China is making MRI machines at cost of 20 - 30% only , when compared with imported machines . This is why that MRI machines are widely available even in small hospitals now in China . This may rise another " Overcapacity " compliant from Yellen !
@jerrystakeonchina799
@jerrystakeonchina799 3 дня назад
This is true - in my case, I didn't need an MRI, the Ultrasound was all I needed and, when I needed that, it was done within 30 minutes of the request by the doctor. The results were in my hand less than 20 minutes after that and within 30 minutes of that, I was in a hospital bed - can't complain about that service - especially when the entire proces at that time had only cost me 581 RMB, about $85 USD. The Ultrasound sectino had 8 rooms, all had 20 minute or so queues - Over-capacity? Not for 1.4 billion people!

Good to see you are up and about, Jerry, Same goes with the Luke and Fernando. I think for the soreness tablets, you can ask the doctor whether you really need it. What I means is take it as and when needed. Some drugs do not need to finish off the course given. As for the Chinese healthcare system, it is really good, in terms of speed, waiting time (trying to minimising as much as possible) in correlation with the population against the number of doctors/medical officers in a hospital or a total population of doctors/medical officers in a city/town. The consultation (before and after tests), tests needed, results/outcome from the tests done, and prescription for medication. USA.... from what I understand from my ex-colleagues, it is getting worse, and costs is also going up. Insurance seems to be like a scam. China - I think there are monitoring and controls in terms of the service and costs. Henceforth, the general public of China is very happy with the overall situation, including healthcare service

I was wondering about your absence, glad to know you are ok. Healthcare in China improved by leaps & bounds compared to 13-14 yrs ago. In Malaysia, to do a full blood test and consultation, it takes about 2.5 hrs in private hospital. Blood test results take about an hour. Wait time to take blood around 10-15 mins depending on the number of people. Waiting time for consultation about slightly over an hour and consultation with doctor probably 10 mins. Thus in total about 2hrs 15-30 mins. In government clinics, probably 3 hrs. For minor test like blood or ecg, there isnt a need to go to govt hospitals, unless there is no govt clinic nearby. For bigger tests or more serious problems, the clinic will refer you to the govt hospital and the waiting period about 4-6 weeks. Once your are in hospital, should you be required to take more tests, you may have to wait another 4-6 weeks but they will take whatever tests possible on that day. However, if you are in critical condition, then you will be sent to emergency. Govt hospitals here relatively cheap. Govt clinic used to be only RM1 (USD 25-30 cents) for whatever including medicine but i do not know how much it is now since the last time i went to a clinic was like 6-7 yrs ago. Medicine in govt hospitals used to cost about RM5 only (USD1.30). Hows that for cheap?? 😊 My only complain was waiting time too long, in Malaysia about 3 hours and in China probably 4 hrs (13 yrs ago). Having said this, after i discovered that it is worse in the US & UK in terms of waiting time & costs, I guess I cant complain. I understand that in the US, an ambulance cost USD1,000. In Msia costs about RM300 for normal ambulance and RM350 for Covid infected patient (Xchange rate today USD1 : 4.2 - used to be 4.7). Just fyi, when the federal govt requested for 3rd vaccine for Covid, the govt offerred Pfizer and guess what, overwhelming majority didnt want to take it but when the State govt gave Sinovac, it was packed lol. I know because i went for the 3rd shot at clinics and it was virtually empty, thus i cancelled. We have an apps system where if you cancel, you will be given another date and location. In total i cancelled 4 times because in all the 4 times, the clinic was empty and the nurse told me, its because it was Pfizer. Finally, the State govt offerred Sinovac and everyone i know, went for it and it was packed. So despite all the propaganda by Pfizer to smear Sinovac, the fact of the matter was Pfizer did cause complications especially for people above 50 yrs old. Overall, I would say Msia did quite a good job and i was kind of glad i wasnt back in China then 😅.
@jerrystakeonchina799
@jerrystakeonchina799 3 дня назад
China handled Covid exceptionally well in my opinion - yes, there were mistakes that affected a few million people here and there but overall, this was a 1,4 billion population kept safe and almost all given free vaccines before the country opened up again - I think the opening was a little chaotic and might have been better staggered but that's just an opinion, what actually happened was that, in the space of three weeks, we went from knowing no one who had had covid in the preceding three years to not knowing anyone who hadn't had it by Christmas - and Chinese New Year was a total success - which I think might have been the plan, life was normal by the time the big holiday where most people travel and group toter came around - it might have been genius I was watching, rather than disorganisation - I'll never know!
@PL22-JudgeDredd

@@jerrystakeonchina799 Agreed that China handled it well, just that Msia opened up 1/2 year earlier 🤭. The lockdown was about slightly over 2 yrs. The people who were having a great time were probably the delivery guys and they made life easier for everyone.

Australia is trying/hoping to copy US and UK examples. The government is always trying to privatise and make it more profitable to cover ever increasing costs. China also supports traditional medicines alongside modern medicine. Fresh fruit and vegetables, and exercise are all cheap and encouraged. So different. Healthcare is a human right and one of the cornerstones of paying taxes and having governments.

Good to know you are getting better Jerry and hope you don't have any further problems. Medical care here in China is way better than in England. Don't have to wait for weeks or months to get diagnosed or operated on. I would like to get health insurance but my age prevents that. Western insurance companies charge a lot for cover. I do have over 400,000 RMB in the bank which I don't need to touch as I live on my U.K government and Air Force pensions. My wife will be getting her pension soon and she can also use her health insurance to pay for some of my treatment. I have been in hospital 3 times since 2015.The first time I was admitted immediately and operated on within the hour even though it wasn't a serious medical problem. Spent 5 days in there and it cost me 5,000 RMB. Second time in 2018 was for a hernia operation. An hernia which caused a cricket ball sized lump in my groin. Went to the hospital nearby and was admitted straight away. Had tests over the weekend and the operation on the Monday. The surgeon spoke good English as did some of the doctors and nurses. Spent 7 days in the ward after the operation but could walk about and go outside. Cost me 17,000 Rmb but the school's insurance repaid me 15K. Third time was this year when I fell and fractured my shoulder. Admitted immediately but did not need an operation. Stayed for 4 nights and had loads of X-Rays and MRI scans with the total cost, including medicine, coming to 2,000 RMB. Needed to wear a sling for three months. The only gripe I have is the little additions they like to use such as incense and hot bandages. I refused them as I thought they were pointless and just money grabbing items. One thing about U.K hospitals is that they provide food whereas here your relative has to bring it in.
@jerrystakeonchina799
@jerrystakeonchina799 3 дня назад
We had food provided and we ordered it one day as a kind of social experiement - it was adequate and extremely cheap but not all that tasty. It also arrived each day 50 minutes early and not too hot! Other than that and a lack of continuous sleep, becuase of disturbances, it was not as distressing an event as I would have expected

It's a relief to know you're doing well, Jerry. The news of your thrombosis was quite alarming. Regarding China's healthcare, have you produced a video on that topic? How does it function? I live in New Zealand, where the healthcare system is publicly funded by the government. However, it's perpetually in a state of crisis due to absurdly long wait times at emergency rooms, and procedures are often delayed for weeks, months, or in extreme cases, years. Additionally, there's a constant shortage of nurses, doctors, and bed space. It seems to be an ongoing crisis every election cycle. So, how does it compare to China? As a socialist country, does China have a fully subsidized healthcare system?

Two years ago I had the same sort of problem with my leg, but with the Great Saphenous Vein partially collapsing and multiple Emboli. I am really glad to know that you are on the way to full recovery. I am guessing that you had a DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis) because had the clots been in your arteries, this would have led to lower limb Gangrene. DVT IS LIFE THREATENING if the clots get detached and then the next stop is the heart, then the lungs and back to the heart before being pumped to other parts of the body, including the brain. Think of it as a plumbing system with a pump and tubing of varying bore dimensions and varying pressure. The hospital was right in their advice that a DVT is life threatening. Without treatment, the clots could have got bigger and cause an even more serious Pulmonary Embolus. You had a very lucky escape Jerry. Please take very good care of yourself. You will need to stay on anti coagulants for a while but watch out for bruising which could indicate abnormally slow clotting that could be dangerous. You already are aware of need to avoid staying still too long but did not mention increasing fluid intake especially if you will be sweating a lot during hot weather and when cycling Finally, as a fairly heavy user of the UK NHS, I cannot complain too much about my personal care and treatment. Indeed, appointments are sometimes difficult to make and 'gatekeepers' often are very difficult to get round or through. Most reorganistions seem to result in increasing profit based Health Care providers but we still have a system that is more or less Free at point of use 🙏🙏💪

I still remember some of my colleagues who have relatives in China complaining about their relatives having difficulty seeing a doctor some 15 or so years ago and then some years later, they no longer complained. And in the last few years while I travelled to HK to work, I notice more and more HK people actually went over the border for cheaper and faster medical service. I think the for profit motivation that Jerry mentioned and I would also add the wanton unchecked speculation on anything and everything are the wrong models to deliver essential livelihood services. No problem as far as I know, for example, my wife's hukou is in Zhuhai, but she makes all the social security payments in Zhongshan where we live, so she can get treatment here. We had to go back to Zhuhai to marry, in the unlikely event we divorce, it would be there but that won't happen, and for me to get permanent residency, we will need to apply in Zhuhai, so some formal things need doing there, regular day to day life can be done here. More complications arise with children but we don't have any - but that's slowly changing, thank goodness!

Scary to think you had serious DVT from all that sitting while doing work. Take care of yourself. What would we do without “Jerry’s take…”.

@15:00 - you are not using the leg muscles when standing still - the veins use working muscles to get the bloods back to the heart - a vein might erupt like this if standing still for too long ( for people with vein issue ) ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z1S9w9T4NdE.html&si=TP_U04Hxz-f_ejoy

Jerry had an electric bike. They are all over the place in China.

No, that must be a mistake - I cycle an average of 100k a day when on long journeys

I still don't do 100kph, the wording should have been 100k average per day when on long rides

In the main, Chinese hospitals are disgustingly dirty with poorly trained personnel. However, Beijing Family United Hospital is a fantastic private hospital.

I disagree, with the generalization. Hospitals in villages in the middle of know where, are old and need replacing. The focus is on treating the patient not the condition of the floors or walls. But in any large city in China, the hospitals are well equipped with trained doctors that meet the requirements. Beijing Family United Hospital caters to many foreigners and those with money, given its location.

@@raycomeau6866 It's not a generalisation. It's based on visiting dozens of Chinese hospitals as part of my work. Most public hospitals are 'underfunded' due to corruption with senior staff skimming. There are numerous problems with medical staff with fake qualifications. Just do a quick search on Baidu for clarification.

I don't know where you've been to hospital in China or how recent but I've been to hospitals as part of my travels in some very remote regions, including Tibet, Ningxia and Guizhou, rural not city regions, except for Tibet - they were fine, I saw no problems with them at all and remember, I've probably cycled past a thousand rural hospitals in the last 10 years - I disagree with this assessment but would definitely have agreed 15-20 years ago

@@jerrystakeonchina799 No, you perhaps have not been to many Chinese hospitals. The standard of most Chinese hospitals has not improved since the 1980s. It's one reason you won't see our CCP masters there. It's a two tier system. Our masters get the best treatment whilst we are left to have medical care in the dirty slums. Sad, but true.

No wonder my mother who lived in the paradise of Hawaii told me, in her seventies (some 20 years ago), that she was considering moving to China to live. She originated from HK and lived in Hawaii since she retired at 47 years of age. She had US citizenship and paid a small fortune in medical insurance but mainly used TCM anyway. She renewed her HK citizenship quite a while back so that she could travel to HK and China regularly. She has left this mortal earth 15 years ago, and I’m sure that with the advances in China since then, she would not hesitate to made the move now….just wrong timing overlap with her lifespan😏🥹

I agree Angela, it's a big move in her 70s but she's right, the real improvements have come in the last 15 years or so - people say Xi is the instigator but he inherited a very good system to build upon, Hu Jintao doesn't get enough credit for cleaning the country up, or at least setting it on the path that Xi has followed, he also started the massive investments in innovation for tech and sciences for which Xi gets the credit - not taking anything away from Xi at all, I love how he leads this country and what he's achieved under great pressure from the US but Hu was the man who made it possible
