My channel is all about my journey of sewing and knitting handmade clothing. I love fabric, patterns and yarn and l quite enjoy sharing my experiences with the sewing community.
I find vlogs like this really interesting. I also have fabric hiding in my stash bought for particular patterns that have not yet been made up. I also need to start prioritising these! As soon as you held up that last black and white rayon I guessed you were going to use it for a Shelby! Hope things ease up for you, and you are able to find some sewing time soon.
Awwh. Thanks so much. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully the school holidays, will give me a chance to get some sewing done. Thank you so much for watching ❤ ❤
I love the Shelby. I’ve made the romper in short and maxi length. Such a great pattern and fitting is a breeze with the back tie. I used rayon both times and it is such a comfortable summer wear.
Thank you for letting me know. I really need to make that dress. Hopefully I can get it made before the summer. I think it looks great on everyone who has made it. Thanks so much for watching ❤ ❤
My stash is ridiculous so you do what makes you happy. I need to sew enough clothing to dress a village!😳😆 I hope you have a really fun weekend. Thanks so much for watching ❤ ❤
Hi Katrina. 2k subscribers huh? Well done! Sometimes all our wonderful sewing plans just get waylaid by ‘life’ don’t they? Take case in point… want to finish my second toile for my frocktails frocktails outfit and was going to spend today getting this done. But here I am sitting in bed, tired, sore throat and watching RU-vid. Real glad you found your fabric for your frocktails outfit. Hope you get the time you need to get onto the make in September. Shame about the rayon fabric that got soaked in the rain. Hope you can get back to point where you’re happy with it. And yeah… our gutters didn’t handle the recent rain either. Have a great sewing week and see you next vlog!
Thank you so much for watching. I'm sorry to hear your not well. My son also has had something pretty nasty this week. Hopefully you feel better real soon. ❤❤
Heartfelt congrats on the milestone of 2k subscribers. Your stash fabrics are gorgeous and will make some lovely sprin2v and summer garments. I cant wait to see them made up. Happy sewing ❤❤
Well done on 2k Subs! Very well deserved 🎉. I do like the Marlo but the length annoys me, short is too short and long too long 😂, I need to adapt my next one to the right length, yours looked good despite your reservations. Some gorgeous fabric there and lots of pretty dresses on the horizon I see, can't wait ❤
Thank you so much. Yes I do agree about the Marlo. It's good to know I'm not the only one to have these issues. Thank you so much for watching. I feel quite honoured to have you watching🥰. Have a lovely week and lots of sewing ❤ 😊
@@create_something_pretty seriously you do not need to be honoured! I love watching you but I quite often forget to comment. I love the fact you do a mix of pattern companies like me and you inspire me 6 months in advance 🤣💕
I’ve made multiple versions if the Collage Gather Top. It’s great for scrap busting the leftover bits at the end of a project. I’ve yet to try the long sleeved version because I’m always using up bits (including colour blocking). I’ve got the puff sleeve one but not made it yet, same with the Nephaline. Love the look of that!
Haha I cut out the black background (reds/pink) flowery rayon from East Coast Fabrics today...just a basic V neck tee. You have some great plans. Happy weekend! x
That’s why I haven’t made pants! I know I’ll have to work on getting the fit right. I can’t afford the fabric to make mock-ups and our thrift stores around here are even expensive! I may try some elastic waist knit pants! It seems odd that you’re talking about spring clothes. I live in the US and I need to sew for fall and winter, pants and long sleeves! Right now I’m working on quilts for my 4 adult kids that I started about 25 years ago. I just finished the second one and I almost have the top done on the third. My goal is to finish that one before Christmas since that daughter is coming home for Christmas! Happy sewing!
I hear you about the expense of mock up fabric. I find knit fabrics are really expensive here. Our second-hand stores are getting expensive too. The local community op shops are much more affordable. Do you have them there? We are very used to you guys being in the opposite season to us. The UK and US are always on TV. Not unusual to us at all. It's funny how being such a big country we get forgotten all the time. I really appreciate you spending time with me and taking the time to chat. Have a lovely week 😊❤
Hi Katrina, loved your vlog this week. Denim appears to be a trend OS for autumn/winter, so not surprised we still seeing it here. which denim skirt should you make? Make what YOU want to wear, what speaks to you. Try not be overly influenced by what RTW designers etc say you should be wearing. You do you (cos I think you do it well!). definitely make up the fabric your husband bought you. It's beautiful and work beautifully next to you. I have SA the palmer shirt dress pattern as well as Streat dress from the Sussex seamstress. Have been looking at both but think I am going to make the Streat at this point. in time. Can you give a number to each item (say 1-5) 1. being low and highest. That may help you narrow it down a bit? Take care and see you next vlog😎
Thank you. I love the faith you have in me. I think fashion trends are a good guide to what's out there but I definitely don't believe in wearing them if it's not in line with my personality. I also don't want to look too trendy. I think that's a teenage thing. Looking fresh and well presented is more my goal. Also comfort. Thank you so much for spending time with me again today. I always look forward to chatting with you.❤❤
Love the plain green for the Palmer and I also have the PE shirt dress on my raider as well, had the pattern for a while and you have inspired me to get moving on it. 😊
I always love your plans video. The Tommie skirt style is certainly still around and i think it would look so great on you. I think the stretch denim would work with the Tommie, i guess the pattern will advise how much stretch. Im looking forward to seeing some of these garments on you. Enjoy! ❤❤
Oh Deb. Me too. I am so anxious about Frocktails and this collaboration after having such a unproductive month. I have almost finished my collab project so hopefully I can relax a bit and make something more practical. Thank you so much for dropping by. I really appreciate your friendship.❤❤
Every time you say your age I'm shocked, no matter how often I hear you say it. In my mind you are at least 10 years younger than you say that you are. You seem just the same age as my son and daughter in law. But looking young is something you will appreciate in the years to come anyway. Lol. I think you really need the Clo Bias skirt. I've heard of it but never really had my interest piqued until now and I selfishly really want to see it made up by you. Lol.
That's is so kind. Thank you. I really want to make the Clo skirt too. I've made good progress on my current project. Hopefully I can sneak it in. Thank you for stopping by again. I hope you have a great week.
Love your plans. Hubby and I often watch your videos together on Friday nights and we sometimes try to guess how old you are, can't believe you're in your 40's, girl you look great. We had you pegged for 30-33. I often read the transcript to videos but the interpretations are always way off so I had a good laugh when I read that you're not 100% sure what to wear to "Frog Tails".😂❤
Hey I hear ya with the pronounce of words. I love the camillis dress. Please make that. I’m gonna look at that pattern! I have to be careful with tiered dresses cause I have a short body ❤❤
I really enjoyed this plans video. I also have heaps of plans, but not much time! The Hudson pants are a great tracksuit pant pattern. I have made 4 long pairs, plus 1 short pair for myself, as well as a number of pairs for both of my daughters. The denim you are using for your skirt is lovely. I used that denim to make a Friday Pattern Co Bernadette Skirt. This is also a great skirt pattern that you might like - coming from a similar age sewist with possibly similar body size issues. My suggestion is to make the Tommie Skirt! It is a classic ageless style. I made one recently and have already worn it heaps. Don't be afraid to make the Jenna shirt it white. It will look fantastic! However it would also look great in the purple. The Zalia dress will look wonderful in that linen. The fabric is gorgeous. It may not be a priority sew, but sometimes you just have to make something just for the joy of it. With the shirt dress patterns if you don't want to do the gathers you could always lengthen the first tier. I am planning on doing that with the PE Take a Chance. The ITS Comillas dress would look fantastic in that beautiful fabric. And finally, I also sew in my head much faster that I do in reality!
😆I love how you think. If only we sew faster. I love all your suggestions. I'm looking forward to getting these dresses made so I can move on to my every day clothing. Thank you so much for watching ❤
What an amazing plans❤ I loved the fabric your partner got for you. Also I really like StyArc patterns, but little bit worried to try on them since their constructions are a bit skim. I am looking forward to see your makes as always. ❤😊
Thank you so much for watching. Style Arc is good as long as you read the instructions carefully. If your really new, they probably aren't a great start but if you have a few makes under your belt, I think you could do it. The more recent patterns are easier. I'd choose a simple project to start off with. I hope you have a great weekend and a chance to sew.❤❤
I've made several Pattern Emporium Take a Chance shirt dresses. Loads of different sleeve options, excellant instructions and you don't need to add tiers at all if you don't want too. I had limited fabric for one dress and didn't do tiers at all and it is lovely. I really recommend giving the pattern a go!
I made the Tommie in a rigid denim and it worked well. I actually emailed Stylearc and asked if it was only suitable for stretch denim and they said either is suitable. Denim is going to be popular for a good while. I'm seeing lots of denim dresses, shirts and skirts with gathers (which don't suit me). You could always use a gored skirt pattern to emulate the denim skirts you're seeing.
Thank you for your suggestions. I am really enjoying all this denim. It would be good if I could use a denim from my stash. Thank you so much for passing this info on. Thank you so much for watching and chatting ❤ ♥
Lovely video! Thank you so much for sharing your favorite blouse patterns! I love the look of the Onil blouse and I went straight to download it when you said it was a free pattern. I also have Simplicity 9469 and have been wanting to make it for ages. 😊
Wow! I really enjoyed this. Thank you! I love your makes, so cute. I'm going into fall and need some new blouses to wear to work and you've given me some great ideas.
Hi I love all of these blouses especially the red Roscoe, also love the Athea blouse must make that one. There all so lovely especially the hacked , the ruffle the way you made it looks great it would make my bust looks so big . There is a lot of blouses out there I'm glad you brought attention to them it saves me looking for them keep them coming your style is very similar to mine ❤
I loved seeing all your blouses! I am on a blouses kick right now. I want to make the Anthea blouse after seeing yours. I also have a few of the big four patterns that you showed at the end but I haven't made them yet.
I love, love, love the Closet Core Cielo. I've made at least 4, maybe 5... I've also just made the Nepheline blouse because I loved the sleeves. Great vlog
I’ve made the Onil top and love it, I’m actually wearing it as a watch you, I would be careful of the arm size as I find then quite tight so will enlarge next time
Oh I don't think a lot of people know to do this. I've never seen it in a pattern. I think a lot of people are self taught these days. No formal lessons like my Mum had. This would be great to share. Thank you for stopping by and passing on your knowledge.
Just found your channel and love your makes. I'm with you on the facings. I usually swap them out for bindings instead. You also mentioned a designer I hadn't come across before ( Vivian Shao Chen), so I'm checking out her patterns now. ❤
Oh I'm so happy to hear I've helped. Thank you so much for watching. I think I should get better at swapping out facings for binding. It seams a lot of people do this. Thank you for stopping by and spending time with me ❤ 😊
Great blouses! My TNT tops at the moment are the Matchy Matchy Skipper top, LOVE this one; the Grainline Scout; Camp shirt by Liesl+co; and the Grainline Archer shirt. I want to make the All in easy fit shirt to compare the it to the Archer. Soon I'm trying the Liesl+co Weekend Getaway Blouse. Thank you for sharing!
I keep hearing good things about all these blouses. I'd also love to know how the Archer and pe All in Easy Fit Shirt. I have the PE shirt but none of the others. I'm definitely tempted to buy them. Thank you so much for stopping by and spending time with me today ❤
I love all your pretty blouses. I love the Anthea blouse and looks so great on you. I love the Simplicity blouse in the lighter colour, you should go for it and just wear it. It will look great in springtime. Gotta love a ruffle neck blouse..the neckline is so pretty. What size did you end up using to make your Cielo top, I have that pattern and found it was too big? All gorgeous. You have such a great selection.
Hi Deb I'm sure I sized down my Anthea to a 14. I just narrowly avoided a broad back adjustment. I think next time I might actually do one. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you had a great weekend.
