I started playing the violin as an adult, in June 2015. Since, there is no violin teacher close to where I live, I am learning through RU-vid videos, forums and books about violin playing. It’s quite some journey. I am soooo excited that I finally am playing the violin and I’d love to share what I learned with others who are learning to play the violin too.

As a child and teenager I have been playing the clarinet and learned to read music. Being able to read music is a great help now of course. So, I didn’t have to start from zero when I first took up the violin.

I will be sharing videos about my violin progress, including pieces from Suzuki books, etudes from Wohlfahrt, Pracht, Sitt and others, popular fiddle tunes, and much more.

To follow my violin progress or have a chat with other adult violinists, please visit my website www.violinadventures.com

Hi Marikoli! I'm also an adult violin learner (31 years old). I've been playing the violin for 1 year and a half. I've watched many of your videos, and your playing is truly beautiful. Your journey serves as a constant reminder to me of the rewards of hard work. I hope to play like you someday. It seems you're no longer actively playing the violin, please know that you continue to inspire not only me but also countless others. I have no doubt that you will apply the same dedication and effort you demonstrated in your violin journey to whatever activity you choose to pursue. Wishing you happy days always! Hugs! 🥰

Thanks so much for your super kind comment! 😊🙏 You're right, I'm not playing the violin anymore - sadly I injured my left wrist and it hurts when I play the violin... BUT, this month I've started playing the cello. 😍 Since it has a different positioning for me left wrist, playing the cello doesn't hurt. And it's just wonderful and makes me very happy to be able to learn to play another string instrument. Very happy to hear you're learning to play the violin. I hope it's going really well for you and giving you much joy! What are you working on now?

Hi Marikoli! I'm sorry to hear about your wrist, but it's fantastic that you've found joy in learning to play the cello, without feeling any pain. It's a beautiful instrument. Perhaps, one day, you could share a bit of your musical journey with the cello with us! ☺ As for me, I'm currently working on the first movement of Vivaldi's A minor Concerto. It's quite challenging, and I feel it might be a bit above my current skill level. But since it's one of my favorite concertos, I'm fully enjoying the learning process. Best of luck with the cello! 😁

@@juan_ch3244 Thanks so much! Playing the cello makes me very happy. And yes, I've been thinking about sharing some of my playing. I might in the near future. 😊 Vivaldi's A minor Concerto is so fun to play! If you're enjoying it so much, it can push you to progress faster, because you're very motivated to learning it. Wish you good luck with the concerto!! 🤩

@ViolinAdventures
@ViolinAdventures Год назад
Hi, yes I was listening to the music and playing along. That way I could record only the violin sound and later merge it back with the accompaniment. The resulting sound quality is better for recording than having the accompaniment play out loud and record that also. Hope it makes sense. 😊

Bravo. I don't yet play violin. so have no idea of the challenges you face. I play many brass and woodwind instruments and am learning the piano but I have had my eye on the violin for some time.. It is becoming obvious from the many vids I have watched that intonation is really the biggest challenge you face. I'm not trying to diminish the other challenges for there clearly are many, but from a listeners perspective, that appears to be the main issue.
@ViolinAdventures
@ViolinAdventures Год назад
Thank you! 😊 Yes, you are right about that. Intonation is the biggest challenge. Though producing a nice sound is challenging too. 😅 If you ever decide to play the violin, I hope you'll have fun with it! And enjoy playing all your other instruments!

@@ViolinAdventures oh, boy... not so good. My wrist started to hurt on my fingering hand (left hand). I'm pretty sure I'm holding it correctly, but my wrist became so sore. I haven't picked it up in probably a month. Or more.
@ViolinAdventures
@ViolinAdventures Год назад
@@urwholefamilydied Oh I'm sooo sorry! Please be very careful. My wrist started hurting some time before I created this video, but I ignored it and just kept practicing. I thought the pain would go away, but it only got worse. I had to completely stop playing. After a year, finally the pain was completely gone. But I haven't started again yet. It's still a weak spot and as soon as I play, the pain comes back. I've always had a weak wrist, but I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't have a teacher to correct me that made it worse. I don't want to discourage you. I just want to let you know that this is something to take seriously. If you want to keep playing, I would recommend taking at least a couple of in-person lessons to work specifically on the right posture and what you can do to avoid wrist issues.

You have made such an incredible progress Mariko! Did you have any musical background or knowledge about reading sheet music before starting your journey? I would love to play the violin too. However, I fear that my lack of musical knowledge will be a great obstacle for my learning.
@ViolinAdventures
@ViolinAdventures 3 года назад
Hi Catlov3r, thanks for your question! I did have a musical background. I learned to play the clarinet before. It did help that I already knew how to read notes and understand the rhythms. But if you have no musical knowledge you can still learn to play the violin. Maybe it'll go a bit slower at first but you can certainly do it! Some learn to play the violin without reading music, they just play by ear (that's how the Suzuki method works). But eventually it's great for everybody to learn to read music sheets. You could follow a course to learn to read the music and at the same time start with easy songs on the violin. That's how many do it! One of the sources you could check out is this one: violinspiration.com/ Julia is a very nice teacher and has many lessons for complete beginners, also about music theory. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!
