Me and my brothers all went to high school in Detroit.The school we went to wasn,t as violent as the other schools, we never had to go through metal detectors upon arrival, our bookbags weren,t always searched and the only time they did locker searches was if somebody had gotten a firearm in the building.There was that back door, you know the one nobody watched so the kids skipping classes could re enter the school without getting caught, that is until they chained it.And no student ever physically fought with a teacher or Principal anywhere in school, we knew better not to raise our hands at adults.
I got to Stevenson high school in Livonia, and Churchill is very different than us. But you know what? It's not the schools that matter, it's the people you put in them. A fight is a fight, let's move up.
Since when do kids go to jail for fighting in HS? Shit back in my day you got sent to the principals office and got put on trash duty or in school suspension. 🤷🏿♂️

Every high school has fights...frankly, teenagers have been impulsive and aggressive for forever. It's too bad that the news had to focus on this one incident, completely ignoring all the good things that go on at Churchill. We have kids winning awards at the state level and beyond in music, mathematics and chemistry, and the magnet programs in math/science and performing arts add to a diverse student body that is vibrant and caring. Don't let this one story make you think you know what Livonia Churchill is like.
LPS is no stranger to violence at school. A couple of years ago we had a teen illegally attending LPS at Franklin HS, who nearly killed another student in the lunch room. Even more recently we had 2 teachers removed from the classroom for abusing non-verbal 4-5 year old special education kids. Rather than swiftly addressing the issue, we get a bucket load of white-wash, and another recitation of how everything is great.
you have precisely three incidents here. I'm sure there are more, but if you're focused on the negative, then that is what you will see. I choose to celebrate the wonderful things I see my children and their friends doing every day. I hear weekly of reports of kids winning awards and succeeding. I personally watch a large group of music kids represent their school well both in their performance and in their behavior. I see many kids accepting and caring for others. I see these things with my own eyes and that's not whitewash...that is MY reality. I grew up in a school where fights, drug dealers, overdoses and police visits were an every day occurrence, so I know what that looks like. Churchill isn't perfect, but it's a good place with good kids, if you focus your gaze in the right direction.
Tina ODonnell I guarantee you that no incident this disturbing has happened in Novi, Northville or Plymouth in the past few years. Livonia schools are in decline and this kind of behavior is only going to increase when they go to schools of choice.
Brock Landers I am a product of the Livonia Public Schools (Bentley - 1976) and the University of Michigan. Almost all of the people that I associated with in high school went on to earn college degrees, and have successful careers. Many still choose to live and raise their children here. My kids were all fortunate to earn a placement in the ACAT, MCAT, MSC and Global Ed. programs that the district offers. A physician parent of one of their classmates was the product of Cranbrook. He told me that our kids were getting an education equivalent to Cranbrook in a public school setting. There is nothing wrong with the education that LPS offers. There will be fights wherever testosterone flows freely, including such sanctuaries as Plymouth, Northville, Grosse Pointe, Bloomfield Hills etc. If not today, then some day in the near future. Kids on average today are bigger and stronger than ever, making school yard fights appear shockingly violent. A cafeteria just adds an air of professional wrestling. For all of you race baiters, my kids have friends who are black, Muslim, Asian etc. They are not the kids starting this crap.
I went to this high school and yes there was fights but nothing like it is now, and big deal if they are black it happens everywhere with blacks, whites,hispanic whatever you want to say, fights happen
I went to Churchill and I remember this fight, the funny part is the kid they interviewed at 0:59 wasn't even there he was skipping class and smoking a cig at the time and while walking back someone bumped into him and told em the story of the fight, then the news saw him as he was making his way back inside and interviewed him
How do you know that? He probably was there you don’t exactly know what happened so instead of jumping the gun, you need to think twice before saying things. Yes you might’ve went there but I don’t think you were there at the time he probably was.
@@TPSAM7560 The kids who fought were in my grade so def went there at the time lol, the kid who talked there was either 2 or 3 grades above me, but I didn't personally see the fight wasn't in that lunch period. And I "know that" because that's exactly what he told me shortly after the interview, he was bragging about it that he bull-shitted his way through the interview, lol so I'm just repeating what he said like 8 years ago man no need to get all mad about it. I mean he coulda even lied to me about it, but 100% that's what he said happened :)

I went to Churchill when it was 100% white. Never saw one fight in 3 years. It was the nicest safest school imaginable. But hey, now we have diversity. yippie.

bro this is every other day at my high school in New York we've had teachers get knocked out and sent to the hospital because they got in the middle of a fight between students
Grew up in Livonia and I can tell you exactly how it is. Franklin and Churchill are trash high schools with trashy behavior going on and Stevenson is a good high school.
I bet these kids do not live in Livonia. It's a shame that the government forces Livonia schools to allow Westland kids to attend. The Livonia schools that are doing poorly are the schools that have Westland kids attending. You should only be allowed to attend the school in the city you live in.
Westland kids attended Churchill when I attended 30 years ago. It was actually how the districts ran back then. Not a school choice thing like it is now.

Lemme tell yall some facts about livonia...and this is coming from a colored person who grew up in the nice part of livonia. I lived 2 miles from Stevenson but had to attend churchill even though it was much further. Churchill is on the border of westland and livonia. I graduated in 2008 and around this time a lot of students from Detroit recently moved to the apartments next to churchill. The parent(s) wanted to give their kids a better life than Detroit. However the kids were not having it, they hated it bc it was all white kids. Were the white kids racist towards them? I would say 50/50. And the 50% that were, were not outwardly racist, more behind their back. But in turn this created a black only cliques. Much like the outside world and racism, a large divide was created. However, I graduated before social media and cell phones. Things have changed dramatically now. No one can get away with anything anymore. There was a shop teacher there that would make the most racist jokes. How can I prove it? I can't. But if a teacher made a joke like that today, you bet your ass a kid would record it and hed get fired (or whatver the midwest version of canceled is).
Did you ever know any black people who hated white people? Would you say it was 50/50 and that 50% of the racist blacks were not outwardly racist? Or is every black soul filled with love for their fellow human beings?

Nothing happened to livonia, fights happened all the time, just because the news focused on this one fight doesn't mean anything. Also its freshmen, freshmen are stupid.
got that right. i was there late 80s/early 90s and we had fights, but the minute a teacher or hall monitor showed up, it was over...and no teacher or hall monitor ever got hurt. we had a handful of blacks in the school but they certainly weren't trouble makers.
***** agreed. i moved out of livonia in 98 but still have ties there. i've heard that there's a cop on the grounds at all times but not sure how true that is.

This is what happens when you raise your kids the wrong way. In today's world if your kid is bad then parents take there cell phones from them for 20 minutes lol. Back in the late 70s and early 80s if we did something wrong our dad would bash our heads in or knock a few of our teeth out, or our mother would grab whatever she could get her hands on a beat you till you were half dead then when you came back too she would beat you again till you were half dead, You better believe after a few times you learn your lesson real quick and you grow up to be an honorable, respectfully person in life. These young kids and young adults in 2023 are way out of hand because of the way there parents bring them up there are no more paddling. They just don't know how to raise a kid today. It's called tough love. also the judiciary system in today's world does not impose any harsh jail time on kids or young adults who commit hardcore crimes. This world is heading for a disaster.
