i think they're called sky toms. it's not unncessary. he's just challenging himself, adding toms that are harder to reach. HE'S THAT GOOD!

I love the popping sounds of them Pearls. Great color too, Sea Green Foam. It's the drummer that makes the music, though. Go, Virgil!

Le monster of monsters. And one of the very few who still play clear Ambassadors top and bottom (the Simon Phillips influence, no doubt). Beautiful tom sounds.

Steve Smith and Todd Sucherman too. And I believe Vinnie Colaiuta has done at times as well. Seems like it's a very Berklee thing to do! I have a soft spot for clear single ply on toms, although the Coated Emerors are usually my go-to choice.

I personally really love like him being with Pearl. But somehow, DW drum, kinda represent his sound more accurately...that big, massive sound (even though I'm not a DW fan).

@85Aheadstix I know - I'm having a lot of trouble with my 16" tom at the moment with G2 coated/G1 clear combos. Any suggestions? Having said that, I think that Evans heads are stellar when it comes to higher pitched toms, snares and bass heads. The EMAD is simply magnificent.

AFTER I USED UP BOTH TOP & BOTTOM DRUM HEAD FROM MY FIRST DRUM SET I WENT TO MY LOCAL DRUM SHOP AND ASK THEM I'M LOOKING FOR THE BEST DRUM HEAD I TOLD THEM ALL MY FAVORTE DRUMMERS AND HOW I LO💚ED THEIR SOUND THEY TOLD THEY ALL PLAYED "REMO" HEADS AND I SAID "OK REMO IT IS I'LL TAKE ALL THESE SIZES FOR MY SNARE, TOMS & BASS DRUM" THAT'S BEEN OVER 2O YEARS AGO AND I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK

I myself haven't used Evans heads, but have heard phenomenal sounds from their heads. Here's the thing, a double ply head is a double ply head, likewise with single ply heads, as well as coated and clear heads. We all have reasons for picking the brand that we do, but when it comes down to it, the "differences" are psychological.

Pearl pays well probably I think DW and Yamaha is best for endorsement, perks and service they got more than half of the market Besides Rockers play Pearl and Tama most of the time

@Eleutherarch Mmm yeah i tried those horrible G2 coated pieces of shit and they made my deep toms sound like bongos, just awful, ive got a 10", 12", 13" and 16", im going to try Clear emperors next, Im never going to stary from coated 3 Remo again either for snare, evans has to much "ping" or "ring" for my liking, its a pain in recording!, Remo just has that nice "CRACK!".
