They may not give it to you in Thailand - you may want to check with the Indian Embassy or Consulate in BKK. Better to apply in the US if at all possible.

Drop off, or mailing it doesn't make much different except that mailing it adds the mailing/postage time.

Peace peace! Great info in this video. Thanks for sharing. I am currently in Thailand and have no plans to return to the states anytime soon. I was planning on applying for the 10year visa in Miramar (Burma) in a little over two weeks from now. Also, I don’t know anyone in India to use as a reference. richard wiediger I was only able to get 6 months from The India Embassy in Cambodia. I was told you can only get the 10 years in USA.

Sometimes you can use someone at a hotel as a reference. But yes, the visa is really tough to get outside of the US. But some people tell me they were able to get it overseas. But when I was in Nepal, I was only able to get 5 months.

Hi! I used to be in LA as well. But now I just travel. Not sure about green card holders. It's generally all about your passport. So if as a green card holder you can get a US passport then you should be able to apply for 10 years. But if your passport is from a different country, then you'll likely be bound to those rules. There is an agreement between India and US. If Indian apply for US Tourist visa, its 10 years and vice versa. However, i applied for US visa from Canada, still got for 10 years.

I got my 10 year visa in Taiwan. It's possible, you just need to interview, have a great attitude, winning smile and good reason to be there.

Oh that's great to know!!! I didn't think it was possible. Of course in the US you don't have to interview, you just fill out the forms, but it's great to know that it's actually possible to receive this in some countries outside of the US. Thanks!

If you're applying for a student visa I would reach out to the school for advice and help to ensure you go about the process correctly. Universities deal with this all the time so they will be best at helping you and guiding you through the process. Happy Travels!

What sucks is I live in Las Vegas,Nv and the only closest India Consulate is in San Francisco California. So from what I’m reading I’m gonna have to physically go to one of those consulate it’s gonna have to be in California I think if you live in a state that has the consulate of India within your state your golden if not you are sucking like me lol

If I ship it through UPS or FedEx, do I need to book an appointment? Because in one of the steps, it give you two option, print and book appointment. What should I do?

If you elect to ship your passport and complete the application online and send through the mail, and you send a pre-paid return envelope, then you shouldn't need an appointment unless they need additional information and request it.

How long was your passport valid for when you were granted the 10 year visa? I have like 6-7 more years left on my passport and am assuming that they would only grant the visa for the validity of my passport length!? Is this true? Great video by the way, thanks! :)

I have several years left on my passport. It's not true that your passport must be valid for the entire length of the visa. You can just hold onto your old passport with the visa or later apply to have your visa transferred into your new passport. However, most countries require a minimum of 6 months left on your passport in order to grant a visa. So if you want this one, act quickly :)

Hii please help! I have been trying to apply for an extended visa like you the 10 yr one. One big issue I’ve run into is that I have no embassy close to me. So if I do the application with ckgs website does someone contact you? Or how do you know it’s been approved and is being processed? I’ve tried for weeks to get in contact with someone from the embassy and have had no luck. Also payment? I’ve done the application on the Indian visa online. Gov.in but when I go back in to check it it’s says no application found. So long story short can you tell me more about what contact looks like after you do the app with ckgs?! Thanks in advance!

When I did the application with ckgs, I had to do some forms on their website, but was also redirected to the Indian site and then back to ckgs. It was a bit tricky as the sites have time limits, so it's possible to time-out on the pages. But the process with ckgs is to fill out forms on both sites, and then mail the passport and paperwork with all info/photos on the checklist that they give you. It can be tricky, but it's very do-able. You can try calling the ckgs office as well to see if they have any advice for you.

So I can stay in India for ten years without having to leave. This is Great! I went back in 2013 and my visa was only good for 6 mos and I had to leave. If I already had a visa and went to India do I have to apply for a new visa to now go back again. Probably a dumb question right

Not at all a dumb question. Here's how it works. The visa is valid for 10 years. But you can only stay for 6 months at a time. So if you wanted to stay for 10 years straight, you'd have to pop out of the country every 6 months. But only for like a day. Just leave and come back. But you wouldn't have to apply for a new visa for 10 years. But twice a year you'd have to leave.

Indians also get America tourist visa for 10 years but you cannot Stay for 10 years..! It just means that for 10 years you don't need any new visa for entering again. You can live a maximum of 1 year in one go.

So here's the lowdown on China. US citizens applying from China won't be approved for more than 1 year. I had to negotiate to even apply for 5 years, but they assured me they won't approve it for more than 1. So I'm going to hire an agent in the US to apply for me, hoping to get the 10.

We just don't know that as a fact. It's normal to wait for visas. The point of applying is that the decision is not yours, and you are not entitled to it. The same applies in both directions and sometimes you are even subject to the judgement of an individual who is trying to interpret your application.

My application process took 7 days once it was received, and I picked it up at the office. But that said, I'd plan for more than that so you don't have to rush and in case there are any issues...

Indian visa, as any other visa, ask for a photo taken with specific characteristics, but you do not need to be a professional photographer to take yourself a photo. Just upload it to visafoto.com/in_visa_photo?author=albert and it will be edited to meet all the requirements.

FYI. If you live in the New England Area and have to apply for your visa through the NY Office this video is not accurate for you. As of Aug 2019 you HAVE to apply using www.in.ckgs.us/visa/howtoapply as the Indian Government has outsourced visa to CKGS if you live in this area. I just wasted several hours in figuring this out.

Did you complete the application process? Enter all of your passport info? List your reference in India and finish all of the steps? Also, are you near an embassy or consulate where you can drop it off or would you rather mail it in?

Correct. Once you finish the application, go through the checklist that they give at the end of the application. Make sure you have the paperwork, the copies of your passport, the photo, the pre-paid FedEx return label with your address on it and everything on the list. Once you double check that you have all of the required paperwork, and that there aren't any errors or typos in your application, you can FedEx or UPS it over to them. And make sure to also apply the shipping label from ckgs to the outside of the package. Good luck!

CKGS won't let me process my visa even though i am a US citizen for the past 30 years only because i was born in Pakistan. CKGS tells me to renounce my Pakistani citizenship before i can apply for indian visa...how silly and crazy is that.

@@romanlillie yeah its like if an indian comes to Pakistan to watch a cricket match and Pakistan tells him or her to renounce their indian citizenship before they can visit Pakistan for a week, it would be very silly on the Pakistani part to make such rules yet india can do it. No interest in ever visiting india.
