Here's my new violin progress video. After some fast songs, I felt like playing something slower again. I really enjoy learning slow pieces and this movement from Vivaldi's Winter is very nice. I've been working to improve my tone. I can tell you at first this piece sounded really scratchy and horrible, especially in the higher positions. I've also been working on dynamics, hope it shows.
Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks so much :-) I'll leave Vivaldi Summer for later. I'm now working on other things. ;-)

Nice job on this piece! Beautiful trills😊 I loved that sustained note at the end, your vibrato shines through in that part😉 lovely to hear you play!

Thank you so much!! I still seem to be only able to do vibrato on long notes. I still have a hard time to play with vibrato on shorter notes, but I will keep trying ;-)

You're doing well with the higher positions! Still a few notes out of tune (listening is the key!) but you seem a lot more comfortable and more in tune up there than anyone else I've seen after two-and-a-half years. This is not an easy piece! I generally agree with your fingerings, and disagree with Jose's advice: don't try to stick to first position, use whatever avoids unnecessary shifts. The hardest time to play in tune is immediately after shifting. This is a little faster than the average performance, which means you can afford to slow down a bit and make it a little easier on yourself. (Also, it would allow for longer bows.) I'd say the next thing to work on is articulation when changing bow strokes. Think legato throughout, with extra attention to it when crossing strings.

One fingering idea to try out that MIGHT make it easier: at the end of measure 5, instead of shifting up to 4th position on the G, shift a little earlier, before the three 16th notes. You'd be able to use your third finger's place on the F as a reference point for placing your second finger on the B-flat, and then wouldn't have to shift on the big upward leap to the high G. This may or may not make it easier, but I think it's worthwhile to try a few different fingerings to see what works best for you.

Thanks so much for your comments! I like to shift, I still have trouble with the correct intonation but I'm sure it will get better. I'm working hard to improve that. :-) And indeed, I played the piece a bit too fast. Thanks for your suggestions, I will try the other fingering which seems much easier indeed and I will play a little slower. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some detailed advice!

Dearest Marikoli, the reason that I advised you to look to the video of Midori Seiler is that you can see very clear that she is playing almost in the first position, this is difficult enough, it is unnecessary to play a piece more complicated as it is. Midori Seiler is professor for baroque music in Germany. Much success!!!!

Dearest Marikoli, Your bowing in this beautiful but very difficult piece is excellent! To play in tune is not easy but you know what I like to say: play as much as possible in the first position. Watch the video played by Midori Seiler and Academy of Ancient Music Berlin. Have a wonderful day!!!!!

Really good Marikoli. :-) Using self appraisal, how do you feel about your progress after 2 years, 5months ? regards, Phil

Thank you very much Phil! I'm very happy with my progress so far. Of course I can see many things that need work, but I can also appreciate what I have learned so far. I'm very happy with where my shifting is at the moment and with my left hand shape and coordination. It's just that I never get to the point to what I want the piece to sound like. I can get it to sound OK, but not nice enough to really enjoy listening to it. I'm working hard on having a nicer tone, but it will probable take much more time to develop that. ;-)

Yes time it will take! :-) Then you want better violin. Then you need to play better to do it justice. Then you get better. Then you want even better violin and so on and so on :-)) I think you're doing really well :-)
