So happy to share this video with you. I've been working hard to learn this beautiful Concertino in Hungarian Style, also called Concertino in Ungarischer Weise. Lots of shifting between 1st and 3rd position. And I'm working on improving my tone, especially on the E string. There are many things that could still be improved but at this moment this is the very best I can play it. And so I will start working on something else now, to keep playing with fresh energies. :-)
Sheet music and backing track used: musescore.com/...

-- WHO AM I --
I'm Mariko Barra and I've started to play the violin in June 2015. I took up the violin when I was 30 years old. Learning to play the violin as an adult has its challenges of course, like getting used to holding the violin and bow without feeling pain or discomfort, finding the time to practice every day, stick with it until you can produce a decent sound, etc. Despite the challenges, my violin adventure has been so much fun!! And that is why I want to share with you on my channel my violin progress as an adult learner. It really is possible to learn to play the violin, even without the possibility to have private violin lessons. At first I've learned on my own with the help of RU-vid tutorials and several forums. Now I'm learning through video exchange with violinist Richard Amoroso from Artistworks (artistworks.co.... I like that way of learning very much since it's very personalized, the feedback is great and there are so many lessons in the program. It makes my violin adventure easier and gives me more stability.

My Gracious Marikoli....you amaze me with your playing for such a very short time. Your concertino is coming along with leaps and bounds. I have said this to you many times...you have perfect bow hold and left hand hand frame. I am jealous and adore that you have that so on spot. Yes...it is close to being spot on with a few adjustments. I know when you develop vibrato it too will bring some joy within your personal enjoyment. I so loved listening and watching...watched two times. GIRL, YOU ARE SLAYING violin playing.....BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!

Hi Tourey, thank you so much for your lovely comments! :-) I've worked hard on my bow hold and left hand frame and I'm very happy it shows. :-) Now I'm still working every day to draw straight bows and have a flexible bow hand when doing bow changes. Being able to use a nice vibrato in my pieces would be so wonderful indeed!! I can do pretty nice vibrato when I do long slow bows. But as soon as I try it in a piece it doesn't sound that good and it doesn't feel relaxed. But vibrato takes a lot of patience so I'm sure that when I keep practicing patiently in a couple of months I will be able to use the vibrato in my pieces that I hear in my mind. I would be totally thrilled!!! Thanks again for watching and commenting!! :-)

Me too. I am 64 and has arthritis from many injuries, so I hope I can do it. But I want to play fiddle music. 😊

My daughter played this on her own when she was 16 (after few years in a music school) and she says it's difficult and she could not fix the last part. You are doing great job, but one month is obviously not enough for the Concertino.

Hi Toma, indeed it's not easy and I can't play it as well as I wish... But it's the best I can at the moment. I worked on this piece for 2 months. And it's not much use for me to keep practicing the same piece over and over if I don't feel improvement anymore. I might take it up again in the future. I always feel that I progress much better when I work on something new because then I'm more motivated and interested. After working on something for a couple of weeks I get bored with it and progress isn't happening anymore. So I move on to something new. ;-) Is your daughter still playing?

Some times, but she could not find a slower accompaniment to Rieding.

I used this sheet music also for accompaniment musescore.com/user/102178/scores/1152866. One can change the speed of the accompaniment as well. Hope this helps. Enjoy! :-)

@@ViolinAdventures I wonder if the sound on musescore gets more natural if I pay "GoPro"? I mean, piano alike.

Probably won't answer PCS video is old but does anyone know what her earpiece is for? I didn't know she was listening to music and playing along with it?
@ViolinAdventures
@ViolinAdventures Год назад
Hi, yes I was listening to the music and playing along. That way I could record only the violin sound and later merge it back with the accompaniment. The resulting sound quality is better for recording than having the accompaniment play out loud and record that also. Hope it makes sense. 😊

@ViolinAdventures 6 лет назад
Hi, thanks so much for your honest comments. :-) I do have to work on my intonation and I am constantly working on it. So I hope it will get better soon. I have now started working on arpeggios in 3 octaves and I am sure it will help me to improve my intonation. Well, you can be the judge of it in my future videos ;-)
