Is Minnesota ALL crummy? Maybe not.
Part 1: • Unboxing Minnesota: Wh...
So, the last time we talked about Minnesota, we learned a lot. Like, we learned that A lot of the state is an empty wasteland of farms, much of the northern part of the state is filled with lake cabins and vast forests and there’s some pretty lake homes along lake superior. We also learned about ALL the drama happening in Minneapolis. But there’s a lot more to Minnesota than that. We didn’t talk about some Minnesota history, interesting facts and the issues that people in Minnesota face today.
We also learned the best places to live are along the north shore and in the western Minneapolis suburbs.
So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in Minnesota who are gonna tell us what its like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. It’s time for Cornerhouse Tales: Minnesota. The Hotdish State.

All the people constantly moving here is destroying Minnesota. It's getting worse and worse every single day. It's super sad for me as someone who was born and lived here all my life. I've never felt like I needed to move, but I do now. People who move here from whatever crappy place they left, just turning Minnesota into the crappy place they left. Unless in a rural area, the public schools are terrible and I refuse to send my kids there. The TRAFFIC IS INSANE! Is it LA? No, but our infrastructure cannot handle all the people moving here. Minnesota WAS nice BECAUSE it was "empty wasteland" (even though farm land is literally the opposite of wasteland). The political situation is untenable and extremely divided. Crime keeps getting worse and worse. Minnesota used to be the kind of place where you could leave your doors unlocked while you went on vacation for 2 weeks and never had to worry about sending your kids outside to play. Now, you better get a security system.

Okay but if nobody moves to Minnesota and only moves to neighboring states then you'll get outclassed. Other states wages will get higher, their economies will, boom stronger, more houses and stores built. More people means more production, less people= a desert. There's been plenty of boom and bust towns, keep hating new residents your town will crumble to nothing soon with that attitude. 😊

If you’re not from Minnesota move to the north loop easier to make friends. There is clicks and they have to agree to let other friends into their circle. Find people who are not from Minnesota since they might be having a rough time making friends. This is a huge tip for outsiders lol I married into a click lol also if someone says Minnesota nice it usually means those people are a holes and passive aggressive “stay away from them”. I grew up and lived in Minnesota until my late 30's about 10-15 minutes from the Mall of America. Been away for quite a while now. Was heartbreaking to see all the riots last year, as I know that area of Minneapolis very well. Back then I had a couple of my siblings that lived out in that area, so I'm quite familiar of that part of town. Back then there was crime, but for the most part if you kept to yourself, you were fine. Sounds like it is much different now..

@@genericuser6023 This goes both ways. The mainstream media uses selective reporting to further an agenda about race and police that simply isn't true. I invite you to watch the video, "The Truth About Crime, Race and Policing in America". The video is 100% filled with the actual crime statistics, police killings, and the race of the person killed. Statistics show that, during a police encounter, you are 3-4 times more likely to be killed if you are a white person than a black one. The mainstream media does a false twist on these statistics that compares police killings with the % of each race in the general population (people who are largely not committing crimes). By looking at the statistics of the % of each race killed in police encounters (as you should), you'll see that there is no statistical bias against black people. If anything, there is bias against white people in the statistics.

As a Minnesota native (50 years deep and still counting) most of what he speaks is truth, only disagree with the places to live part of the video. Most of the little cities in Minneapolis are spotty, and have both good and bad sides to them, and for the most part if you keep to yourself, then you have nothing to worry about. The people interviewed on here are going by what has been reported in the news (sensationalism) and never lived the experience to know what the cities is like

Fun fact: Portuguese for Saint Paul is São Paulo so basically Brazil’s cultural and economic epicenter has the same name as Saint Paul except neither of them r similar cities. São Paulo is more like Brazilian NYC while Saint Paul is similar to Hamilton which is in Canada next to Toronto in Ontario (that interesting since I think Minnesota is basically like Canada in America cuz of the people and their friendliness, culture, economics, weather, etc. lol)

Some people take snowmobiling so serious they have multiple sleds for the ever changing snow conditions here! Also, some people even participate in a sport called Water Cross which is racing snowmobiles on water in the summer in drag lines or around in circles. Fun to do and watch if you ever get the chance.

Saint Paul has just as big of a homeless issue as Minneapolis. The uptick is more to deal with construction Nicolett park to help with the super bowl as well as Allianz field in Saint Paul. They uprooted the the homeless population in those two which are huge spots for the homeless so now it's a issue for other places that aren't used to having them around.

Yeah take her advice don't move to northern Minnesota, take it from an Ely resident, can't get much more north Minnesota than where I'm at, pretty much Canada , eh... don't think people are heeding her advice though because properties up here are being sold left and right, too bad most of them are being bought to turn into AirBNBs...so rentals are hard to come by, and that in turn has an effect why no one is taking jobs at gas stations, restaurants and grocery stores because the new residents are probably working from home for more than a gas station employee would make....

My husband and I just watched this. We are both Minnesotans, living in the Twin Cities suburbs most of our lives. We agree with most of this! I think the reason it is going downhill here, (being brutally honest,) is our state welfare system, all the immigrants, and people coming in from other states that hear/learn about it come here to benefit, not to work, and the hard core liberals. They want, "Anything goes," and don't care how much they tax us to get it. It's sad... We're thinking of getting out of this state, soon! Maybe North Carolina, Florida, or Texas? Somewhere along the south/southeast. We're gonna check out your videos on those places, next! Thanks!

Not all, but a lot of the immigrant groups were resettled to unlikely places in the US - like Minnesota - because of church denomination sponsorship with the State Department. The Lutherans were well known for this…they may still be. We were on a Northwest flight from Seoul to Detroit in 1989 that had about 100 SE Asian refugees on their way to church sponsored resettlement in multiple cities including Minneapolis. We knew because they all carried large Manila pouches with their final destinations written on them with sharpie pens. The flight attendants told us about it. At one time, in addition to being able to order low salt, kosher, vegan and other special meals, Northwest had a special “refugee meal” on their list. Most of the refugees looked terrified especially the little kids - I hope they all did well.
@HomieG-fl9wk
@HomieG-fl9wk Год назад
I was one of those refugees from SE Asia in 1980. We were taken in by an American family through Lutheran Social Services's foster family program. I was 8 and my sister was 14. Many Asians know the value of a good education and MN was open to resettlements of war refugees. We knew very little English but became fluent after a couple of years. We studied our way through college and earned degrees which resulted in good paying jobs. Duluthian here.

Hi. Two weeks ago, I took a trip to Minneapolis to see Mall of America and go to a Twin's game. The AirBnb was in St. Paul, but I could get everywhere I needed to go on light rail. I met many people who speak with what I call the "Minnesota brogue," which is a moderately fast pace of speaking with a lot of rounded, stressed o's. The mall was huge and definitely a destination place. It's interesting that they've kept that whole area free of strip centers, Walmart, Costco, fast food and the like. The IHOP across the street from the mall was EXTREMELY busy the Saturday morning I visited the mall.
