www.thebarbecuelab.com/vision...
In this video, we take a deep dive into the Vision Grills Kamado, particularly the S-Series that can be purchased at Home Depot stores across the United States.
We've been testing this kamado grill for the last 6 months, so we have a great feel for how the unit performs. It's been a fantastic kamado for us, and we're loving the new Thermoplastic side shelves and the upgraded cart and wheels on the S-Series model.
The color that we picked out is the Taupe color, and it's a perfect match for our house. If you haven't used a kamado grill and this is your first time considering a unit like this, then you're in the right place. We cover how to start the grill and dial in a temperature so that you can enjoy cooking with charcoal any night of the week.

So I have the pro S series and it works very well! If you want to smoke on it I would recommend sealing the ash tray with gasket I bought from Amazon.. the turning knobs and the inner squared shape ash tray. Did the trick for me to keep the temp at PRECISE // EXACT TEMPS DESIRED.. for hours

@@Katy809RD To be honest I couldn't tell you what the warranty is, I never had to use it. This thing really is well built, I can't imagine needing to use it. Big Green Egg and Kamodo Joe are good but very expensive. The ones from Menards aren't lined with ceramic and will not retain heat. This one can retain heat even in the coldest Chicago area winters. You wont be disappointed.

I've had my Vision Series S Kamado for three years now and really enjoy using it. The condition of my Kamado is still in good-great condition. I'm looking to replace the side shelves with the new ones but they have been out-of-stock for the past month or so. My lava stone cracked in half but I'm still able to use it. I'll replace this as well soon enough.

I had a lava stone crack about halfway through on a grill, but luckily haven't had one crack all the way through yet. I have a couple of deflector plates for another brand of grill that come in two pieces, so it makes sense that using it cracked still works. Thanks for the comment!

What lump was that? It looks pretty bad. Have you checked out B&b? Also, I personally recommend the aura prozone and 2x 15” half-moon cordierite kiln shelves, as well as a 15” round stone. The half moon stones are your heat deflectors, and used for smoking. Plus, you can use only 1 to create a high heat direct/indirect The 15” stone is your pizza stone. Ive gotten the half moons well past what my infrared thermometer (1100 degree max) Can register, and the 15” round pizza stone at 700+ easy

We didn’t have any warp issues with our ash tray. It is easy to pull out to get ash taken care of, and the seal could be tighter if it latched or had some type of way it attached, but we didn’t have any issues with ours.

I just got one a week ago and have had 3 BBQ meals already. I’ve never used coal before and found it easy to adapt and really enjoy cooking with it. It’s quite easy to light and keep to a specific temperature (say 400F), I found the key is not to overload with too much coal. If it begins to get a little high turn down the air intake and exhaust and open the lid for a few seconds. The grill is very easy to keep clean and move around. The things I’m still getting use to is the smaller cooking area, and not having the ability to instantly change the temperatures like with gas but it’s just a matter of time. Thanks for your review.

I had two of these Vision grills. I just sold one because I bought a Blaze Kamado all aluminum grill. Overall the Vision Kamados are very good grills but some of the things that can be done to make them even better are: 1) The ash drawer could be made of a better material. The bottom of them rust out with time. Make them aluminum. I made one with it. 2) The Electric Starter Pocket could be made of a different material. They also rust out. 3) The gaskets could be made of fiberglass(like the Kamado Joe's) instead of felt. 4) More accessories. 5) The fire box cracks. The design could be change to sectional parts like the Kamado Joes.

have you had many problems with air gaps leakage around the seals , like ash box and electric starter and chimney ? @TheBarbecueLab
@TheBarbecueLab 2 года назад
When compared to my kamado grills that don't have a starter port or a interchangeable ash door, this grill uses a bit more charcoal. It's not so much that I can't control temperature, but like I said in the video review, I wish there was a clasp or some type of fastener to make the quick change unit secure more closely to the ceramic. As long as you make sure it's pushed in all the way, there isn't much air leakage, but on the times where you leave it just a bit away from the grill, it's a problem and it's hard to control. When I use it, I just push in on the starter port and push in on the quick change door before I start it up. If you want a kamado that's completely air tight, look for one with just an air intake slider door and a completely closable exhaust. Less moving parts will let you control air with absolute certainty.

Curious, on the issue of air leakage from the tray...how robust is the tray construction? Do you feel the tray metal is sufficiently constructed or does it feel flimsy and would be prone to warping thus increased leakage over time...just wondering if it is something VG improved from earlier versions....
@TheBarbecueLab
@TheBarbecueLab 3 года назад
It doesn't feel flimsy at all to me. I'd say the tray is well constructed and has held up over time for us. It's not wobbly or anything, it's as firm as the day it arrived. There's a gasket all around the quick exchange system that comes in contact with the grill all the way around the surround, and it's all still making good contact all the way around. The times where i've had any air leakage was my fault as I didn't press the quick exchange drawer in all the way when I dumped the ash. It's just something to be conscious of when you're operating this grill. Push it in all the way or you'll just let more air in than you may intend.

Is there ANY Kamado grill that is the same size as a regular Weber kettle grill? (I believe a Weber grill's grate is 22" but I'm not certain?)
@TheBarbecueLab
@TheBarbecueLab 3 года назад
The standard sizes for Kamado grills are large (17-18”) and extra large 24”ish. The large Big Green Egg and Kamado Joe are both around 18” and the XXL Green Egg and the Big Joe are 24”. Vision makes Kamado grills that fit in between these two sizes, so if you’re looking for exactly 22”, I don’t know who makes that, but I’ve seen that Kamado Joe just released a Kettle Joe that might be what you’re looking for. It seems to be a fusion of the kettle and the kamado.
@jeokagem8002
@jeokagem8002 3 года назад
@@TheBarbecueLab Thank you for that reply. When you say 24", does that mean the exterior of the shell, or the diameter of the GRATE? The reason why I'm interested in that size is because Weber is to grilling like Jeep is to motoring - accessories are available "out the (proverbial) Ying-Yang. I was hoping to take advantage of that with a Kamado(?).

@shanewhittier7438 3 года назад
I'm sorry but this grill has issues that I have been struggling with for about 2 years which I mostly try low and slow cooking.. The huge tray insert is a major problem. The outer plate comes slightly warped and does not fit flush against the kettle, so you have a massive area for leaking air. The electric starter port has a door that also leaks air like crazy. Even the top vent isn't very air tight and after you close it, you see smoke leaking out all around. It was givin to me by my mother so I'm trying to make it work but it's always a struggle to control the temp. Either you close the top vent too much and the fire dies or the heat just runs away, very hard to hold a temp and have a clean fire. The metal plate that's supposed let you insert the electric starter is trash, gets warped by the heat immediately and coals get in there so you cannot put the starter in easily. The lava stone attachment is also trash. The brackets will rust and break after a few months and the stone will Crack as well. The stone could be slightly bigger too

I have one of these, bought years ago. The first time I barely got any heat, the second time I almost burned my house down and completely destroyed the gasket.
