Hi Michael I recall you putting up a post on FB about the passing of Peter Schickele, but as I wasn't familiar with him, it kind of went over my head. The Open Window sounds like something I'd like. Your descriptions are always excellent and make the music highly intriguing.

Hi Rob! Peter Schickele is best known for his comedy-classical PDQ Bach records, but this is definitely more for the psych-prog listener. Not sure how easy any of it would be to find in the UK. Thanks as always for watching! New video coming today.

Very interesting music, it was actually something I could sit down and kind of enjoy. I loved the samples Michael, it helped me get a true feel for the music. Very different type of music but enjoyable

Glad you kind of enjoyed it! You were really the inspiration for me adding some needle drops...I had had some bad luck trying to include samples in the past so I've mostly avoided it over the years. But I see how you're able to include a bunch every week. Thanks for stopping by!

Michael, my Sunday show gets 4 or 5 warning that just say if I use the samples I won’t get paid. No big deal. For me it’s the samples that peop,e enjoy especially with music you don’t know. I have had only 1 or 2 samples that I could not play.

I think the first couple of times I tried to use samples I had to re-edit and re-upload the videos without them or they would have been blocked in most countries, including the USA. That was before RU-vid had the feature that you can just mute or delete the part in question. I was really put off by that, especially that I couldn't include a Lovin' Spoonful sample in memory of someone I loved very much who had died.

RIP Peter Schickele. Like many others, I encountered him via PDQ Bach (and heard him perform live) before discovering his more serious music 😺

I have always loved PDQ Bach ever since I discovered him in the '70s via the "Wurst Of" album!

I'm afraid I've never heard of Peter Schickele, PDQ Bach or The Open Window, but your description and the needle drops have me intrigued to hear the latter at least. Cheers...Pete

I think I've shown a PDQ Bach album or two in the past. It's hilarious stuff. Anyone will get the musical slapstick aspect of it, with rude sounds and funny lyrics, but the more you know about classical music, the funnier it is. The compositions are really seriously clever. Cheers!

It really is a horrific verse: But most thro’ midnight streets I hear How the youthful Harlots curse Blasts the new-born Infants tear And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse.

Motown, Vaudeville and Proto Prog. What a wild combination! Wonder what the late 60s hippies made of The Open Window? Fascinating video. Thanks Michael.

I found this album a few years ago. I knew nothing about it but got it anyway. I really enjoy it a lot. It's different from anything else I've heard before but cohesive enough to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. Definitely progressive but not necessarily rock. Fans of early ELP may enjoy it.

That's something I forgot to mention: that there are one or two spots that are reminiscent of ELP. Thanks for watching, good to hear from you!

Interesting composer, Michael. I'd never heard of Schickele but perhaps he's less exposed here in the UK. Not in any way so avant garde, the composer Laurie Johnson (best known for the original TV series theme to 'The Avengers') has also died aged 96.

PDQ Bach doesn't seem to be so well known in the UK; I suppose much of the humor is a little "American." (Such as Professor Schickele's post at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople.) The Hoffnung Music Festival might be the British equivalent. Thanks for watching!
