The most important thing to know about Minnesota is at any given time, you can get all 4 seasons in a day....

You can die in Minnesota two different ways. In the summer, you can die of heat stroke, and in the winter, you freeze.

@You You Because its simply not true. Its growing and prospering. Thats just obvious and I feel bad for even having to point that out. ONLY bad things for the most part are the cold and high taxes people that have advanced by hard work have to pay to support mostly lazy losers and really not helping them at the end of the day, just crippling their growth. Thats the democratic way.

@@woltersworld As a Minnesotan (I’m sure I can speak for us all) I really appreciate what you’ve said. We take so much pride in our state and I’m not inherently sure why, though I can imagine it’s the nature and kindness. And I would definitely speak to the fact of how welcoming everyone is. I went to Utah, loved it and can’t wait to go again but, I did the standard, “Hey” (or some variation of it) as I walked into a restaurant and everyone looked at me odd. It’s nothing bad on their part, just hit me in the face with culture shock. I’m rambling tho, thank you much man. You’re always welcome

I did and it is clean, but last year I experienced Minnesotan superficial nice and passive aggressiveness at work for the first time and people who live here said it is a big problem here you do not find living in other states. I will be looking for another job my boss tried to stop the behavior but its is a cruel Minnesotan trait not all but many have. Its the Not Us state where all crime for many years is only blamed on out of towners even though people born here in North Minneapolis do commit the crimes.Seeing needles on the train platform is something you do not der on train platforms in Chicago and the downtown here is worse than downtown Chicago. Too many down and out people here.

Don't forget to eat at Sammy's Pizza in Duluth! It's called "Minnesota Nice". It's kind of fun to have a stranger strike up a conversation with you. They're not being nosy, they're just being friendly. The lutefisk is NOT smoked. It's a type of lye fish and if prepared right you will find lines around the block for the stuff. The lakes are some of the most beautiful places in the United States. They stock the lakes with fish. You can throw a piece of corn in a stocked lake and you will have 3 fish fighting for it. The trees and lakes make for an almost magical place. You have the accent correct. It's Minn uh sooo duh, with a long "o" sound. It's the Scandinavian dialect influence. You won't find more blondes in any other place in the world. Don't visit Minnesota in the winter unless you are prepared to visit when it's very cold with strong winds. When I speak of very cold it varies between freezing and -40 degrees (Fahrenheit and Celsius are the same at this temp) and it's that way for months.

Wow. I'm a German living in Texas and everything you just mentioned is what I'm missing so much down here. I hope to live in Minnesota one day because it sounds like that's where home should be. Among likeminded kind people. And god I live for cheese. I feel like even though I've never been I would instantly feel at home in Minnesota. The funny thing is that Rose Nylund got Minnesota on the map for me but it truly seems like a great place in all aspects. One day... I miss smoked mackerel so much. I always used to have tea parties with my grandma and we would have peppermint tea and smoked mackerel yuuuuum

Forget minnesota. Das ist das Land voll der Idioten. Die glouben Heimatliebe is das Statsverrat. (credit Frei/Wild)(Parden my German) Choose Milwaukee instead. The people there are genuine and the food is what we grew up with. You will find a real Germanfest and also a real Oktoberfest there. Trust me. I live in minnesota but will always be a Wisconsinite. So much better in so many ways, there isn't room to describe here. I plan to move back home very very soon (Yahoo!!!!) How can you go wrong where the cities are named Germantown? New Berlin? Unfortunately I still live in Minnesota, aber... Es wird nicht lange dauern, dann binn Ich auch wieder Heim.

I used to live in Minnesota and for the most part everything you say is true. The summers are absolutely beautiful up there and the people are very nice and do keep up their homes well comparatively speaking to other places that I have lived or seen. The healthcare I saw there was better than what I have seen in other places as well. Minnesotans have a very strong work ethic, and for the most part can be more honest

than other cultural areas that I have seen in this country. I found that you are less likely to be taken or cheated by people in Minnesota than other areas that I have seen. They winters are very cold but if you like to cross country ski downhill ski or ice fish it is wonderful there in the winter. I spent many a day cross country skiing out in the woods in Minnesota on a beautiful clear Minnesota morning and miss it dearly. In this summer the weather is beautiful but there is tornado risk at times. If you love to camp and fish or be with nature Minnesota is a wonderful place to be camping is also nice there. The mosquitoes in Minnesota are very bad though and you must wear protection. The only dislike I had from Minnesota when I live there was there are no mountains or ocean‘s nearby .

Mosquitoes suck! It's because of all of our natural lakes and streams, after it rains they just love to attack you. Back when my family used to camp, we tried a new place by a small lake, and we were forced inside by the mosquitoes and mayflies. I absolutely hate mayflies...

#9 is no longer a thing. Sunday sales are legal now. Yes, the winters suck, don't visit until April. The big difference from other cities is snow hardly melts all winter long. Nov snowfalls will be on the ground until March. The reason we deal with it is the state rocks the seasons. Summers are usually mild and comfortable (we barely use AC) and Spring/Fall are practically perfect.

I was raised in Minnesota and left in 1955 after high school and joined the Navy. It is true that the state is beautiful. At least in the summer. I now live in Mississippi and it isn't as nice but it doesn't try to kill me.

Can't say I'm surprised you didn't have North Dakota. Let me give you a run down in case anyone is wondering. Its common to have to pass a combine or other farm machinery while driving on the highways. More than 3 cars on the highway is considered "Heavy traffic". Like Minnesota, it gets cold here in the winter. Not owning a gun is considered abnormal. People are nice here, very nice, probably one of the nicest states in the US. In the west, we have the badlands. Thats about it. You have visited North Dakota: Where it is so flat you can stand on a can and see Colorado.

Wisconsin you can pass a combine in lower 2/3 and a road grader in the northern 1/3. 3 cars in a round in my town is called a parade. We have cold and snow. It's abnormal not to have 3 dogs. Our "midwest nice" is an illusion. And we have badlands, there are called Madison and Milwaukee.

Other things to see in Minnesota: - We are the site of several WW2 prisoner of war camps; however, none of them had fences because where could they go? - Second highest statue in the US is in New Ulm (first is Statue of Liberty) - Warroad has an international bus route for school. - Multiple state parks and national parks! - Internet speed and cell phone reception can be very sparse in rural areas. - You can walk across the Mississippi River near the headwaters of Itasca State Park.

Merri Cat. Perhaps I am dating myself? As a child I spent most summers on the range and, most people I knew used words that I would later get ribbed for at various bases I was stationed at. Back then at least and, with my cousins who never left there, they would use "hey" or "eh" to end a question (asking "right?"). also words like Pop, gong show, runners and "whatcha at?" were used extensively. Of course, most of those I grew up with had migrated from Canada and, I had many relatives in Ontario. But, as for accents, I agree and, do not believe that there is a "distinctive Minnesotan accent" like many think ... I absolutely thought the fake accents in the movie FARGO was HILARIOUS and, I could not believe how many people I've met from the south, and west, actually think minnesotans speak that way.

Really dang cold in other words. Also, #9 has recently changed this year. Still more limited hours on Sundays, but many places are now open. Minnesota accent in short: drawn out "oh"s and words that end in "ag" such as bag and rag, we pronounce with a long a so bayg rayg, flayg.

Well, if you stick to the cities (with the exception of Duluth, not sure what's going on up there politically or otherwise but I think that's most Minnesotans =P) you will find the politics probably isn't much different. Never been to the west coast, so this is under the assumption that most of the areas over there are pretty far left. But the twin cities are also pretty far left. Rural areas, as per most of the country, can certainly go more right though. Even there you do get a few left-wingers here and there even in rural areas. The cities are pretty much the reason our state always goes Democrat in presidential elections for decades.
