I ran a mobile disco for ten years, 75-85 and played this for years all over the east midlands. It was so popular and everywhere I went, those in the know requested it over and over again, yet....it never made it. Brilliant bit of 80s dance!
Im seeing all of these European comments ... and that's very cool. Just wanted to let you guys know that this was also a huge hit on the Houston alternative club circuit in the late 80's, early 90's too! I've still got my copies on vinyl from back in the day! Great great song!
I never thought in a million years that when I searched for this tune I would actually find it! Was just remembering the 80's with the wife and trying to remember all the South Yorkshire bands. Thanks for posting it!
They were from Stannington, Sheffield. They used to practice in the old band hut in the infant school field. Russ went on to own Twentieth century clothing in Sheffield before he sadly passed away. Amazing band... saw them many times... best show ever was in Hillsborough park, the old Sheffield show, radio Hallam recorded it and later broadcasted it.... Good times :)
OMG!!!! I never thought I would find this song when I typed it in, but here it is. Takes me back to school in Rotherham and Vision being top of the local charts before the charts went national. Thanks so much for putting this on!
It was always a toss up where to go on a Saturday night the Limit club on West St or upstairs in Steelies(Top Rank ) great tunes played at both but always thought Steelies nicked it. First came across Vision at the Gas Light club in Buxton fucking mental place after midnight.
Brilliant!.......I remember seeing them in Rotherham in the 80s when this was out. I took my 12" copy of the single with me and got them to sign it, still have it now.
I was 18 when this came out and I've still got the 12". I really miss those days I wish I could take Us back. This is a Good Version Thank You for posting.
Still have mine too. I'll never part with it. Just sent it to a mate in Perth Australia, reminding him of when we danced to it un a pub in Stapleford Notts. One of the beat dance tunes at that time, immense!
John Betteridge M8 I’m from Long Eaton, Small World eh. I was in Notts Rock City, Zhivago’s The Garage Sometimes DJ Jonathan would switch all the Lazers on for a Track usually Killing Joke 80’s ‘I’m Living in the 80’s Nirvana ripped it off. I ain’t got a turntable anymore. Can You remember The Danse Society?👍🙏
@@brrrainy5477 Very small world! Lived in Bulwell at the time but we were invited over to Stavo by a couple of lasses. Lived on William St Long Eaton for a couple of years in the earl 90's. Enjoyed many a night out there, brilliant takeaways too. DJ Johnathon was brilliant. 'Change' by Killing Joke with the 'lightning' lights going was my favourite. D.A.F Der Mussolini too... Rock City was something else, lighting way ahead of it's time. Love Danse Society...Heaven Is Waiting 12", 2000 light years from home!!! Still have all my vinyl plus 1st Technics Hi Fi I bought at 17 😂 Best days ever, we were so lucky to have lived it. My daughters mate is 80's mad, music cars and clothes. Would go back in time if she could. Went Garage every Tuesday, 50p entry 50p a pint. Rock City Thursdays, 'student night'. Feel sorry for my kids generation as there's no scenes for them to get into, no styles, just boozing and crap music. Keep the memories going mate👍
John Betteridge Thank You for reply John I was blasting Never Mind the Bollocks in the Shower earlier. There’s NEVER been an Album to better it. All the Music and Genre’s Our Generation’s been privy too. I wouldn’t swap places with a 21 year old, not for nothing. The Music was so Fine in the 80’s there was a hierarchy and snobbery to it. A lot of Bands cast aside because of it. Maybe it’s like that each Generation. You Take Care and it’s Good the Young Un likes some of Our Stuff. 👍🙏Xx
I was DJing in Lincolnshire & what was then South Humberside. I don't know which of the Scunthorpe DJs first played this, but after that, any DJ not to have this in his 12 inch box had no credibility. I'd like to claim being the 1st but honestly, it was probably Bunny (Paul Hutchinson or Al Buckley.. 7 inch single was not cool. only 12 inches was acceptable. This was the only track that I would play more than once a night, sometimes the crowd chanted for it.... AMAZING. To DJ and have the honour of pleasing a crowd with a few minutes of music that someone else created is awesome. Thanks for the Vision memories.
Those were the days my friend!!.. the early 80's was such a bottleneck for creativity, fantastic groups, fantastic names, and most important sublime music!! 😁
Sheffield music - as good today as it's always been! I have very fond memories of dancing to this at the school disco. Vision were brilliant and way ahead of their time.
My eyes burn in the darkness Waiting outside your home A life that's truly immortal A lord of the unknown I only go out in the evening Never seeing the sun Draining the blood from my victims To give me the strength to go on Vanishing just as the dawn comes In vaults below the ground Taking life from the humans A circle that goes round and round I'll never strike when expected I'm just a shadow at night My victims' eyes full of horror As they feel the terror and fright My eyes burn in the darkness Waiting outside your home A life that's truly immortal A lord of the unknown I only go out in the evening Never seeing the sun Draining the blood from my victims To give me the strength to go on
Wow i can't believe it first time ever seeing the video to this amazing song, I still own the 12 ince vinel of this and remember playing it over and over while getting ready to go to the New romantic club in Sheffield called Pennies, great memories thanks for this 😊❤
This band came from Rotherham, south yorks, They once played live in the little mister, before it came, the little mister, in North Anston Sheffield I recall.. were very big in Italy, got to no1. 80's forever. LOL.
Wow! Just stumbled onto this. I love when I find New Wave/No Wave I've never heard. It's got that swingy English disco sound that is both playful and raw. Thanks for posting!
The Limit in Sheffield was amazing .Saw OMD there playing live in front of only about 80-100 people before they made it big. They were brilliant. Any Sheffielders out there that remember the Buccaneer in the 70's, another great Sheffield pub that played stuff like Zeppelin, Deep purple etc. Happy Happy Days and gorgeous girls.
Saw plenty of bands at the limit even U2 worst gig ever never liked them from then on. I miss the Limit and throwing myself around the dance floor with the other nutters to pssyche by killing joke happy days ..
Hi all vision fans, saw these guys a few times while at college and visited them at the studio. Lucky enough to have all their material and cleaned it up and put onto disc.
Remember this from years ago and I meet these guys in Virgin summer 1983, think you played The Joint in Milton Keynes if any of you guys are there and remember that :)
I saw them a williams bar in North Anston and at Tiffany's night club in Rotherham, great 80,s band that should have gone on to bigger things.I still have a signed 12" vinyl, sadly no record player to play it on!!
My sister saw them in Williams bar, and I think the Dragon Dinno. I used to go to Tiffs from Anston. Plastic palm trees and chicken in a basket. You could keep a girlfriend for more than 2 minutes in them days.
Damn! I wish I was a teen in England 🏴 during the late ‘70’s / early ‘80’s!!! (Why did Grand Dad have to shove off for Virginia in the late 1600’s???)
as did i ;-) if NO other song brought me to the dance floor cuz i was feeling like a song snob, THIS one always does :-D that synth line is soooo friggin catchy...
@@moogdome2562 , there was a whole crowd of us who visited Scene 2 Rotters on a regular basis (Fri/Sat) from about 80 through to late 82 when I left to go to Sheff Uni. Still visited Rotters occasionally 83-86 but most clubbing in Sheff as Scene 2 Rotters had past its best by 83.
Boy, we must have been there at the same time. I was beaten up by skinheads in Pennys, I was glassed. I went to Rotters too. The longest bar in Europe, the bar girls went around on Rollerskates.I went to Retford Porterhouse, The Dragon Dinnington, and the leadmill. happy days.
@deemcful I'm 45 as well, but don't have the old memories of this song. Living in the US I didn't hear it till about 10 years ago when I was searching for songs I didn't have by the band Lucifer's Friend. Loved it from the first. Most of my friends that heard it got into Vision as well. Great group.
oh yeah. proper futurist tune..in fact is there any better..to be fair, only nowhere girl, b movie comes anywhere close in my eyes..oh ok kraftwerk, we are the robots AND Human league Path of least Resistance..maybe. anyone differ in opinion? sound of the crowd maybe? or a man could get lost-soft cell? WEBBY-notts, lol
Chris Simon Yes well in tooon there Chris, let's not forget early Visage - Tar, Mind of a Toy and of course Fade to Grey. The Cell of course, what about Sex Dwarf and Bedsitter, there's also Japan - god how many times did I see them boys - what an atmospheric sound, especially Khan on bass. And of course, there is always the god of futurist style - the one and only Numan - Are Friends Electric still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Any more tooons you old but still futurist dudes and dudettes - I am thinking a Facebook page coming on.......

They played this live as well as the follow up song Love Dance at Peartree bridge Milton keynes... One of eddie Richards nights ;) Great times ............
Ye I remember.. I also remember the cubicles at the back with the curtains. Chicken in a basket, plastic palm trees, and the band. There was a little couple always dancing. I tried to look cool like Brian Ferry, but go that drunk I'd Trip over girls handbags, while they danced around them.I'd sick in the taxi going back to Dinnington.I remember trying to pluck up courage, and stand on the edge of the dance floor, getting more and more drunk, until I let myself go and spun around the room like a whirling derbyshire. Get home in the early hours, buzzing in my ears, my pockets empty, blinding headache, head and room spinning, then do the same thing the following weekend. What fun. Those were the days. cheers. Pete.
saw them at steeleys in sheffield around the time of its release..later to have gary steadman on guitar....from classix nouveaux.....good tune along with love dance..
seriously top pure synth track. bought it all those years ago and still as fresh. why cant music be this good always?! forget leona lewis haha, THIS is what the kids of today should be exposed to!
What a great flashback! Takes me back to Numbers in Houston and Backstreet in Austin dancing with my best friend Esther. Anyone found a CD release for this song?
East Midlands already mentioned but could not leave our town out - BIG Mansfield anthem played in all the pubs 'Down Town' in the 80's - massive memories of the Horse & Jockey, Eight Bells, Harvey's etc - sadly all gone now.... new generation and new sounds - think we'd all like to go bak to those days eh?
