Now you're talking. Sugary cereal the narcotic kid fuel of choice for 80s kids!
@OofusTwillip

My mom wouldn't buy sugary cereals for us. So, we'd pour maple syrup over Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Shreddies, or Corn Flakes, to sweeten them and give them a richer flavour than mere sugary cereals.

We were poor in the 70's so when my Mum got cereal now and again it would be a huge treat. I did haunt her to get Weetabix when Tom Baker, Dr.Who stickers were in them. We usually just got tea and toast in the morning.

Tony The Tiger Was GREAT!!!!! Didn't Matter If He Was On A Frosties Ad In The UK Or A Frosted Flakes Ad In The US Or Canada!!!!!

Speaking as a Californian, it's cool to hear Thurl Ravencroft as Tony the Tiger (like in the States) but the additional English kids character voices! Very cool. 🙂

It's the strangest feeling seeing some of these adverts, especially the "Very very tasty" Bran Flakes advert and the "Just Do It" Wheetabix advert and remembering them so vividly, yet it's about 35 years since they last aired.

The Honey Monster adverts (with Henry McGee) are referenced in a couple of sketches on "The Benny Hill Show", which also featured Henry McGee.

Another great collection, I can tell you that the first Coco-Pops advert in this collection is from 1980, the reason why I know this is that my appendix ruptured and I spent some time in hospital, whilst recovering from the operation (no key hole surgery back then), the Coco-Pops advert came on the TV in the children's ward that I was on, it made me and a fellow patient laugh so much, trouble was my wound was so painful when I laughed, so it was a Laugh, arghh, laugh, arghh. Sorry to waffle but that advert brought it all back to me. Thank you 😊

@@RetroSteveUK yes Steve, much better thanks. The memories are the things I like about watching your compilations, also a lot more thought seemed to go into the adverts from the 1970's and 1980's, a really great time to be a viewer. Keep up your excellent work.👍🏻

Remember having those mini selection packs of Cereals in th 80s,I wouldnt know if they are still available ??? Anyway,the Weetabix hard men made me laugh,brilliant . . Remember collecting the Tony the Tigar Matchbox Pontiac Firebird . . . Waited for what seemed an age for it to arrive in the post,to then find it was a faulty toy with a knackered wheel . . . Then again,perhaps now it would be worth something !!?? Great Ads again Steve,stay strong.

Those mini selection packs of cereal are still available. My wife gets them for herself sometimes (too small for my appetite). I remember sending off for some free Tony Tiger sellotape with pictures of Tony flying a kite on it. Can't find any reference to that, though.

Tony the Tiger seems to be channelling Bruce Forsyth in the advert.

Tony the Tiger was voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft, who voiced the character for decades in North America. He also sang "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" in the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" TV special.

The Sugar Puffs thing is so funny .. Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer had a line in their 'Mister Songwriter' comedy song during one particular episode of Big Night Out that I've never forgotten but cannot find on RU-vid. It went, "Oh Mr Milk Man ... Bring me some milk .. for my breakfast .. so I can pour it on my Sugar Puffs, and my pee will smell of honey for a fortnight!"

What incredibly fleeting shots of the great Sam Kelly in the Weetaflakes advert - you've got to wonder why they bothered hiring him. I'm pretty sure I've never seen those earlier Coco Pops ads before - I only associate Coco Pops with "I'd rather have a bowl of..." - interesting to see these ones instead.

@RetroSteveUK
@RetroSteveUK 2 года назад
They did, and then changed it back again after a public outcry & market feedback. As I remember it, Kellogg's tried to unify the names of all their cereals, so the idea was that Choco Krispies were the chocolate version of Rice Krispies. I think they did something similar with Frosties at the time.
