That Tony Tuff track sounding real heavy. You can't go wrong with Yabby You, in my opinion one of Jamaica's finest producers. Great that you rate that ATTACK label amongst your favourites, considering there must be 10s & 10s of thousands of reggae/Jamaican imprint/labels out there...Just to add my first ever vinyl purchase was on the 7" Attack label, a reggae tune called 'Hold your hand' - The Starlights...Purchased 1974 with my mum...Great video...
Still the best intro in the VC. Love the Attack label too. Have to check out Johnny Clarke. Now does Attack only release reggae albums? Tony Tuff is new to me too. I just listened to the title track 'Natty Dread A Weh She Want' by Horace Andy. You are right John. He has a very good voice. Thanks for dropping the Tony Tuff and the Johnny Clarke. Really like Johnny's vocals. Dug the Horace track too. Dug em' all. Have a cool and sunny Labor Day John. Plenty of endless summer weather left to enjoy~ Rob/Boston
That Keith Rowe track was great. As was the Johnny Clarke record. I’ve been collecting reggae a while now and don’t have any of the records you showed. Like you, I also go for music that connects with the soul, and reggae really does that in spades, some of the singers are comparable to the best in the soul genre in my view. It’s easy to fall into the trap of listening to music in a kind of intellectual way but as I get older I really just go for the stuff that speaks to the heart and transports me to another time and place (escapism)
Gareth Fitzpatrick I agree, Gareth. For want of a better phrase, I like feel good music. Both soul and reggae music can be so uplifting. I like that kinda vibe. The Keith Rowe track is on the Lee Perry ‘Arkology’ CD box set. It’s pretty cheap to get hold of now - I saw a nice copy for about £8 recently. Well worth looking out for. Cheers. John
Someone was just saying (I think in the Blood & Fire group on FB) that they wished Keith Rowe had recorded a full album for Lee Perry. Brilliant find there (well they all are, of course)...I have the 12" of Natty Dread She Want and the Tony Tuff, We Want No More is the tune off that for me. Yeah it's those voices that do it (well the horns sure don't hurt, either!), lovely finds, enjoy!
Cheers Doug. I always thought that Keith Rowe just recorded that one tune for Lee Perry but is there another track that was put out under a different name?
@@6inchpianist He recorded Living My Life (as Keith Texon) which appeared on the b side of Michael (Dread) Campbell's School Girl 12" (a tune included on those Black Ark Disco Mix comps I just showed) and also was part of Keith & Tex, of Stop That Train fame...
Some nice shows / finds there John , you can't go wrong with Johnny Clarke or Horace Andy . I agree about Groovy Situation - Keith Rowe it's a classic Lee Perry production ( i am a bit of a Perry/ Black Ark nut ). I have been playing tons of Roots Reggae & Dub myself recently ... especially Lee Perry solo stuff & productions and Augustus Pablo , plus studio one bits .
RICHARD ROWLAND Hi Richard. Yeah, I’ve been on a bit of a roots reggae kick too. There’re a lot of big Lee Perry records that I still need. Gotta get my act together! Cheers. John
You are still doing it, the 11 minute quickie. You might save money by going to Jamaica and shipping a thousand or three back. I'm near there and pick up large hauls of ''reggae mints' for peanuts now and then. Backing music to Horace is sweet and he had a rare, tolerable, male voice in that genre.
mike tomlin Too fast. Too slow. There’s no pleasing some people, eh? 😉 Or is it the inaccurate description that is the issue? Anyway, glad you liked the Horace Andy tune. 👍
@@6inchpianist Not that inaccurate as all your quick videos lack a quick qualia. It presents as a- don't panic this will be over soon approach, a UK self depreciation tactic. What I like most about Horace is the name, Horace! But no one likes an Andy, as you my know. One up from Trevor or Kevin.
Lovely stuff John, get yourself over to SJ in Stratford, he's got loads of Reggae at the moment...in case you were wondering, I'm not on commission here!..lol😉
