*Hello you lovely lot! I hope you enjoy this rummage around the Waltham Abbey Yarn Show together :) I hope your January has treated you well and you have a lovely crochet or knitting project on the go whilst you're watching! x* *Ali xx*
Thank you for taking me, an 84year old avid knitter to a fabulous knitting show, I am not able to do this anymore but you young ones are so generous in sharing and inspiring us.❤️
Re the sweater you liked on the Riverknits stand - it is the Kitzbuhel Pullover by Nomad Stitches. As one of the yarns Becci used was Riverknits Chimera (colour changing yarn) - Becci's sweater looks more colourful / less graphic than the original version by the designer.
It was so much fun to go to the yarn show with you! I take of my very elderly mum. She and the late Queen were born in the same year. Since it’s just the two of us, knitting podcast is the best company! I so enjoy seeing new patterns, yarn, techniques and all things fiber arts! Thank you for bring sunshine and joy into our day!!
This video was so brilliant to watch! I love a yarn show and sadly I can only attend one a year so loved “attending” this one with you! Setting a strict budget is certainly a sensible idea when you practically fall in love with everything! Thank you so much Ali xx
Hi, Ally, I'm glad I caught your yarn show video. I had fun on your southern wool show awhile back, and this show was just as fun. How you budget yourself is something to behold lol 😆, I would definitely have to make sure my pickup truck 🛻 was full of gas ⛽️ 😂, so I could get home 🏡 😉, like you channel. GOD BLESS SEE YOU ON THE TUBE.
Fun to see everything you were able to view/film, and such a treat to see your selected purchases- well done! 😁The colorwork mitts are lovely and seem like a very reasonable price (in the US a single ball of J&S two ply costs me the equivalent of 4.60 pound sterling)
Thank you Ali, I just love your travelling yarn show videos! Mind you, I have severe yarny envy by the end! I think you did really well with your spending limit...and it really forces you to be mindful doesn't it?! Good choices to ! Be well!
Brilliant!!! There are no yarn shows anywhere near where I live and I’ve only ever been to one. Congrats on staying on task with your spending goal and yet you still got several lovely goodies!! So fun!! 🧶💕🧶
Oh, that was really lovely! Thank you for taking us along to the show. I wanted to go to a yarn show in Düsseldorf last summer but it was one of these days with temperatures in the high 30ies and I just couldn't. Maybe this year (I'll get lucky...😉)
I really enjoyed your visit to the yarn show. I attended the New England Fiber Festival in November 2022. You did really well to only spend 25 pounds. I don't have that much self control when it comes to yarn.
That was fabulous joining you at the show Ali. Super idea to set yourself a budget and more so to be able to stick with it. Well done super hero. Haven’t been to a wool show for a good while so lovely you have taken us with you x
I was planning on going to WAW but I was ill. Gutted I couldn’t make it. Next year! Next year! 🤞🏼 Your vlog gave me a chance to see what was on offer and I enjoyed it very much. Thanks. Sending love from down the M20, Sam from Ashford xxx
that shawl look so amazing. I bought it of the website. Thank you for showing us around on this trip. Neven been to a yarn festival (we don't have that in my country)
I just love these wool show vlogs you create! My country doesn't have many events like this, especially ones that are this yarncentric so going along with you is a real treat! Glad you had a lovely time!
Wonderful. I'm glad I can shop vicariously through others. Good on you for keeping close to your budget. I need a dpn cosy however I think I'll try to sew it myself or better yet get my daughter to make one for me as she's really into sewing right now.
What a nice video! I live in Canada, we don't have any shows like this. Actually nothing at all, just a lot of sewing ,quilt making. I do quilt, knit and am going to crochet. Thank you again.
I’m a quilter but watch lots of other craft related videos. I saw you admire the panda fabric triangle bag on a stand. The fabric is by Tula Pink. An American fabric designer. If you like her pandas then you’ll enjoy her other fabrics.
It was my first year at WAWS. I went with my husband and the thought of not adding to my stash. But he is a great enabler when it comes to sock yarn. Luckily a lot of colours he liked were in unsuitable yarns. I did see you at the Cait in beag stall but you looked very busy so didn't speak. Also was a bit in awe at seeing you in real life lol! Just realised how much I missed by watching your video even though we went round several times. But as you said it was so busy and just couldn't get near a lot of stalls. I came away with a bit more for the stash plus a few bits for presents for my knitting friends.
Aw! It would have been lovely to say hello Chris! Next time hopefully :) It was so much busier than previous years, great for the vendors! I missed so many stalls though! x
I'm going to the North East one, I'm so excited! It's the first one I'm going to be able to attend. I don't drive and have a small kid so travel is out of the question. It's still going to take me an hour to get there on public transport but I cannot wait! It's about a month after my birthday so I'm asking for yarn money 😅
I think the pattern you questioned is a brick pattern. Instructions We knit this Brick Stitch pattern cast in multiples of 4 stitches for a repeat of 16 rows using 2 yarn colors. but you can use one colour if you wish. Sorry RU-vid will not allow me to send a picture of the pattern, but you will find it I'm sure. Cast On (Color A) in Multiples of 4 Stitches Row 1 RIGHT SIDE (Color A) Knit All Row 2 WRONG SIDE (Color A) Knit All Row 3 (Color B) * K3, Sl1 * Row 4 (Color B) * Sl1, P3 * Row 5 (Color A) Knit All Row 6 (Color A) Knit All Row 7 (Color B) K2, Sl1, * K3, Sl1 *, K1 Row 8 (Color B) P1, * Sl1, P3 *, Sl1, P2 Row 9 (Color A) Knit All Row 10 (Color A) Knit All Row 11 (Color B) K1, Sl1, * K3, Sl1 *, K2 Row 12 (Color B) P2, * Sl1, P3 *, Sl1, P1 Row 13 (Color A) Knit All Row 14 (Color A) Knit All Row 15 (Color B) Sl1, * K3, Sl1 *, K3 Row 16 (Color B) P3, * Sl1, P3 *, Sl1 When you are done with Row 16, repeat pattern with Row 1.
Loved loved loved this. I'm English by birth and I've lived in S Australia for a very long time. I don't remember any lovely yarn shows when we still lived in UK and I haven't come across anything specifically like this in Oz. I'm getting a bit old for the walking now but I'd give it a red hot try - but I'd want to buy everything. Most of the patterns in our local shop are a bit weird, patterns that don't correspond with the yarns or the yarns come from China. Thank you. I've just subscribed. Angela X There are quilting shows and craft shows but nothing that I've seen dedicated to knitting and yarns only.
Greetings Enjoyed your vibes from the video filled with so much information, I know now that there is a wonderful world out there for me to see so inspired this morning. Give Thanks for your time.
Recently subscribed to your podcasts, ( thanks to Becky's recommendation) Thanks for taking us around the show. Your idea of a budget is a great way to support independent dyers after all if everyone stopped buying yarn so they could use up their stash , would there be any sellers left!!!! Looking forward to the next podcast!! 😀😀
Thanks Jacky (and to lovely Becky!) Yes, that's what I thought - I don't want to stop buying and supporting the small businesses, setting a budget means I can still do that but without breaking the bank (and running out of space for yarn 😅)x
What a lovely day out! I'd have bought that Spring Garden yarn. Droooooool. Mind you I have no idea how I'd even choose from such a variety of temptations. Thanks for showing us your day and your purchases!
Thanks for sharing! I've created a stash reduction poster board for my knitting yarn. I now need to create one for my spinning. I will knit, spin and not purchase this year and maybe next year too. I have so much! I only have one Wool Festival planned (Rhinebeck, NY in the United States) with my knitting friends. I have never visited that area of New York State. I am near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Beautiful craft artists at this show. Lovely was the right word. I will watch again though often the shipping costs exceed the item costs over to Canada if they even ship here. But as you mentioned works for inspiration. So many colours and nice things. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful Ali to see all the gorgeous yarns, i enjoyed my trip with you! Well done on your considered purchases! Where can you get a needle cosy for knitting on circular needles? Do they do one? Love Suze. 🥰🧶
As said already, this was a lovely treat! I watched you at the last WA show and enjoyed it so much. You chose well with your purchases. I enjoyed your podcast last night to which had popped up. I wish there was a yarn show down here in Devon this time of year, they all tend to be at the end of the year. When I lived in Surrey I was spoilt for getting to shows lol. I just hope that when I go through your notes I don’t succumb to lots of goodies ! If I do I will set a budget to lol. So thank you for all your brilliant blogs I love them so much. Right then, off to the notes 🧶😱 xx
Another fabulous vlog, thank you Ali! It was lovely to hear mentions of my fabulous friends Eleonora (Coastal Crochet) and Kitey! Two of my favourite yarny people 💜 and great idea for going with a budget. I love that idea!
looks like it was a lovely show. Your WAWS vlog last year was one of the first videos of yours I watched, so please to have gotten to enjoy your lovely chanel for a year now
Hey Ali I just wanted to say I discovered your podcasts late last year and am watching them from the very very start, honestly I have loved every episode so far, is like tuning in to your best mate!! I live in America at the moment but originally from UK and my heart is very much still there. I loved this walk around the show and have to say that when I return you have given me so many businesses I want to visit/buy from🤪 thank you for your channel!! X
What a lovely wool show I’m so jealous we don’t get any here in Guernsey, maybe one year 8 will book and come over to see a couple. Thank you for sharing your fun finds with us. Stay safe love and hugs xx
How fun! I think you did great regarding your budget. My yarn stash also gets out of control so last year I attempted No Buy 2022. I’m happy to say I was successful! I still have lovely makes and actually haven’t purchased any yarn, notions, etc yet in 2023. I have 4 WIPs on currently. I guess I just got used to stash diving! Take care!
I love yarn grazing! Same with book stores and fabric stores. My dream to go into any of those shops and just buy whatever my heart desires. You fill this part of my heart just watching 👀 you. Happy shopping and knitting later. 🤗 from Canada 🇨🇦
This was awesome! 🧶 I’m envious and would love to go to that yarn show, even though I live just up the river from Rhinebeck. I would love to do a yarn festival tour of England.
I am always amazed by all the beautiful yarn that is being created and offered in the UK. AND all the yarn shows, there are so many and I wish I could attend at least a few :) We have some yarn/wool shows coming up here in Germany as well, I am planning on visiting at least the one in Leipzig and hope to get overwhelmed! :) :) Thank you for taking us along, I saw quite a few creators I want to check out. And yes, visiting those shows is such a wonderful fulfilling event, because of all the humming and buzzing and creativity and lovely people!
Hi Ali , I really enjoyed seeing all the stalls run by the most talented people . Loved the burgundy yarn . Really warm and comforting colour . Thanks for sharing your day out x
I would go CRAZY at a show like this! You have so much more going on than we do over here in the US! Shows a few and far between here. Ooow a new show in Newcastle! Might have to plan a trip back home for that one 🤣
That was lovely 😊 thank you I feel as if I live in a yarn desert here as away from main centres and the varieties are soo limited. Well might set a yarn show goal for 2023. 🥰
