Aemond isn’t the type of person who is scheming, he is a vicious in your face sort of person. He’d rather kill you with a sword than with a dagger. I like how Daemon knew Aemond would annihilate the STRONG boys in a fight, so daemon had to step in on their behalf.
Aemond encompasses the Targaryen warrior nature like many of his family's successors through the centuries. Expressing his cunning plan by beating you half to death with it.

Aemond took that punch from Jace while still holding his cup and not spilling a drop, his head barely turning, Terminator-style. Little did Jace know that Aemond was really trying to break Jace's fist on his face.
It's ironic that the seemingly 'fake' emotions at the dinner was actually the most authentic we've ever seen them. It was the only time they were NOT putting on their masks. It shows that without the line of succession and primogeniture and all the other royal madness mirroring what existed in medieval Europe, these people could've been really good friends. But the system they lived in destined them to murder each other. It's like being born into rival blocks in southside chicago. You don't have much of a choice. The dinner sequence was so despairing because they all knew it was the last moments of solitude, but at the same time they probably did briefly delude themselves into thinking "maybe, just maybe things will work out". They’re all unwitting participants in a tragic theater that’s about to unfold.
this is nothing like "medieval europe", so is not mirroring it . and it was not the system that "destined" them to murder each other, it is their own choices, especially viserys' choices. and apart from his playing favorites with his children, to the point of murderous disregard for law , it is his belief in his interpretation of prophesy, a probable fake prophecy aimed at destroying targs and their dragons.
You missed it (unless you didn't point it out or saw it in editing as you put the moment in) but Helaena did say something under her breath during the feast just before her toast.

The one thing i noticed about this episode that no one reacting seems to have noticed except you. Alicent is wearing a more severe almost manly outfit. Part of that is the faith. I believe with the hair up, more "proper" dress and necklace with the 7 pointed star, she is aligning herself with the faith of the seven trying to cement her children's place on the throne and their backing for her children. What all seem to miss is this. On the other side you have Viserys in satin with ruffles. Notice Alicent has taken a place on the throne ruling in Viserys's name while he is tied to the bed almost like their situations have swapped. He is the female and she is the male in the relationship now. She has the power now. Just my opinion. Where does power lie? In the truth or the perception of the masses?
Predicting Aemond will do something usurpery is correct in a hilariously unimpressive way. In like one episode the two halves of the cast will all be accusing each other of being usurpers, that’s like the central conceit of the story. So everyone, except I guess Viserys, are about to be usurpers
In the magic color wheel, Aemond has nary a spot of blue in him. He seems like a schemer, but in practice, he's an "all in" gambler that wants a straight fight. The nonsense of the court means nothing to him and he can see through a lot of bullshit. His greatest weakness is also his greatest strength as he makes everything a battle of attrition. The difference now is that he has the biggest dragon and is no stranger to battle. The thing that also important is that he changed frighteningly little in his mentality. The young man is still loyal to a fault and stands by his older brother's claim. This will be VERY important to the story later.
When you guys were talking about Helaeyna, Aegon's wife-sister, right before she made the toast at dinner she whispered " beware the beast beneath the boards..". So yes she made another prophecy at the dinner table. Go Helaeyna! I literally can't wait for her to talk, every episode!💕💕
Helaena has what are called "dragon dreams", which are prophetic in nature. Also she did have two prophetic moments, "beware the beast beneath the boards", of which I've seen three different speculations as to what that could mean. Then when she toasted her nephew's betrothal, she was describing Jacaerys' and Baela's marriage to Baela. The first time she prophesized something onscreen is when Alicent assured Aemon that he would have a dragon someday and Helaena's line was "he'll have to close an eye".
Seems like you're forgetting last episode, when she was capturing the spider at the funeral. She was muttering another prophecy then: _«Hand turns loom; spool of green, spool of black; dragons of flesh weaving dragons of thread.»_
She seems to have more of a prophecy thing where thoughts just pop in her head, the way they are shown and how she tells these prophecies don't seem like dragon dreams or any kind of prophetic dream.

Daemon helping Viserys goes back to what he said in episode one about Otto and the small council that only Daemon would be the only one to look out for him and protect him from everyone. Viserys spoke highly of Otto during that episode to only for Otto to be the disloyal one of the two. Daemon came to make sure Viserys and Corlys succession wishes stay put Otto shoud be doing what the king already commanded but behind his back he’s been doing shady crap.
Allicents dress also makes me think of Sansas’ dress in the later season after she returns to winterfell with Jon. The dress is armour, its tighter in a protective manner and not easily removed. I see it as them just taking back some ownership of their body, since both have had it used against their will or wishes.
The dinner scene was a masterclass of building trepidation through melancholy. Viserys watching the kids in a last dance before the Dance. Fleeting moments of bliss. Everyone hoping for the best, expecting the worst. For something so uneventfully peaceful, the passing was one of the most foreboding & viscerally filmed deaths I've seen. Book Viserys also doses off to the great beyond in his bed, after telling stories to grandkids. The king who was most unlike Aegon the Conqueror in life ends up being most like the Conqueror in death. Ok enough jokes. Now the serious stuff. "You're no son of mine" - Alicent getting crossbowed in the loo on mother's day confirmed lol. Ep 9 is The Green Council😱!! The copium episode!! Cue the Hoes Mad beat😤!! The most surprising thing about the part with Daemon helping Viserys get on the throne and putting the crown on him is that it wasn't even on the script. The idea was for Daemon to honor Viserys at the family dinner. However, during the throne scene, the crown fell off Paddy Considine's head on accident, and Matt Smith decided it was his time to shine. :)
Targaryens do worship the Faith of The Seven, Aegon the Conqueror converted to the Faith to legitimize his reign and all Targaryen monarchs have been annointed in the name of faith since then. It's just that, for some of them? It's more of an obligation than a choice. It's like early roman emperors converting to Christianity. They follow the seven but can't leave out the old valyrian customs - thus, some of them appear to be at odds with the seven. Having said that? They're recent converts to the faith.
I actually love Sam's reactions, one of the few ones out there who isn't just 100% stanning Rhaenyra and Team Black. He has a really nice balanced approach, understanding both sides.

Haelena is the only good one to come from The Greens. She’s just enjoying her bugs and reciting poetic prophecy, but then her mother makes her marry/consummate with her alcoholic, R-word brother? The poor baby. I’m Team Blacks. 🖤🐉 Also, fun fact: The crown falling off Paddy’s head was an accident, and Matt picking it up and crowing Paddy was not part of it. They ran with it, and it worked so well with the episode showing Daemon actually did care about his brother, and respected him.
I am not sure if this is true but i read that the if a king got cut in the iron throne, it symbolizes that the king is weak. So, Visery has been rejected by the throne the whole time except for this particular instance.

There are plenty of other reacters who both or all watch it for the first time together; I don't mind having this one do it differently, it is also a cool way of doing it. It often adds some fun to it with the looks and whatnot.

"Darthgaryen" has never been more fitting than watching Visarys shamble up to the Iron Throne looking exactly like Emperor Palpatine walking with Vader on the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi.
It's funny because they all technically have Velaryon blood lmao Viserys' grandfather Jaehaerys I was son of the conqueror' son Aenys I Targaryen and his wife Alyssa Velaryon, so was his sister-wife Alysanne. Viserys' parents were also brother and sister, Baelon and Alyssa. And Aemma's mother as their sister as well, so Velaryon blood is in Rhaenyra's own veins, and in Lucerys', either way. Even Rhaenys, her mother Jocely Baratheon was Alyssa's daughter with her second husband. So Rhaenys' mother was her grandfather's half-sister, which made her aunt of her own husband and great-aunt of her own daughter LMAO So yeah, Velaryon blood all around in that room.
Daemon in the very first episode told us he would protect his brother. That everyone else around him was using him. Daemon has always put family first. It's not a crown he wants, it's to be wanted and needed. Vaemond, while not wrong, is 100% only in it for his own ambition. If he really only cared about blood, he could have suggested Baela or Rhaena get Driftmark. Plus, with Luke marrying Rhaena, the bloodline continues. As does the name. Only Jace would change his last name when he takes the Iron Throne. So Corlys and Vaemond would be right. Both blood and name would matter. Also, and more importantly, Corlys isn't dead! It's also really shitty of Vaemond to go against his brother's wishes AND to disrespect his wife by basically throwing her off the Driftmark Throne. Vaemond is just as sexist as everyone else when it comes to the Throne. Couldn't let Rhaenys have the throne nor suggest the granddaughters. He was a pretty terrible dude, but great performance!

The words I think best describe Aemond is Deliberate and Calculated. Everything he says every movement seems to have and intended outcome something he is trying to push toward. But I also see the madman behind his eye waiting to come out and gleefully kill everyone. Though thats my impressions now
Daemon saying “why are there all these stars in the Red Keep?”. Is like a real medieval prince saying “why are there all these crosses in the castle?”. It’s literally the symbol of their religion.
It's true that even medieval swords could achieve that feat if sufficiently sharp and swung sufficiently well, but it wouldn't take much of a misjudgment in either sharpness or swing before your blade gets stuck partway through it instead. In contrast, Valyrian steel is said to have numerous qualities which would make it easier, including a higher quality of the metal, imbuement with magic, forging techniques that left the blades sharper than any others, and being highly resistant to dulling. It's like a mix of the best qualities of various different swords we know of historically all mixed into one.
Well technically Rhaenyra and Baela are half Targaryen like Luke and Jace, bur actually 3/4 Targaryen and 1/4 Velaryons because their Grandmother is Targaryen.
