Welcome to Black Love: The Interviews! In this 2016 interview from the first season of Black Love Doc, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon invite us to learn about how their love story began, what being committed in marriage means for them and the greatest lessons learned during their marriage.
“Black Love,” from filmmakers Codie Elaine Oliver and Tommy Oliver, displays “the other side of love that exists, that no one is showing”. Focusing on real couples from all walks of life and celebrity couples, the docu-series shares honest, emotional and sometimes cringe-worthy always-true love stories. The couples talk about how their relationships began, the road to the altar, life after children and all of the other obstacles they may have faced to make their marriages stronger than ever. For the first time, the long form interviews from each couple are being presented with new insights from Codie Elaine Oliver to provide a new experience for those familiar or new to the series.

I enjoyed listening to this beautiful couple. ❤ These are the black married interviews we need more of. When she started talking about growing old together in marriage, now that's real. Ppl think they will be young looking forever, and that's not the case. Marriage is all about going through sickness and health for better or worse. This generations wants the wedding and not the marriage.

Yes...putting this 'out there' is so essential! Thank you for showing us black relationships that are God-influenced. Living in the same space is not easy because we're so self-absorbed. We do need God to pilot our marriages. He will allow us to die to self. We're on the way to our 33rd year of marriage...only through God's grace. Congrats to Viola and Julius. I'm hunting down the new autobio!

Here I am listening to this, sick 😫 and looking forward to getting better. Thinking about my baby and the way how he loves me and looks at me like he's seeing me for the first time, each and every time, lol. Making me 😊 blush and giggle 🤭. Emotional availability. I admire their relationship so much. Julius sounds like a great guy ,him being so secure with himself , raising his kids on his own,supportive of his spouse, thats a man not hard to be loved. I wonder what happen in his previous marriages that it didnt last? I mean viola talked about her journey on becoming self aware and ready to be in a healthy relationship and how that process went for her.but julius, was that a process for him? I wished you asked him that

I read/listened/got lost in your wonderful book, I was reared in Bklyn NY, I can related to your childhood experiences!!! Hmm... He told us something that he didn't actually tell us. He wanted "the best." He wanted someone special and powerful. He was tired of "regular" women. There is a growing trend of men who shop for women who will make them feel like somebody.

Please don't go more then fifteen minutes without talking to me when you are upset just because it's a choice and the longer we stay away from each other for some difference of a thought gives room for other thoughts to form. Time out is is better for us rather than being in a way that we use to be. My silence is everything and it's not personal it's a way to be for all things whether good or bad I still love and is always open to receive it, don't mean to be... it's how I have learned to live and be with who people are.
