clothing for the first time. But all it needs is a little love and care to be just like new again!!

I love those pillows. When I was a small child we use to visit a friend of my parents and they (Leo and Lola) had this beautiful blue horse hair couch and those pillows. The only thing, horse hair is hot and itchy. The house smelled of cherry pipe tabacco and peppermint....magical times.

Now I find out that you are only a few steps from becoming a vegan and I want to thank you so very much. I run a sanctuary in South Australia and rescue farmed, domestic, introduced and native animals from terrible circumstances. I've been vegan since I was 14 and have 4 children raised as vegans. I'm old (compared to most people on YT) and my grandmother and great-aunt had pillows like this that each of them made (but in satin). I used to stare at them a lot when I was a child trying to figure them out, and I think about the pillows from time to time -- still wondering about their construction decades later. Nice to finally have that question answered!. Pulling the needle through thick/bunched-up fabric, I've used pliers too... but I was recently digging through my disorganized sewing stuff and found some rubber needle pullers I had never used. Think jar-opener pad but small. Oh my god, I don't know how I lived without them. I've been making Dorset Buttons with embroidery elements lately and the needle keeps binding. But having the needle puller/grabber makes it a breeze. I even used it today to open a little jar of enamel model paint. Those jars are always gluing themselves shut with dried paint...but turning my needle puller into a mini jar opener did the trick. Dritz is one company that makes them.
