Extensive "liner notes" on the cover of The Faust Tapes! I remember the John Peel and Ian MacDonald contributions. In particular the latter's reference to Dylan's creation of " A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Call " in response to the Cuba Crisis.

It occurred to me when I was making this video that I had not yet read the cover of the Faust album!

Klaus Schulze 'Live' was a great release to mark the end of the first (and to my ears, most interesting) phase of his long career. He seemed to hit a second musical peak in the last decade or so of his life. Great that the copy you scored included the poster...

It was a new one to me...not sure how I missed it before. I didn't even realize that it was going to have Arthur Brown on it. Thanks for watching!

Battenberg shirt, brave choice, an endearing soft sweetness to the design. Beyond me how anyone can listen to Jethro Tull, a unit that seems to have survived decades of derision remarkably well. I wonder if they were more tolerated in the USA?

Bon Jour Michael! Great catch! As you probably know ,Tull called the sessions in France the "Chateau D'isaster-tapes"...😅 I too, saw that GG tour in -77 and remember Ray and Derek had silver sequin dresses (which we thought was a bit of a cop-out compared to when I saw them in -74 when they were more prog..) Now I must give Faust a spin, thx for wetting my Kraut appetite. Take good Care!

Thank you for the review on the JT album. I really wasn’t sure about it but I do love 70s JT. Now I may have to give it a try. Wilson really does a nice job with their catalog

Just bear in mind that it is unfinished work so it doesn't sound as full and polished as a real Jethro Tull album. That was Wilson's aim here, to let us hear exactly what is on the original tapes without any after-the-fact overdubs. Still, the lyrics and songs are incredibly brilliant, and often riotously funny.

Michael, I remember another video that you did which showed many of the Jethro Tull releases that had music from those Chateau sessions. I have many Fuast CDs but few on vinyl, and the Faust Tapes is one of the many, unfortunately. A fine find with the Klaus Live album. Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris! That must have been my video about the Warchild II LP. The story of Tull at the Château is an epic one which I only touched on...there are a lot more crazy details in the liner notes to the new album. Thanks for watching!

Cheers, Dereck! Note that the Gentle Giant is out in both green and black vinyl, so check the sticker to see which version you're getting. Amoeba in SF had one copy of each when I was there.

Hey Michael, congrats on the Faust score! I'm sure trading for it was a good way to lesson the blow, as you put it. I've done the same recently. That Schulze has been on my want list. Very cool that it incl. poster. 😄 I hope to find that some day. Thanks for the in depth explanation of The Chateau D'Herouville Sessions. It sounds very interesting. I've been on the fence about picking up The Missing Piece. The green vinyl does look pretty nice. Your sample did seem fuller to my ears. It's funny, I've got both of my kids singing Two Weeks In Spain. I started randomly popping my head in my daughters room a couple weeks ago and just singing the Two Weeks In Spain part and it caught on. Have a good week!

Hi Bill! "Two Weeks in Spain" is a catchy little number! Just right for a family singalong. The Château d'Hérouville story is an epic one, many of the wild details are recounted in the LP liner notes. Thanks for watching, all the best!

Michael, interesting haul of goodies. Two of my favorite Tull songs, ''Rainbow Blues'' and ''Glory Row'' were only released on a greatest hits package, luckily they are on my deluxe cd version of ''War Child''. Elton John's connection to that Chateau was made obvious by his album title, '' Honky Chateau''. Faust released another album, '' Patchwork'' which is a collage of Faust music from all their line-ups. It's sort of ''The Faust Tapes'' little brother, the newer pieces actually impressed me more than I expected them to, check that out. I am always impressed by Klaus Schulze's drumming style on the Ashra Tempel album, ''Join Inn'', I think some of his drumming style influenced the way that he played the keyboards.

Hi Michael! Did you know that "Rainbow Blues" was briefly a part of Tull's live set after MU came out? At the beginning of the '76 tour they were doing that and some deeper tracks from Too Old to Rock & Roll that were quickly dropped from the set. Join Inn is a very special album to me--not really my favorite musically but I have a strong attachment to it. Thanks for watching!

A Passion Play is not only my favourite Tull album, but one of my favourites by anyone. Loved hearing the additional pieces on the box set and on Nightcap, and ever since the recent alternative Warchild release I was hoping they'd do Chateau D'Isater. I thought it would just be a vinyl edition of the material on those two releases, so I'm looking forward to comparing this stripped down version to those. Not heard The Missing Piece in a long time but remember being very disappointed by it. I'll have to give my CD another listen to see what I feel about it now and whether I want to invest in the vinyl. The difference in the bass between the original and the new mix is quite noticeable in your needle drops and is an improvement. Love The Faust Tapes! And the Schulze Live is a classic too. Cheers... Pete

Hi Pete! I am very much with you on A Passion Play: a top desert island disc for sure. There's no getting around that The Missing Piece is a departure from the classic Gentle Giant sound, even on the much proggier side two. (The autocorrect on this new computer I'm using is so aggressive--it just changed that to "groggier.") I've always quite liked "Betcha Thought We Couldn't Do It" which gets an almost universal thumbs down from Giant fans. I'm glad the needle drop comparison got a good response. The original is so extremely bright that I thought the more natural balance of the remix might sound too muffled in an A-B comparison. Also the new cut is not as loud as the original. Thanks for watching!

Hey Michael, Very interesting on Jethro Tull. If Steven Wilson is doing the remastering I generally want to hear it. I loved what he did with TD's music. Ah...My Klaus 'Live' didn't include a poster...oh well, a fantastic album regardless. 🙂 Thanks as always for sharing. -Carm

Hey Michael! Yeah, I hit up a shop in Hagerstown for RSD, and got there 10 mins before they opened the doors. The wait to get in took over an hour. Needless to say, it was a drag. But I did score some shtuff (you saw it on FB). I picked up two Tull archival releases recently; The Chateau de Blargh that you talk about here, and Warchild II. Have not played either yet, but I appreciate your review - I’ll know what to listen for when I crank it up, thank you! And I might have to splurge on GG’s Missing Piece a La Steven Wilson; the needle drop shows a remarkably clearer drum sound, with much more balls (more low freq, which sounded much fuller)! And nice package. I really like “Two Weeks In Spain”; I played drums on a cover version of it with a group way back in 1978, at a graduation party (that, and Renaissance’s “Mother Russia”, both of which were so fun to do, and sounded great, but sadly we’re not recorded - well, it was 1978!) I really appreciate the needle drop - great video! Good to see you! Take care!

Hi Gary! Funny you mention "Mother Russia." The opening act at the Gentle Giant concert I mentioned where they performed the Missing Pieces side 2 tracks was Renaissance, and the thing I remember most about their set was "Mother Russia." Thanks for watching!
