I’ve always felt that but I never knew what it was or how to convey it. Just thinking on the surface of what it means is a very beautiful gift from the heavens. To have the ability of not bogging ourselves down with all the useless, petty and worthless people we’ve met in order to concentrate on the ones we have yet to discover has to be one of the best gifts to receive in this wonderful journey called life. Especially knowing that some of them will in fact love us as much or even more than we’ll love them!!!! Out

Enjoyed this interview. She's been through it. I'm proud of .her, but her work is not my go-to because there's little light. Seems as if Viola select roles that reflective of her personal damages and tragedies. I rarely enjoy her movies because they are too dark and depressive. I'm eager to see her play more than tragic figures beaten up by life. She's beautiful and brilliant at her craft, it would be such a joy to watch her embody a woman without so much baggage and callousness.

So powerful. I appreciate how real she is about how she hasn’t “arrived” yet. I feel like in a lot of interviews people give off this energy as if they’ve gotten past certain things that we all grapple with as humans, but she’s speaking realness in the sense that she’s still a work in progress. She’s still dealing with the human emotions that we all go through and haven’t mastered yet unlike some people that make it seem like they’ve figured it out.

I agree COMPLETELY with Viola. Her stating about her parents: They did the best they could with what they had. This is exactly what helped me to move forward and forgive my parents. Exactly. So many people will not delve into their unresolved childhood issues. It - must - be - done! It must be. To move forward, one must go back and think, ponder, remember, and cry it out. Journaling is profoundly cathartic for this reason. It is something most therapists strongly recommend. I do as well. It is what brought peace to my heart and soul. I have forgiven my parents, and it was one of the most painful, difficult and emotionally exhausting things I - ever - had to do. Bravo, Viola! I think you are an awesome person. I am very proud of you, and I am grateful you are on this Earth to lead us as we walk a similar healing journey as you. May God bless us all. 🙏

This interview was everything. Her discussion of colorism really hit home as a dark skinned Black woman. I suffered alot of abuse during my middle school years, I didn't go to the majority Black high school most of my classmate went to. I opted to go where the city assigned me where the population of Black student was very low. I never, ever suffered any colorism while I was there. I was part of a multicultural society where everyone just wanted to work hard, not worry about hair, clothes, or skin tone. It was such a blessing I ended up where I did, but I felt like an abused puppy at first.

Wow. Your story sounds similiar to mine. I have endured years of colorism abuse from people. It took me up until my 30s to overcome it. I pray for younger darkskin women who are going through this. I know the effects it can have on your self image overall. I find that many blk ppl are indeed obsessed with skintone, the way a person dresses, hair and whether you are "ballin" or not. Once I stopped associating with blk ppl who were consumed with these things, honestly colorism doesnt even cross my mind anymore. Believe me, i endured years of abuse from ppl. But one thing I learned is that its many ppl who enjoy bullying darker ppl. So I will never ever let them see me sweat. Many women will try so hard to make you uncomfortable. You cant show weakess or insecurity around lightskin women. Thats what they want us to do. AVOID them alltogethr if you can. I also dont get on social media and avoid discussions of colorism alltogether. This will help you to not think about it as much and avoid the triggers where your mind takes you back the experiences. Its crazy because I was obsessed over this colorism stuff now I dont even think about my skintone. I also dont following biracial and WW on youtube unless its motivation or professional content. Other than that I prefer to follow brown and dark skin BW. You will feel free from colorism and the shackles of trauma that blk ppl want to put on each other. Oh and I forgot to add. I also work around highly professional men and women from ALL backgrounds. Do not just work around ALL blks. These is where you will see that you may think about colorism more. Hope this helps!

@@Nekole1 I'm at the age where none of this bothers me anymore, but her discussion definitely triggered something in me. I just left the Black community altogether. It was so dysfunctional, there was nothing I could gain from it. Also, the city I'm from was so expensive, it was cheaper to live somewhere else. As far a lighter skinned women, my mom is one so are two of my very best lifelong friends. I only had a problem with the men. They were just horrible. Of course, when I got older and filled out I got alot of attention from them, but the damage was already done; mentally and physically I was never really attracted to them like that. I never really gave any thought about my complexion after middle school. I didn't have people in my ear obsessing about it all the time. It was just noise, and since that noise was gone, I finally had peace. I was blessed to have really awesome friends from all backgrounds; we were like family. Something I could never get in my own community at the time. What a shame. I don't know whose to blame, the White man I suppose, but ain't nary one of those households had a White man living in it, shit much less a Black man, let's keep it real. Black folk just pass down this toxicity from one generation to the next. I had to be done.

We love you Viola. My grandmother on my dad side name was Viola. She got hit by a train when my dad was a kid. She was also darker than a brown paper bag. I wish she got to be here to see her kids grow up and become adults. She deserved that. But I know she’s an ancestor speaking to my dad and the rest of her kids clearly. Charlamagne is really the goat, he’s grown so much in his career. It’s usually the questions that he asks and how he’s able to carry an interview for me, but this one he really was just mostly sitting back and listening letting Angela and envy have it. And you can tell when someone like a viola comes into the show he’s mostly observant and intrigued. It’s super amazing to watch.

Mrs Davis hit the nail on the head ,when she said ,she prayed for her husband, and got exactly what she prayed for ,but still thinks ,he had a fault...I did the same thing prayed for a man who'll treat me like not just a queen, but treat me royal ,I got him and run didn't know how to handle his glory towards me ,but at that time I was young 23 yeats old, so I didn't fully understand, what all this glory should feel like ,even though my parents had that glory ,I'm 53 now and I understand that glory and know that I would understand all the love ,care understanding, patience, respect, loyalty, kindness, warmth forgiveness, in one person ,he passed away ,7 years ago ,that was the man I prayed for who would give me the moon and the sun ,moral of the story is don't asked God for things you're not ready for ..because I wasn't at that time .

She made me feel so seen, and took a few pics with me and we laughed liked Aunty and Nephew. I was so nervous but she hugged me and eased my fears & excitement over meeting her. Y'all, what u see right here is the real, awesome her. But even this doesn't compare to being in her presence and feeling her beautiful, inspiring authenticity. I have to say Ms. Viola...I’m a 34 yo black woman from South Africa and I hope you read this or at the very least someone from your team reads this but I was shit scared listening to you, terrified in-fact and I didn’t expect to feel this way. This interview hit me like a ton of bricks because EVERYTHING And I mean EVERYTHING you said and experienced including how your dad apologised to your mom and colourism etc was like listening to a older version of myself that I know I can be but not sure if and how I can become her. I don’t know if I’m making sense but I feel like I’m listening and looking at who I can become and that makes me very positive and also weary that I might to become her. I’m shocked that you experienced everything I’ve ever experienced and yet you made it out alive and you are still standing. I’m gonna go cry now. Thank you.

Viola Davis' responses in this interview were articulated in such a rich and legato manner. Her experiences from her early childhood, young adult life, wife, and, now, as a famous actress, spoke to me with such power, such meaning and so much love. When this interview ended, I was gasping for air to breathe because her responses filled me up with so much power and energy and I felt as if I were running as fast I could to use my own life experiences as lessons for others, as this beautiful melanated sister has and is still doing. This was a heart wrenching and wonderful interview that fed my soul, today. Thank you, The Breakfast Club, and thank you Mrs. Viola Davis, my silent mentor whom I pray to meet in person one day as she had the opportunity to meet with the great legendary, Cicely Tyson.
