I get wet in my eyes every time i hear a Rhodes cos it is so beautiful , and i lost both my 1978 Rhodes Mk1 and my 1978 Minimoog ina tragic happening....These instrument have their own soul and can take you some dimensions higer to the other side of the veil,..
@Ben Garland The only thing i miss in the Rhodes that a piano has is the dynamic range. The dynamic range of the Rhodes is limited. Otherwise I indeed prefer the timbres of the electric piano.
I thought for sure it was the sustain pedal squeaking. In general, if there's a Rhodes in view and something is squeaking, I assume it's the sustain pedal
Keyboard players prefer to spend money for keys, not for chairs. I have a couple vintage synths too and that's why my chairs aren't so expensive :) and Matt Johnson plays so sweet.
I’m imagining the recovery room in a hospital has Matt playing these tunes for people as they wake up from general anaesthetic: ‘Nurse, do my ears deceive me or are those the sweet sounds of a Vintage Vibe wafting towards me?’
I am a keyboard tech who has worked on many Rhodes pianos over the years. This is amazing in that when played hard it resembles a Wurlitzer and when played soft it sounds like a Rhodes. Just getting the weight lighter is a major achievement!
I would love to have a full LP of you just playing the Rhodes and the Moog. Absolutely lovely playing , one day I’ll have 1 % of the skills you have , you know what I’d be happy with that
All I want in my life is not a girl not a Ferrari not anything other than a Minimoog and a Rhodes! I don’t care about anything else other than these two fantastic instruments!
The orange colour is particularly striking Matt, very 70s. You just need the matching brilliant orange VW bay camper van to tour California playing mellow piano to the night time stars. It sounds gorgeous.

One of the things that gets me every time I hear one of the VV pianos is how sweet sounding it is. It has that oh, so coveted soft attack of the MKI Rhodes when playing mezzo piano, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t dig in and give it a run for its money. Excellent playing, as always, you certainly do the instrument justice.

Dayum! Went from a Chick Corea kinda vibe into a sorta Vangelis "Blade Runner Blues" feel, and then... I hear a lotta Chick's influence here, some George Duke, etc etc. Really glad i stumbled upon this vid.

The Boss CE-2 pedal with this piano sounded sublime!! Very useful that you can insert effects. I hope you release an album with all your favourite synths / keys. LOVE those jazzy chords with the Moog lead.

Matt, your playing really brings out the beauty of this instrument. In my opinion this Vintage Vibe keyboard is its own instrument. As fantastic and organic sounding as the Rhodes but has it's own personality. So glad they are building them!
Matt, you're just on a different planet. I really enjoyed this video, especially the Stevie/MJ licks at 11:00. A real inspiration. You're part of the reason I am learning to play. Any tips on theory/practice you can give me I'd me most grateful. It all seems like a whirlwind at this moment, not easy! All the best.
