Mike Pinder was central to the sound of the Moody Blues during that fantastic period of creativity that started with 'Days of Future Passed' (1967) and ended with 'Seventh Sojourn' (1972). With his departure after 'Octave' (1978) the band was never the same. Personal favourite: 'To Our Children's Children's Children' (1969). RIP Mike...
I have literally just found out about Mike's death. They were my favourite band of their time (60s - 70s). Although i am younger than their native fans, i simply loved them. I feel so sad because we have lost so many pioneers and such beautiful people. Thank you for your stream and for sharing your records. They are precious ❤ Peace ✌️
@@michaelpdawson Thank you for doing this and sharing those singles. I used to own almost all of their albums on vinyl. While i love many other bands, like Yes, Van Der Graaf Generator, even Scott Walker. I may seem subjective to say that The Moodies from a musical talented standpoint were right at the top amongst those giants, i genuinely feel that no other band were such unique people lyrically. I know, there were some who lyrically expressed the same conscious stream, but nobody else expressed it with such depth and profound emotion. Unlike most Prog Rock bands, their lyrics were/are not quite so ambiguous, dressed in nuance. They were direct while also encompassing they metaphorical, figurative terms, etc. There was plenty of nuance but what they were saying was so obvious and clear. I honestly do not find any others like them. I will be listening to their music albums over the next few days. Thanks.
Hi Gary! Glad you liked the XTC-t. When I wear a t-shirt, I'm never sure if it will even show in the frame since I do these pretty close up. Thanks for watching!
Hi Steve! Glad you enjoyed it. By contrast, that American sleeve for "The Story in Your Eyes" is on such flimsy paper that you can see the label right through the sleeve.
Amazing collection Michael. I love seeing those great picture sleeves. I was very sad when I learned Mike Pinder passed away. I always felt he was the secret sauce for the moodies. A maestro of the mellotron. I’m happy to say that I do have The single that you showed for The Story In Your Eyes/Melancholy Man. Both songs are favorites. Thanks for sharing these! R.I.P. Mike Pinder.
Hello Michael👋🏻very sad to hear this, and yes I understand we of the age are getting there, but still....😢😶🙏🏻RIP Mike(was so saddened when he left the group) I always enjoyed his work as a Moodie(always a Moodie✊🏻)....hope you are well Michael be and take care- Lis 😎🎶☮️✊🏻 Simple Game super fav!!
Hey Michael, Very nice tribute here. No doubt my earliest 'mellotronic' memories largely were from him as my dad played all this stuff way back when. Was unfamiliar with Virginia and definitely will be exploring further, beautiful. Such great pictures on these, and those jukebox tabs! Thanks for sharing these. -Carm
Thank you for callin' my attention to Virginia Astley. I used to feature A Summer Long Since Passed from this album on my radio show. Your Moody Blues singles collection in phenomenal! Did you collect them in Europe? Thanks for the Mike Pinder tribute. He was such an important part o' The Moody Blues experience.
Hi John! I did not collect the singles in Europe...many of them came from a record store I used to frequent in the '80s called Blue Meannie in El Cajon, CA. The owner would make buying trips to Europe and come back with things like these. I also got some through European dealers advertising in Goldmine magazine. Thanks for watching!
Hi Bruce! No, Virginia Astley is not related to Rick Astley, but she is related to the Who through her sister Karen, who was Pete Townshend's wife, and her brother Jon, who produced and remixed the Who catalog.
