The adhesive plaster in the tin is a bandage to use to stick down a gauze dressing…it would have been stretchy back in the day! I was a nurse in the 70s!
Oh thank you. Bit of a random item in a sewing chest. She would have been a busy lady with 5 kids. Thanks so much for letting me know. Have a great weekend ❤
My aunt used to do a lot of sewing for me in the 70's and they were mostly all Style patterns. I loved the trip down memory lane and guess what?...my first born (son) was born in 1976. A nine pound, three and a half ounces watermelon.
That rounded item you were wondering about,I think you would push them apart and it'd some kind of wax looking stuff that they used on their garments back in the day
What a treasure trove your mom gave you! Thanks for sharing. The Butterick with the beautiful blue dress and short jacket is my favorite. You did it again! You created something pretty with your new blouse . 😍
What a fun bunch of treasures. I love finding things like that. I have quite a few items like that, either from my family, or from auction sales. That little neglige set you showed last gave me memories. I had a couple of those sets exactly like that when I was maybe around 8 or 10 years old in the mid to late 1860's. They were from my older cousins who were several years older than me, and their mom had made them. They were called baby dolls, and were so comfortable to sleep in, in the hot muggy summer weather. We never had fans, or air conditioning, and very little airflow, because there was a big forest beside our house, blocking any breezes. So I really appreciated them. I felt so chic and grown-up in them. lol.
Loved the trip down memory lane. The magazine with the patterns is cool, loved the patterns too. My favourite is the slip pattern, especially those knickers/bloomers with the bow... adorable. Not sure what the little wooden tool is for, ive next seen one of those before. No idea. The Weigels patterns are a collector item, Madam Weigal was such a griuncbreaker bringing sewing to the home sewers with her patterns. There was a show or movie made about her, which is probably on RU-vid somewhere. I had one of those sewing cabinets thingy... i gave it to my daughter already. Its very handy and keeps lots of things inside. Your blouse is cute. Thanks for another vlog ❤
Thanks Deb. I'll have to find that video. I'd be really interested to see it. How good to have a few collector's items. Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me know. I hope you have a great weekend ❤
Hi! It was fun looking through your new treasures with you! Re the little wooden case.... My first thought was that those ends looked similar to tatting shuttles. Although I've never seen any made of metal. Did she ever do any lacework? This is funny because my Grandpa Smith saw a LOT of different handwork being done by all the farm and church wives, and he called EVERYTHING tatting. 😆 Knitting, sewing, crocheting.... you name it. I had a cabinet similar to yours, though I bought it in the 80's. I do keep my fabrics folded in a very old handmade pie safe, though, which is very special ❤
Hi. I had to google it but there was a more modern looking tatting shuttle in the chest. I didn't know what it was. She did make doily style, lace table cloths. I thought it was way more interesting than I expected going through Mum's chest. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks so much for spending your time with me 🥰❤
Hi Katrina, you have a love a vintage pattern haul! The butterick 9828 dates to the 1960s. I love the silhouette of the suit and the hat is to die for. (I love a hat!) The one after was all the rage in the mid folate 70s. I wore the tiered style back then which is probably why I have tried my best to avoid it this time round! But they were so voluminous I guess there were lots of women who might have worn the, Speaking of maternity wear, I actually loved the maternity fashion from the 50s (roughly). Now people would say it's actually ridiculous and is worn, but my mum made me a fewof things and I always reached for those in preference to anything else. I feel out together and comfortable. Just finishing off my Fernbird dress from the sewing revival (I refer to this dress lovingly as the Dodo...it's a long story!) Hope to get it up on IG soon. Have a great week, stay cool, hydrate and see you next vlog😎🥛🏖☀☀
Thank you so much. I hope you are hidden away from the heat too.I am actually hiding out in my sewing room about to cut out my first Heron Shirt. It seams to be a great weekend for Sewing Revival patterns. I hope yours has cooperated. Finger crossed it all goes well. Thanks for spending time with me today ❤❤
